any flat spots etc. Power is adequet, only 64hp. Fun on streets and on the twistys. Great bike to learn on, handles great and you wont kill yourself by applying to much throttle. Fuel Injection is excellent compared to carbed models.
Feel, Strength. Brakes dont feel like they have enough power at high speeds. But for most situation they work fine. And contrary to belief, these are powerful enough to do stoppies.
Ducati, handles great and powers out of turns. Easy to flick around corners.
Great bike for beginner, can wheelie by slipping the clutch. Gets lots of attention compared to other bikes that cost even more. But after 1 year, i feel the need for more power.
Ducati Performance Alloy low set pipes.
Power on my SS was not impressive... a quoted total of 64 hp. But, a great town bike, low revving torque meant no issues cutting thru traffic. Hill climbs were still pulse raising events as to keep up / close as possible with the 600 jap bikes it meant open throttle, careful gear use and very high corner speeds. Over taking was still fine, the bike did not feel muted although in 5th things did happen more slowly. In fact it made the bike that much easier to ride... whack open the throttle at any lean on any surface and you'd be just fine, even hum along to the tune the bike played under load? The fuel injection was smooth, and gave the obligatory pop on the down rev around 4 grand. Character, i didnt care less though some apparently whinge about this.
Immense stopping power. 320 mm twin discs, brembo, one finger stoppies and great feel. I loved the braking ability to chirrup the front wheel at will. Power, real power but not at the expense of feel.
Sweet. Sweet sweet sweet. Loose arms, tight knees, push with the feet and around she goes. Change line halfway thru to skirt that tar ripple, no problem. Your arse is a tad higher than expected, it felt like i was falling off the top bunk the first time i tipped in causing a rather embarrasing wobble as i adjusted to the ground ( which seems SO far away ) rushing up at me. This bike could be steered very quickly, in and around other bikes as they lurch and hump around like a bad horse, as the rider is trying to get the power delivery matching the desired turn rate... lose speed and the lack of power will tell on you, but get confident with a rock solid front end and corner speeds will leave bigger bikes behind. But.... watch for the occasional tank slap on rough tar, they are savage and lightning fast to occur. The best handling bike outside a 250 i've ever ridden. Me-proof.
The sound. The glorious rumbling throaty sound. The singing frame that changes pitch as the load on the bike changes. The pop and growl as it runs down. The taught flighty feel of the bike into corners. The sound. The growl of the two pipes. The instant low speed push that threatens to embarrass bigger bikes. The fact its not another jap bike. The low power delivery that forces you to explore the bikes other qualities, leaving the smug overpower straight line R1 riders risking their skin, watching their mirros more than the road trying to catapult away far enough before you out brake and out turn them on the next bend. Take away the fascination for out right speed and power, and you get a bike that makes you learn to ride the frame not the throttle. I love it, I'll get another very soon, perhaps the 900 for a contrast.
Ducati Performance carbon fiber exhaust, K & N air filter with airbox snorkels removed, Plus two teeth on the rear sprocket, Ultimap fuel injection map, Zero Gravity double bubble windscreen, rear fender eliminator
a little underpowered before the performance modifications. The sprocket change and fuel injection map really woke it up. There is a very noticable change in acceleration and now the bike doesn't bog in low rpm's. Much easier to ride in traffic now. There are some occassional hiccups in the fuel injection though (at steady throttle). Overall, it has plenty of power.
The Brembo brakes are very strong, easy to lock up if you aren't careful. Great feel through the steel braided lines. One or two fingers is all that is ever necessary. the rear brake is weak , but helps drastically when you need to stop in a hurry.
The suspension is stiff for me, and i weigh over 200 lbs. The rear shock is fully adjustable, the forks are not -and are very stiff. This does not bother me though, I bought the bike to enjoy and not tour. This bike is rock solid. It handles so precisely, although it takes a good amount of initial turn in, once leaned it wants to lean as much as your skill allows. Great on twisty roads!
A beautiful bike. The steel tubular frame is stnning and houses the exposed air cooled engine for all to see. A great bike to learn on. An unintimidating powerplant that has plenty of power to have fun. I can't wait to get it on a track. I am so glad I got bit by the "Dcati Bug", I have never seen anyone on my model (half fairing, red). 600 cc japanese bikes are faster but you have to spin them up to 10, 000 rpm to get into the powerband. Finally the sound of this bike is unmatched, Ducati's (with pipes fitted) sound awesome.

Staintune 2 into one conti copy
any flat spots etc. Power OK for type of bike. Used to get fouling of plugs, even with super duper plugs.
Feel, Strength Brakes are excellent and well suited to bike weight and power.
Superb once setup. You will need to spend a lot of time adjusting the front end to make it work properly. Change the fork oil to between 2.5 and 5 weight and adjust the spring preload for your body weight etc.
Good bike for the bucks, but if you have an extra $3K buy the 900.
