Carberation

(Everything will be graded 1 to 10) Power and carburetion on the 2000 CBR929RR is very crisp and responsive from stock. Throttle response is the most impressive attribute that the honda has. Twist the throttle all the way around and you'll "FEEL" as if nothing can keep up with you (See the General Comments section to clarify the word "FEEL" in the last sentence ). Grade 8 1/2 out of 10

Brakes

I've riden several bike's in my life and I have to say that Honda has improved there breaking dramatically over the years, but it seems that they still don't have it right. Don't get me wrong the brakes are good, but far from the best. When slightly pressing the brakes on the CBR you'll think you have no brakes at all, and grab a whole hell of allot more than you need. (Easily correctable by simply getting to know the bike). In my opinion Honda needs to take a couple of lessons from the Yamaha R1 team on breaking 101. Grade 7 out of 10

Handling

I can only say absolutly awesome things about the CBR's handling. When you first ride the 929 you'll feel as if you have owned a CBR929RR for years. The handling is very forgiving and it is very easy to read what the front tire is going/wants to do mid corner. I will say that my CBR came with Bridgestones (boo). I changed those immediatly to Dunlop's D207, and all I can say is what a difference tires can make. The Bridgestones were good, but the seating of the tire to the ground is way to low for good cornering. Bridgestones tire are good for wheelies and that's about it. Dunlop's help you drop a better line at the track. Grade 10 out of 10

Comments

(I say the word "FEEL" because you won't be able to beat a R1 from Stock). I will say after putting on some after market components, my CBR929RR pushed out 142 hp. That was what the 929 needed to get a 10 out of 10 in my book. On a serious said if your on the bench and don't know what bike to purchase, I will tell you this. I ride with allot of people and they all have different bikes. This is what I've seen so far from other people's bikes' and different manufacturers. Lets start with the: Yamaha R1 transmition go after 4000 miles the cooling sensor go after 3200 miles. Suzuki GSX-R 750 Second gear go after 800 miles (that's right 800 miles.) Kawaski carbs need to be synced up after 3600 miles. Honda CBR929RR I toke it in for two recalls 1.) for the clutch basket 2.) extended fuel hose. But my honda has never let me down, even after some pretty cruel abuse at the track. I hope this helps to make your decision easier.

List the modifications on this bike FACTORY STOCK

Carberation

GOOD POWER FROM STANDING START TAKEOFF. EXCELLANT ROLL-ON POWER FROM AROUND 30-40 MPH. PLENTY OF POWER FOR ROLL-ON WHEELIES. THE BIKE PULLS HARD IN ALL GEARS. I REALLY ENJOY NOT HAVING TO PULL A CHOKE IN THE MORNING.

Brakes

WOW! WHAT A SET OF BRAKES. THESE STOPPERS CAN THROW YOU RIGHT OFF THE FRONT OF THE BIKE IF YOUR NOT CAREFULL. WITH BRAKES THIS GOOD I'M SURPRISED HONDA DIDN'T ADD AN OPTIONAL SEATBELT.

Handling

I CAN THROW THIS BIKE AROUND LIKE MY 400EX. THIS BIKE IS LIGHT AND THE HANDLING IS GREAT. LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO AND THE BIKE TAKES YOU THEIR. SHARP CURVES ARE A BREEZE WITH THE 929.

Comments

THIS BIKE IS SUCH A JOY TO RIDE. I HONESTLY HAVE TO SAY ITS THE BEST BIKE I'VE EVER OWNED. 400EX --- 375LBS. --- 29HP = FUN. 929RR --- 75LBS. --- 130HP = DAMN. I RODE THE 929 OVER 400 MILES IN THE FIRST WEEKEND OF OWNING IT AND WASN'T EVEN TIRED. MY WIFE SAID IT WAS A SMOOTHER RIDE ON THE BACK THAN MY CRUISER. GUESS WHAT? I'M 42 AND LOVING EVERY MILE OF IT. BUY ONE TODAY, YOU WON'T BE SORRY.

Carberation

any flat spots etc.pulls real well, the end can sorts out a smooth delivery. No problems with the bike.

Brakes

Feel, Strength good feel on the brakes but tended to fade on a real thrash, a good set on braided hoses has sorted that out, easy to stand on its nose!!!

Handling

i had a wobble under extreme acceleration but it was sorted by new fork oil and the caps being fitted correctly. once the front and back were matched by a mate who races it was awesome and still is

Comments

good finish as always by honda, headturning paintjob (and leathers now) good all round bike for scratching or even touring around fully loaded two up. good tank range lousy insurance group !!!! still you cant have it all. this is my third one and i luv em

Handling

this bike is very light and you can put it where you want it honda has really progressed over the years with their sport bikes

Carberation

I loved all the work the Honda Engineering team had put into the 929, even though the magazines will not admit that the 929 is a solid bike.

Brakes

The braking power and smoothness is very impressive, compared to the older RR's and the newer R1's and GSXR-1000's, even though the magazines will not admit to it.

Handling

The handling? What can I say, if you put wings on it will would have a F-16 Fighting Falcon. The 929 is a very agile bike, hey and I am comparing it to the 600's.

Comments

I give the bike a 10 out of 10 for the year 2000 and a 9 out of 10 for the year 2001, because the GSXR-1000 had way to many ponies over the 929, but we aren't racing here. By the way today is Feb. 10, 2002 and my partners brother has the new 954 RR and I think we have rewritten history just like we done 92-98 and the year 2000. YOU GOT TO LOVE IT!!!

List the modifications on this bike Micron Serpent exhaust w/carbon fibre can this is goodd for 142+hp

Carberation

any flat spots etc. well, with the Serpent the power is nothing to brag about below 4000 but with the stock htev in place the bike has 0 flat spots and pulls strong from bottom to rev limiter ... very quick throttle responce

Brakes

Feel, Strength the brakes are ferociously strong but need too much lever to bite hard even with the brake lever cam set on 0. Some steel braided lines should fix this. It has the largest rotors on any bike you can buy at 330mm!

Handling

There is nothing else I can compare to the 929 in handling. Quite simply the 929 is the lightest feeling, quickest turning, most flickable bike you will find, and yes I am including 600's.

Comments

Great bike. Doesnt havethe midrange of the R1 but has a more powerfull upper rpm pull 8k and up.

Erion Racing full-system exhaust. Power Commander III. Smoke Speed Screen. Fender Eliminator. White Frame Protectors.

Carberation

Smooth from the very beginning of the tach. From 5 grand up to 8 grand is the meat of the beast. Very powerful. I like to save the very high RPMs for the track. She's very easy to do wheelies I might add.

Brakes

Probably the best stock brakes out, with the execption of the CBR954RR.

Handling

When Honda claimed that their named meant performance they had the 929RR in mind. She makes me a better cornerer( is that a word?) Can't believe how nimble and this is coming from a person who traded his CBR600 F4 for this bike.

Comments

All those people who were upset like I was when the GSX-R1000 came out don't worry. And those who were upset that they had just bought a 929RR and now they make a 954RR don't worry either. It isn't that much of a difference. And if your still upset...word is that in 2004 Honda will unveil a 1060cc Fireblade. Then you can give up on the 929.

List the modifications on this bike Only a D and D exhaust and Stage II jet kit Dunlop 207 tires

Carberation

EXCELLENT POWER thru entire RPM range Great cornering decelleration and drive out of corners

Brakes

Brakes work best when suspension setup for riders weight. I am 205 with leathers and the stock settings had me bottoming outint hard decelleration. But with a few quick adjustments I had the front feedback perfect.

Handling

The adition of Dunlop 207 tires and setting the suspension up right has the 900RR feeling like your on a track even on the back roads.

Comments

The 1998 900RR is much more user friendly than the earlier models Ive owned and ridden. Like any big bore it takes a little getting used to so as not to look like a GI Joe doll getting thrown thru the air when it rares up and spits you off (maximum wrist control here!!) GREAT BIKE!!

Bolt on: Erion Racing exhaust. Scotts steering Damper. At only 160 lbs, the Stock HP is plenty enough for me.

Carberation

The throttle response is very sharp. This bike pulls at the slightest turn of the throttle. Awesome low end pull, OK midrange which works great in cornering, and awesome top end. I am considering putting a power commander but I was told by Erion Racing, that the bolt on exhaust mapping is very similar to the stock mapping. Erion mentioned that PCommnaders offers a slight difference from the stock mapping with slightly better throttle response and fuel efficiency, and is only recommended for full exhaust. I would appreciate hearing from others who has more information on Power Commanders w/ Erion Bolt On.

Brakes

At only 160 lbs. this bikes is waiting for me to make a mistake before throwing me over the bars. The bike will stop on the dime. Absolutely no complaints on the brakes.

Handling

Handling is awesome for your everyday street. A little soft for the track but the adjustment for stiffer track suspension is an easy process. Can be done in minutes with simple screwdriver when racing on a track. First for me to ride on Michelon Pilots, and the feel is very assuring.

Comments

Out of all the open class superbikes: (RI, GSXR1000, ZX9, CBR929RR), I choose the CBR929RR because it has the best compensation between street and track. Just like 99% of all motorcyclists, most of the riding is done on the street; so why not buy a bike that is made for both road conditions. This bike feels truly the lightest I have ever ridden. Even lighter than most middle class bikes. Highly recommended for Open class riders

Brakes

Feel, Strength The raer breaks are not so good because the feel like they are not there when used lightly, but the front which to me are the most important of the two work ok for a bike of it's time. Therefore I upgraded the brake lines and pads correcting the problem

Handling

Handles wonderful, I've never had a problem cornering at high speeds. I live in the Poconos with tons of mountain curves, I couldn't have picked a better bike

Carberation

There is no question about power. I previously owned a 2000 R6 and then moved on up. The 929 delivers power in all the right places. There is nothing you cant do with it. Pumping out around 150 hp is all you need. The response is there. It has all the power you need. The perfect 900!

Brakes

Brakes are not bad at all for the weight of the bike. Like said I had an R6 and the lighter bike obviouslyl stops a little easier but for the size and weight of the 929 stock brakes are a 8 out of 10. I wouldnt mind throwing on a set of after markets brakes though. ( personal prefernce )

Handling

Handling on the 929 is increditable. With the Michelin Pilot 190 on the rear the bike handles like a porche even with the bigger size and weight. It does take a little to get used to coming from a smaller bike but when you finally feel the bike you feel unstopable.

Comments

I would refer this bike to anyone who is looking to uprgrade from a smaller bike if your looking for power (alot of it) and size. I wouldnt even go buy the new gsxrs or r1s even if you paid me to do it. Lets face it Honda has put out the best 900 to match any bike for years.

Awesome overall, A slight flat spot at low RPM but very easily corrected after getting familiar with your ride. Overall thumbs up. Honda did good with the fuel injection.

Brakes

No complaints on the whole. Everybike is different after a few thousand miles of riding. The key to brakes will always be fresh fluid and new pads. Honda has come along way improving the stoping ability.

Handling

What can I say, the bike is a dream. It almost makes it to easy. The stock shoes were OK. But, after replacing them the bike is that much better. I definately recommend this change.

Comments

This is my third bike and my biggest. Some how it just doesn't feel this way though. Thumbs up all the way. One small detail, the bar height can definatley put some wear on your wrists. Just like vibration in the foot pegs can do to your feet. Overall awesome.

When you turn the key to the ignition...bam ! You absolutely feel the power thats available to you by the twist of the throttle. The throttle has an incredible responsive system available to the rider as I experienced going at 170 mph and then...felt like the 929RR response to me was..."ok I still have a little more left".

Brakes

I've read some reports on the braking system being not as responsive because the rider would need to squeeze level a little harder. While this might be true, I believe the braking responds relatively well for this particular bike. When braking quickly at several exits, I had no problem slowing down and being able to manage her out of the turn and exit.

Handling

Well...I absolutely concur like many other 929 riders, "Simply Awesome". Although its a 929, it handles as though it was a 600 when putting it through twists, turns, cornering and of course the straight aways !!

Comments

Anyone looking into purchasing a machine, should consider the 929RR as a definite contender. As you've read in my comments, the 929RR brings to you the versatility and over all performance of a great sportsbike of its class. I welcome any feedback from other riders regarding improving performance improvements at the above email address. Thanks..peace and ride...safe.

List the modifications on this bike complete suspension set up with gold valves, braided lines, full hindle race exhaust, power comander 3, steering dampner, race kit and crash protectors.

Carberation

any flat spots etc. little rough and switchy below 2500 but strong and agressive and easily caught out by one wheel action to redline

Brakes

Feel, Strength more than enough for the road as for the track dont know it is a honda

Handling

easily the best handling bike ive owned yet its very comparable with a gixxer 750 , comparing any sportsbike these days with sports tourers is like comparing trucks to cars, light years ahead

Comments

super reliable, looks great can hold its own against anything on the road better than any 750 as it has the same handling but that important power and torque advantage plus once again its a honda. gearbox is probably a bit long and notchy 1st to 2nd

FOR ONLY 150 POUNDS THE BIKE STOPS US BOTH LIKE A CORVETTE. ANYONE WHO DOES NOT HAVE THE BRAKE LINES GET EM' ITS WORTH IT NOT ANY SLIPS OR LOCKING.

Handling

LIKE A 600RR OR ANY R6 IT EASILY LETS YOU DROP A KNEE AND BLOWS BY MOST IN THE STRAIGHT AWAYS.

Comments

HOW DO YOU COMPARE PREFECTION??? WILL NEVER NEED TO UPGRADE OR I PERSONALLY WILL NEVER SWITCH AWAY FROM HONDA EVEN THE NEW ZX10 AND RAVEN R1'S. BELIEVE ME

Mods

Mods ok well first new pearl white paint w/tapeworks stickers floru. red + black also Everything chrome and frame-swingarm polished, rims powdercoated white, rear foxshok, front ractech springs, steeringdampener, new seats, and for power haedwork, cams, 39racecarbs, full carbon D+D, K&N of course, undercut trans, 919motor, and lowered front extension on swingarm 7"back, lowered in rear. now its a street-drag bike. approx140hp

Carberation

Any flat spots etc.POWER WITH RACE CARBS AND WITH WORKED MOTOR IS INSANE!!!!!!!!!! With the back lowered and longer it doesnt do wheelies anymore so power to ground launch is AWESOME. For those who have PIPE JETKIT 900's and want more power look into 39flatsides nice 10-15gain. For under $1300.

Brakes

Feel, Strength- brakes were great when bike was stock now its getting old and her brakes stink even though i have new calibers and disks.

Handling

handles great for a heavy bike. i say heavy cause my other ride is a 954 which rides on rails. now it handles like a tank with very wide turns.

Comments

overall honda made the 900 perfect and this 93 900RR will be with me forever. ive had this bike for 12yrs and still going strong. hondas motors are tough to beat! oh and i want to mention to Chris Bowmam how in the hell do u get 147hp from a stock 900 with a full pipe, jet kit3, and filters? my first motor before i blew it up do 90mph. i had it bored out to 919 with cosworths pistons, heads, cams, racecarbs and my full D+D. MY BIKE DYNOED ON A 80DEGREE DAY AT 147HP AND 80LBFT SO ON A COOLER DAY IT WOULD BE AROUND 150HP. wtf anyway peace to all and everyone be safe!
