Carberation

Power delivery is strong smooth through the entire RPM range. The low-end torque is good, and the bike will easily lift the front wheel (I am 5'7 and 135 pounds) when starting out in first with only a 3/4 throttle hit and nothing more. It also pulls hard out of corners. At low speeds the throttle can be more like an on/off switch. Even just adjusting your grip on the throttle can cause the throttle to "blip" and the bike to jump at low speed, but at speed it is just crisp and precise.

Brakes

Brake feel is good, and stopping power is excellent, with one or two fingers being all that is needed for most stops or for slowing down.

Handling

The 954 handles like it is on a rail. The turn-in is so light that you have to ride it to believe it. It keeps it's composure over bumps even when laid well over, and mid-turn corrections don't upset the suspension.

Comments

I also have a '01 VFR, and my initial main concern was whether or not I could take day-long rides on the 954. I managed one ride so far of about 425 miles over 8 hours, and I was impressed with the overall comfort. The seat is a little hard, but otherwise no complaints. It is a bike I can ride all day long. I wish the tank was a little larger, as it seems I am always buying gas. Overall, like the VFR, I think the 954 is the best bike of its class.

Carberation

stock fuel injection is better than the modified map provided by Dynojet for the PC111r. Under 6000 rpm the engine is docile and soft after that it picks up predictably but not overwhelmingly so.

Brakes

Brakes could not be better. Feel, power is exceptional.

Handling

Handles extremely well, but is sensitive to weight distribution. A skilled rider will be very well rewarded. A novice rider will learn how to ride properly because of the forgiving way that this bike rewards correct input.

Comments

Overalla very well balanced machine that does everything extremely well. All it needs is more torque in the lower rpms where most street riders spend their time.

Erion black bolt-on

Carberation

Decreased low end lag versus 929RR, very smooth throttle response, and a very sweet powerband in the mid/high range.

Brakes

Very predictable braking, while staying smooth and stable.

Handling

This bike handles like a dream! I feel much more comfortable on this vs. my F4I while going through the turns. It also handles cross winds much better than the F4i I previously had (2001). I weight 135 and a big cross wind would send the F4i across the lane if I was not constantly correcting it. This bike needs less than 1/2 the corrections in crosswinds. (gotta love chicago weather)

Comments

This bike is light, powerful, smooth, looks great, and handles great. I was able to keep just behind a 2001 busa in a street drag. This is the bike of 2002!

List the modifications on this bike Scotts Damper, Zero Gravity Dark Smoke DB, Intuitive Frame Sliders, Only the Clear coat Sticker. Coming in the next week or so a Corbin Pilot Saddle and a Competition Werkes Fender Eliminator Kit.

Carberation

The bike can be a little flickable at times, but it is easy to keep it under control. Once into the power it revs very smooth and even.

Brakes

The 330mm front brakes make the 954 almost effortless to bring to a stop. Although I did have a few small tank slappers while under extremely hard breaking, that were cured by the Scotts.

Handling

The single attached swing arm takes a little bit to get used to. Going into a corner if you don't compress the rear shock the bike can get a little squirrelly

Comments

Over all the bike is very fun to ride. I hate the seat. Still I was able to ride from Columbus to Detroit and back with out to major discomforts.

Stock production bike.

Carberation

The Fuel Injection is very precise as is throttle response, however I did adjust the throttle free play in order to avoid the on/off throttle tendency although it wasnt as severe as I heard. I enjoy the fact that it is so responsive without being uncontrolled. Power delivery is strong and extremely smooth through the entire rev range. Was able to pop power wheelies in the first three gears. The power in this bike is amazing (GSX who?).

Brakes

Braking is the best in the business. Huge 330mm rotors handle the job superbly. Brake feel and stopping power is excellent. You wont ever need more than 2 fingers to slow down or stop this machine.

Handling

This bike handles like a dream. Think where you want to go and youre there. Change your line or brake in mid-turn? No problem. Excellent feedback and never feels as if you are forcing the bike to do something it doesnt want to do. This bike was made for twisties.

Comments

Practically everything on this bike is user adjustable so you can taylor the bike to your particular ergonomics and taste. This bike is very light, has more power than I know what to do with, is smooth, has great looks, handles like a dream and is a definite chick magnet. A very well balanced and fun piece of craftsmanship. Best decision I ever made.

Carburation is spot on most of the time but small throttle openings can hit quickly..best to keep alert..otherwise, this bike rushes forward with extreme velocity..megapower.

Brakes

Like everyone else..these are the best brakes I have ever experienced..Whoa baby!!

Handling

Handling is absolutely phenomenol..I mean she just goes where you want her to go..gotta pay attention if speed is your need but the 954 stays planted and sure all the time,everytime..what a hoot! Just tinker a little with suspension settings to get your feel..It's all there.

Comments

Carberation

The bike has amazing throttle reponse any any revs you are riding in. The 954 has this advantage over the 929 with its extra midrange power. However, twitch your right hand and the bike will not forgive you.

Brakes

For street riding, no modification will ever be needed to the breaks. At low speed the rear brake is all thats needed if you dont want to lose your manhood.

Handling

After testriding R1's and GSXR1000's its clear to see that listening to bike mag reviews is a waste of time. You need to ride this bike for yourself and make up your own mind. The bike handles so well, it almost feels that you are a passenger on it as it needs no effort whatsoever to corner. The bike is so flickable and reponsive it sometimes goes lower than you expect it to.

Comments

You may read spec sheets on this bike and the others in the class. But you really need to ride one. My mates bragging about his GSXR1000 having more power, but its about usable power, something the blade excells at over the Suzuki. Lets not forget its restircted to 150bhp anyway by a cone in the exhaust pipe. Should happily pust 165bhp with this taken out. This I plan to do to mine soon, which should be quite interesting. Make your own view on this bike but I am so glad I chose this over any other. It is simple the best superbike you can ride!

Carberation

Before pipes, the fuel injection was nearly perfect. After the pipes its a little slugish in the low RPM's, but from about 6000 on up U better hold on. Feels life you hit a NOS button.

Brakes

The brakes are everything you will ever need. Never use more than two fingers though, unless you love Endos.

Handling

This bike handles better than any other in its class, with the R1 a little behind and the GSXR a little further back. This bike gives the 600 a run for their money in the twisties, but when the straight away comes, see ya.

Comments

Out of all the people I regularly ride with I am the only 954 rider. They mostly ride GSXR 1000's and R1's. When it comes to riding in the curves they think im just the best rider ever, I will never tell them that its the bike not me. If you want to be the best buy a 954.

Scotts steering dampener, frame sliders, licence plate bracket, gearing-1 down in front 2 up in the rear, tank protector,

Carberation

Power delivery is very smooth on the top. Just a tad snatchy down low, that soundslike a bad thng but once your used to it you will love it. When I changed my gearing it made power up wheeies a total breeze but it does come up hella fast.

Brakes

Brakes are PERFECT. I hve ridden bikes with AP brakes and Brembo, in my opinion these are better. This bike is the ultimate stoppie machine. I would say unless your bike lives on the track, if you change your brakes on this bike you need serious mental help.

Handling

Super user friendly. Mid-corner corrections are s easy you feel a fraud. I put a steering dapener on mine but truth be known it is ten times more useful when setting down wheelies rather than helping in the twisties. The only "problem" that really needs to be addressed is the stock rear preload setting is a bit weak. I adjusted mine 2 clicks stiffer preload on the rear shock. That keeps the arse end from squatting in a fast corner.

Comments

I like this bike better than any other liter bike. It has strong drive all through the RPM range, it is scary fast (the way I like it), smooth power curve, light as a two wheeled feather, compact and comfy, looks to kill, and hey it's a Honda so you know the build quality is F ing great. I think the R1 still looks sexier but I would still take this over anything else on 2 wheels.

Carberation

Bellow 3000 its pretty flat, but hey its not a v-twin. Anywhere after 5000 and your good. My biggest disapointment in the power is second gear. My bike wants to go into a violent head shake before it will pick the wheel up. 1st comes up anytime, anywhere. It should be as easy in second maybe third as well.

Brakes

Braking is good, maybe great. 4 out of 5.

Handling

Handeling is outstanding. No matter the curve the bike will do it. You just have to figure out how big your balls are. Ive ridden with r1's, GSXR 1000, no one should be hanging with you on turns.

Comments

I love the handeling. I think someone should be able to do something to cushion the seat. Other than that I think the only thing I would ask for is a lower gear for 2 and 3. I will probably end up putting 2 teeth on the rear.

Jardine Polished Aluminum Slip on.

Carberation

The fuel injected power is crisp. At low speeds the throttle is more like a light switch, on or off. This can be annoying at low speeds when hitting a bump can cause you to blip the throttle and lurch the bike. At speed the throttle is crisp and precise. To raise the front wheel just roll on the throttle in first up to 5 grand and goose the throttle. No need to blip the throttle or bounce the front end up. It will power up on it's own. With a quality slip on you will meet or exceed the 150hp mark.

Brakes

Honestly I'm not impressed with the brakes. Perhaps the bike I have needs new pads. I bought it off a gentleman with 4000 miles on it already. The brakes seem to fade under hard braking. The back brakes are strong but when your front brakes feel like mush, who cares about the rear? I've owned many Hondas and they've all stopped on a dime, so maybe a new set of pads and some steel braided lines will slow this pony down.

Handling

The bike handles flawlessly. The lean in is very easy. The bike is very refined and almost possesses "speed of thought" handling. If you think you wanna be somewhere on the road, you're already there. Very little rider imput or body english is needed to tip this bike through the turns.

Comments

Overall I think this is a great bike. For me it's the best I can do right now because I'm so brand loyal to Honda. I wish I could put a Honda Sticker on the tank of a GSXR 1000, but... until Honda comes out with their CBR 1000RR in 2004 this will be my ride.

Carberation

This Bike Has Great Throttle Resposne Throughout The RPM Range. Power tends to be a little hesistant below 3000 rpm but How often are you below that range except when coming from a stop. This can be easily overcome by an experianced clutch finger. Honda has as usual Fine-tuned it's PGM-FI (Programmed fuel Injection) To ever-so-precisely match changing conditions. I find Kawasaki, Yamaha, and especially Suzuki FI to be extremely choppy and unforgiving. This bike will come up very quickly in first and second gear if proper care isn't given to throttle operation

Brakes

Braking is as usual unparralelled On this Honda. Only the slightest "two fingered" pressure is required to bring this bike to a fast stop. The brakes while feeling very powerful aren't "grabby" and are very forgiving and would likely be very forgiving to a "less experianced" rider

Handling

I previously owned an 'O2 F4i. I'd be inclined not to believe that Honda could take an open class bike, Give it a 370lb 600 class dry weight, Make it over 40 horsepower stronger than the F4i, and make it handle better the the F4i (which is by the way until now the nimblest bike I'd had the pleasure of riding. But somehow they managed it "Flickable" is the best word I've hear used to describe the handling characteristics of this bike. It would be very forgiving again in the hands or a less-than-experianced rider. You feel very reassured pulling hard on the throttle during cornering (not too hard though or it'll lift quick) I easily worn every evidence of "chicken strip" off my 190 rear tire in less than 500 miles.

Mods

D&D Carbon Slip-on, Galfer stainless lines front and rear, Scotts steering Damper, flush mounts, custom fender eliminator, mirrored windscreen

Carberation

The power is phenomenal, clutchless wheelies in 2nd, the power to weight ratio is wicked (only 370lbs dry) The D&D is stupid loud on this bike.

Brakes

Personally feel this bike has the best brakes of anything out there. Huge rotors cool quick for stoppie after stoppie.

Handling

Light in the front, hoping to correct the odd head shake with my new damper (haven't ridden it yet with damper on)But she does love to tuck into the corners, super light and easy to throw around.

Comments

The 954 has the same weight and wheelbase as the 600rr but a ton more power. And when the air cools at the end of the day, it goes from being all the bike a guy would ever need to a slap a shit-eatin' grin on you face monster...God I love it!

Mods

Arrow Slip on Exhaust, Arrow Steering Damper , DB screen, Pirelli Diablo Tyres.

Carberation

only that it's very flat below 3000, then it goes, think this will only be a problem in the wet. Overtaking is superb and the engine delivers controlled power on very twisty B roads and fast sweeping A roads.

Brakes

Feel, Strength 10/10

Handling

Well i can only say that this bike was a tank slapping bitch on bumpy B roads, trying to keep with a 1000rr4 out of the bends and it shakes and slaps all over the place, fitted the Arrow Steering Damper and Pirelli Diablo's, you can just keep it nailed, and do anything you like and it's rock solid, everywhere, cranked over, crests, bumps, stunning.

Comments

A totally great bike, and now the handling is sorted also one of the quickest on the road, real roads not just your fav. 20 miles that you know every bump and camber on.

Mods

scotts steering damper, full Hindel exhaust system and upgrade of the suspension

Carberation

the blade is very touchy through the low and high ranges, which is a good thing cause power is available all the time. coming out of corners is a dream compared to other bikes I have riden. It feels like the bike just keeps climbing. I think a full exhaust system definitely helps the cause as well,

Brakes

braking is a dream. most of the time only 1 finger is needed to activate the front brakes.

Handling

for the power that this bike has it should be heavier then what it is. but its so lite that it tips into corners, feel almost like a 600. And with the inclusion of the steering damper there is more stability in the front end.

Comments

overall this is a well balanced bike. for the amount of power that the blade has, it has great handling to match it. Main problems that I have with it, is that the fuel tank is small, also the fairings are a nightmare to get off, but apart from those problems, it's a great bike.

FULL HINDLE, K&N AND PCIIIR, LOW BEAM HELLA HID, HIGH BEAMS ARE YELLOW, ALL DIRECTIONALS ARE LED, FASTAG LICENSE PLATE, CHROME SHIELD AND FRAME SLIDERS AND A SCOTTS STEERING DAMPENER AND A SHORT 2 FINGER CRG BRAKE LEVER.

Carberation

any flat spots etc. FLAT SPOT ONLY CAUSE I HAVE A POWERCOMMANDER IT AT THE BOTTOM BUT ONCE ROLLING ITS INSANE. MID AND TOP IS CRAZY. I HAVE 143HP AT 73FT. ROLL ON WHEELIES ARE SIMPLE BUT TAKE CAUTION AT HIGH SPEEDS OVER 100MPH FRONT WHEEL TENDS TO RISE.

Brakes

Feel, Strength WELL AT 15,000MILES AND STILL STOCK BRAKEPADS IT STOPS GREAT. NO PROBLEMS HERE

Handling

WELL LIKE I SEE OTHER POEPLE WRITING THIS BIKE DOES RIDE ON RAILS. I HAVE A 93 900RR WITH 140HP AND A HEAVIER RIDE AND DOESNT COMPARE TO THE 954. THIS BIKE IS LIGHT AND FAST. HANDLING THE WHEELIES ARE SO AWESOME..

Comments

ITS A WONDERFUL BIKE TO HAVE AND A GREAT ALL AROUND BIKE. GREAT HANDLING AND POWER IS WHAT MAKE A HONDA. I'VE BEEN HAPPY WITH HONDA FOR 13YRS. ALSO FOR THOSE WHO LIKE SAFETY GET AN HID LOWBEAM HEADLIGHT GREAT VISIBLTY. ALSO LOOK INTO A YELLOW HIGHBEAM FOR THE DAY. ALWAYS RIDE WITH YOUR HIGHS ON DURING THE DAY. AND PEOPLE IF U HAVE A 954 GET A FULL PIPE NOT A BOLT ON. U SPEND 3 TO 400 ON A SLIP AND I PAID 500 FOR A FULL PLUS I GOT GREAT SOUND AND GREAT POWER BUT WITH A SLIP ALL U GET IS 2 TO 4HP AND ITS ALL SOUND. I GET 8HP TO 12HP GAIN. ALSO LOOK INTO BUYING FRAMESLIDERS THEY WORK. ALSO A STEERING DAMPENER.

Full D&D exaust

Carberation

From 4,000 rpm up to redline the bike pulls as if it is being chased by angry Gixxer 1000's. Midrange is very linear.

Brakes

Perfect, can save you in traffic with only two fingers on the front. Brakes nicely through curves as well.

Handling

Point and shoot. The bike WILL do what you want/need it to do. I have carved up lots of Texas highways in and around Austin (HOOK EM HORNS) and can't get enough of this bike.

Comments

Gixxer 1000's are the alpha male on the dyno and that is it. If you want to have a status symbol that is fine, I'll just carve the inside line while you float high on that gixxer, R1, etc. Just playing, the difference is splitting hairs but that is the difference between 1 and 2.

IF U DONT KNOW WHAT A FASTAG IS WELL IT FLIPS UP MY LICENSE PLATE. WHICH IS GREAT TO HAVE WHEN U DONT WANT TO BE KNOWN.

Carberation

AT STOCK THE BIKE WAS SWEET BUT TO QUITE FOR ME AND A BIT SLOW. SO I ADDED THE HINDLE AND BROUGHT POWER TO 145HP AND NOW I HAVE A BEAST THAT LOVE TO WHEELIE AND THE PIPE SOUNDS IS AWESOME. SPECAILLY WHEN U GET ON IT. ALL THOUGH THE ONLY ISSUE IM HAVE IS AT TAKE OFF IT CUTS OFF A BIT AND IT SHUT DOWN ON ME A FEW TIMES COMING TO A STOP. I THOUGHT THIS HAD TO DO WITH MY POWER COMMANDER BUT IVE BEEN READY ABOUT THAT SAME ISSUE FROM OTHER 954 USERS. I HAVE 17000 MILES ON IT AND IT JUSTR LOVE TO PULL HARD AND HARDER. I DO KNOW ONE THING IF THIS BIKES MOTOR GOES IM REBUILDING IT.

Brakes

Feel, StrengtH.. ITS FEELS GREAT FOR STOCK AND IM STILL ON MY STOCK PADS..

Handling

WELL WHAT CAN I SAY THAT EVERYONE ELSE WILL TELL YOU WHICH IS VERY TRUE. THIS BIKE REALLY RIDES ON RAIL. HANDLE IS SO AWESOME EXCEPT WHEN IM DOING VERY HIGH SPEEDS AND THE DARN FRONT COMES UP ON ME BUT OTHER THEN THAT I LOVE THIS BIKE. HOW COME THEY DIDNT MAKE THIS BIKE FIRST BEFORE THE 900RR?? OHWELL BETTER LATE THEN NEVER.

Comments

TO ALL RIDERS WHO OWN AND WANT MORE POWER FOR YOUR 954. OH SORRY THERE IS NO POWER ADD ON'S LIKE THERE IS FOR THE 929.. WHY WTF.. THE 954 IS BETTER LOOKING,LIGHTER AND HANDLES WAY BETTER BUT THE 954 COULD USE A BIT MORE BOTTOM END POWER SO I ASK WHERE ARE THE DROP IN CAMS. IF THIS MOTOR EVER GOES I WILL GET THE HEADS DONE AT LEAST ITS A START. OH I ALSO RIDE A DONE UP DRAGGED OUT 7" BACK 145HP 93 CBR919RR CAMS HEADS 39 RACE CARBS FULL CARBON D&D FULLY POLISHED OUT AND CHROMED BLACKOUTS STROBES NEW PAINT TAPEWORK STICKERS FOX SHOCK REAR AND FRONT HAS RACETECH SPRINGS ALL BRAIDED LINES 190/50-17,60,000 MILES ON THE FRAME AND IT FEELS LIKE IT TOO. ITS STARTING TO RIDE LIKE AN OLD HORSE AND IT DOESNT DO WHEELIES ANYMORE. ENJOY EVERYONE AND BE SAFE OUT THERE..
