any flat spots etc. Flat spot between 3-4000 K unti I shimed and the needles and changed the air fuel ratio. Amazing surge of power above 7000k. Not much will keep up to it at roll on at that speed.
Feel, Strength Brakes are average for a bike with the weight and size. Will be putting braided lines on this winter. Also there is a 30,000k problem with front rotors warping under hard riding
Find the handling has improved dramatically with the Ohlins. Beautif balance of pure sport and pure touring
I have tryed many of the new bikes and would only trade up to the Busa to get the same feel but that would be at the sacrifice of the looks. Bike still turns heads especially with the rad paint job. The old king of speed will be with me for a long time.

Prior to the modifications, the bike ran well. It was smooth and the power sort of built up gradually. On the other hand once the mods were completed, WOW!!! Totally different beast. Quick take off and alot of hidden power down low! Not disappointed at all! As a matter of fact I recently ran with a couple of buddies and one had a 2001 Hayabusa and I killed him during take off and he had trouble catching me.Needless to say he took his bike to the shop to de-restricted and added a Yoshi pipe. I've owned the bike new since 1998, purchased it as a leftover and sorrowfully traded it in last week for a 2001 ZX12R!!!
Braking initially was kind of soft but good. The Stainless Steel Braided Lines are a must though, big improvement!!!
Again good but set up for touring. That's wha the bike is made to do. However, the RaceTech Gold Valve stuff really worked well. They set the bike up for my weight and all and the bike felt much more responsive!
I don't care what anybody says the ZX11 is a very good bike, even if most the design is somewhat outdated. Kawasaki knew just what they were doing. I feel privledged to have keptthe bike as long as I did, and get the most out of it. I was fortunate notto have any spills nor any problems with it. I sur e will miss it but it time for a new project!

Absolutely awe inspiring power! There is a little flat spot around 4K that can be fixed easily with a jet kit. Power hits about 5,200 rpm but will pull from down to 2K. 40mm carbs are stock so mileage isn't all that great. Expect about 35-40 mpg if you are really nice and about 20-25 if you are having fun. The 6.2 gallon tank makes this no problem.
Braking is lacking. Steel lines improve things immensely but adding new rotors and calipers would be even better. Don't forget this bike is well over 500lbs. Rotor warp is common if you commonly do quick stops from 100mph or so. Stock brake pads help prevent this along with making sure the calipers and pistons are superbly clean and lubed so they don't bind up. It's not a zx-9 but it isn't a slouch either.
Handling is better than I expected from such a large bike. It's fairly neutral and given the proper tires, will drag the pegs no problem. The rear shock is notorious for being a bit stiff. There is usually some chatter from the rear when hard on the brakes or over ripples in the pavement. Recommend either investing in a new shock or having the original rebuilt (only about $200).
The mods I have made and suggested don't mean that the bike is insufficient in any way. This is a very capable sportbike and an EXCELLENT sport-tourer. The suggestions I made would merely make the bike better. Don't forget this was the world's fastest bike for 10 years! There is a problem with oil starvation to the 3rd main bearing. Keeping the oil to the top of the fill window helps prevent this. Not doing wheelies also prevents this. The bike is not very tolerant of wheelies (tranny, shocks, bearing, steering stem) unless they let down gently. There are a couple companies that sell a kit to bypass the oilpan and prevent starvation to the main bearings. These are unnecessary if the bike is maintained properly. If buying one and able to check the oil, look for gold flakes in the oil. This is a definate sign of trouble.

not bad but not great....these things weigh over 600lbs wet.
sold the bike with around 4000 miles on it.........lots of power.....great for sport touring duty

I,ve but been amazed by this bike, specially choosen 1993 for its unique color. Bike can Wheelie , but can also run down 1/4 mile in surprising fashion . Last time i went all out i lost my buddy s 1999 VFR at 245 and 270 my other friends 900 cbr 1994 was not there ..... but the best part is there still a tad throttle at 270. Not that i regularly go these speeds but we try it at least once to see where this thing can go. It goes and goes also 30 min to 7 hrs rides this is a perfect sport touring and we emphasize sport and touring in this case . Proper set of tires and u lick a curb ....and straightaways are this purple and orange machines reason for breathing.
Brakes are but a slim shot from excellent i solved this cushiness by adding braided hoses to pump dmore direct pressur ...it works but if $$$$ not a problem go for carbon or superior disks and pads. You never have enough brakes .....
beeing a big boy i stiffenend the front end with prosport coils in the front pegs which did a smooth but firm difference. low cost mod worth it ...... same time dump new seals and oil(ps ck oil ratio s it does effect the throw on the front)
i refuse to relinquish my right of ownership on this one. Its done me a happy rider and very satisfied loyal kawa fan i am well what could i say wrong about this machine. looks excellent, handles great , brakes just fine considering this isnt a 400lbs whoopi machine, performance well u got to try it to believe it. Runs through tach with joy from 4500 - 7000 , jumps out of itself at 8500 rpm .
Absolutely stock except a Corbim saddle. A must for long rides...
Power was smooth up to 6500 or so, then hang on. Amazingly smooth power delivery above speeds of 120mph too. Never seems to run dry of it....
For an immense bike the brakes are better than adequate. Seeing a deer at 140mph and being able to haul this beast down before getting close to Bambi: Priceless.
After three months in the saddle I had her banking (and sliding) right to the pegs. Not quite my CBR600, but still lots of fun.
For an older bike it still made people look and it still went like a bullet. Previous owner wheelied a lot and the tranny needed a rebuild because of it. Easy bike to work on. Too bad it got in a fight with a Dodge minivan last year. Best sport-touring platform in its time, not to mention speed king.

Slight dead spot between 3500 and 5500.
Was very spongy until Braided Brake lines were put on... very good now.
Was a bit soft, described by many as a Lounge Chair on two wheels... since the suspensionw as redone with springs for my weight and better specs, a vast improvement. 600mile days are a breeze and same with a 120 mile set of tight corners.
The only bike I'd trade it for would be the new ZX10R... make mine Orange please!

With many years of experience incl A CBX and a Hayabusa This bike really impressed me. Looks great and feels like a new one. Plan on keeping this one for awhile.
Stage 1 dyno jet kit,Smoke colored shield,Green nut and screw kit ,Pro gip gel grips.Drilled holes in the exhaust baffles .
Had surge at idle and a flat spot between 3000-4000 RPM. I had several holes dilled in the exhaust baffles frome the end of the pipes.Lot better sound and still quit at idle.Installed a stage1 jet kit[DYNO JET].Raised the needle 1 more notch and turned idle mix screw 1 more turn than instuction stated and works lot better. Also used the 155 main jets the sopplied. Now idles great and no more flat spot.Power wheelies with no problem.
All stock here.LITTLE WEEK COMPARED TO A NEW ZX9 BUT OK.
iTS NO YZF600 BUT DOES GOOD FOR SUCH A BIG BIKE.hAS MORE POWER THAN MOST PEOPLE NEED.Long stretch to the grips not made for people under 5.5 tall.Im 6 foot and is perfectly comfortable.better comfort than my bros zx9 or my yzf600.
This bike rocks. It begs to go fast.Rides best at 120 mph.Strongly recomend jet kit and drill 5/8 inch holes in the end of tail pipes.dont forget the gell grips. The foam ones have to much play in them.

very strong...gawd awful strong above 7000 rpm
I'm putting in stiffer fork springs and braided lines today, besides that, nothing.
There is a flat spot from 3.5k~4k, but you're only there for 1st anyways.
My brakes are great, but after 15 years, they're a bit spongy. I'm putting in braided lines to see how that feels. The braking power though is excellent.
Turning while braking is very good. Laying down the pegs while make a left through a an intersection is not difficult. Twisties are fun. It is a big heavy old bike, but with the proper TLC, its a baby.
I love. My 60-120mph is faster than most 600's 0-60. Steady power once you're above 4k. Great handling, great feedback, great looks. I still get comments on it from people thinking its a lot newer than '90.

Double bubble which really helped wind deflection, Progressive springs in front forks (am considering Race Tech valving), tank bra, Corbin Gunfighter is on order, Michelin Pilot Sports, Power Commander with remote adjustment, 6 pot calipers up front (will go on this week), gel grips, GenMar risers, braided steel brake lines, alarm system, polished rims and various parts.
Lots of power, had a flat spot when I bought it, but added a thin washer to needles and Power Commander which eliminated it completely. She likes me to ride her hard and screams with joy!
Braided brake lines made a big difference. I'll be installing 6 pot calipers this week.
I've learned to work with the weight but am considering having Race Tech set up my suspension front and back.
I've had this beauty about 6 years now. I was excited about the ZZR1200 until I realized that it was still carburated, thinking the best set up for me would be fuel injection. I saw the new ZX14 and even though it's fuel injected, Kawasaki strayed from the sport-touring bike I was looking for and created the ultimate drag bike. I guess I'll be keeping my 11 until the perfect bike is created. In the mean time, I haven't sat on another bike that I felt was a better one than mine.
The bike has a Racetech prepared suspension and 12 guage wire, dual relay, wiring harness for the 100 watt headlamp. Brake pads are 'blues'. The rest is bone stock.
Carburetors are unrestricted and tuning has alleviated the 4.5k flat spot. Power is seamless with an elevated intensity (read: ferocity) at 7k and above. The bike particulary likes cooler, high pressure (air) days and not hot or humid ones. Torque is abundant throughout the power range.
Braking is adequate when gently applied; even at high speeds. The front brake lever feel is soft and needs braided steel lines to sharpen the response. The rear brakes are effective (i.e. can be used more prodigiously than other bikes' rear brakes) because of the weight of the bike on the rear wheel and the downforce created by the aerodynamics of the bike.
With the upgraded suspension and BT-010's the handling of the bike was above average given the timeline of the chassis. Now that I've switched to BT-014's (same size 180 & 120's), the chassis is now no longer up to the tires' increased grip. At the limit, flex is introduced into the chassis and the wind up has destabilized it somewhat on more than 1 occasion. I'm still impressed, however, at the remarkable straight line stability and the high speed cornering (without front end oscillation).
I keep my bike in the best condition I can. I replace components which are either worn or look bad. Amazingly enough, for some inexplicable reason, no matter where I go, someone invariably comes up and asks questions or makes comments about the bike. The year of the bike generally throws most off guard. Bottom line, this model of bike made itself a place in the history of bikes. Few bikes can claim performance titles for 10 years in a row. I looked at both the ZX-12R and ZZR-1200. While both were faster, they both did not deliver enough of an upgrade (in all areas, power, handling, comfort and especially weight improvement) to warrant a change. Hopefully, the upcoming ZX-14/ZZR1400 will do that. I've looked at the ZX-14 carefully (a test ride is planned) and I really like what I see. I've sat on it and it feels quite light and nimble just sitting on it. It would be nice to have both.
factory stage I jet kit yoshi RS2 carbon exhaust factory 4 degree ignition advancer brake tech front full floating rotors K&N air filter
had flat spot, put on exhaust and installed jet kit with dyno (perfect now) set up for 5000ft. 4 degree advancer seemed to help the take off from a stop. Thinking I might go with the 47 tooth sprocket for more low end but the stock gear seems the best for top and low power. The #3 rod bearing already went so cause for one engine overhaul (caused by cracked valvue seal). The 3rd gear probem also is now showing up, pulling the transmission getting it undercut and put in factory shift kit.
Braking is lacking, ride the mountain twisties, drag pegs and rocket on the straight aways. Warped the front rotors, replace with brake tech full floating and tons better will add braided lines and 6 pot to front next.
I have no problems throwing it around 6'3", 190 lbs but used to the 80's bikes that were even heavier. I will most likely re-valve the front shocks and put a new shock on the rear but the stock seems to work fine just have to hang on.....Will also be putting on the ZX9R wheels to loose some weight on the bike.
Pretty happy with the bike, still like the look of it and would only trade for the BMW K1200S.
Corbin Gunfighter with backrest GenMar risers Zero Gravity Double Bubble dark smoke K&N filter and jet kit MIG dual performance mufflers Factory Ignition advance Throttlemeister EBC sintered brakes Steel braided brake lines
Not significant
Excellent on both accounts with the SS brake lines and EBC's. I would say a 15% or better improvement in stopping power over stock, with little or no fade. I don't believe Rotors and Calipers are a necessary uprgade. Go this route first, if you're still not happy, spend the big bucks.
Excellent, better than expected. Handles it's weight well. Brand new set of Pilots are all I could ask for.
It's simple. There's always someone with a slightly older killer low milage stock bike in their garage(kids, wife hates it, no time to ride, etc). Look at the mileage on my 92. With all mods, many bought at bargain prices on ebay, and an immediate full dealer servicing, I have $4500 into this bike.(Jet kit $55, Advancer $25,ETC, ETC, ETC.) Why in God's name would I spend the required $13000 on something to beat it??? I'm spending the rest on a ski boat, or a trip to Europe. It handles, it screams, it's comfortable, it's frick'n cool looking (black), and faster than 98-99% of the bikes regestered in the USA. Yeah, a Busa's faster, but when he's working his second job to pay for it, I'll be riding my "slow" ZX11. And guess what? In five years his Busa will be mine, for $4000 in the dead of winter, cause of the kids, or his wife hates it, or no time to ride..., Assuming I even want one, that is.
