Carberation

Idle kinda sucks at higher altitudes, hunting between 800 and 1300 RPM. I live at 4900 feet and ride elevations up to 9700 feet. What do ya expect a perfect bike? I kinda wish the bike had more power at the upper evevations kinda slow up their.

Brakes

Good compared to my ZX-11 I have EBC rotors and steel lines on that beast.

Handling

Kinda soft in the front it was made for the standard weight rider, that i'm not I push the scales down at 230lbs.

Comments

I love the bike. I only wish the bike had more power.

Mods

List the modifications on this bike:PCIIIR, K&N air filters, full Muzzy's, Bonneville Box, stiffer Racetech fork springs, Ohlins rear shock, new brake pads and stainless brake lines, various other cosmetic changes

Carberation

This bike makes awesome power! It's almost ludicrous that they would make this thing street legal for anyone. There is the typical Kawasaki low end bog but over 4000rpm you'd better be holdin' on tight. Fuel injection works nicely and PCIIIr can take care off bottom end lulls. It's nice to have 170hp + at your fingertips.

Brakes

Braking is adequate for a bike this big. Greatly improved with aftermarket pads and stainess brake lines. No major complaints.

Handling

I also tip the scales at 230lbs. I bumped up the front springs and replaced the stock rear with an Ohlins. Now she handles well and really gets the power to the pavement. New Dunlops and she's a screamin' machine ready to eat up the twisties. I can keep up with the smaller machines (750, 1000) in the corners and paste 'em in the straight aways.

Comments

Whoever, and I mean whoever says this bike is "boring" has NO CLUE what they are doing. It's obvious they don't like to go fast or are afraid lay it in on the corners at 90 mph. I've been racing bikes since I was eight and I can tell that this bike will give you everything you want and that's only at 80000rpms. I can do roll on wheelies in fourth and bring it down at 130mph...does that sound boring to you? It's not a perfect bike by any means but with a few simple mods (as you would do to any bike) she's a mean mf'er more so than any other street bike I've been on.

Mods

Stock other than the exhaust canister and Kevlar brake lines.

Carberation

Glitchy off idle, hard to get going. Unstable idle and must be revved like a 600 off the line just to get it moving smoothly.

Brakes

Below average for this caliber of bike. Nothing specific about it, kind of dull. No great bite or specific feel. Kind of vague, though power is decent.

Handling

Again, nothing really to speak of. Nothing particularly bad, nor particularly good. Kind of dull feeling. Motor has to be revved a lot to make power. Lots of vibration, especially at cruise speed on the highway (4500-5000 RPM).

Comments

Compared to the near competitors, the CBR1100XX and the Hayabusa, the ZX is boring. It also has significantly less grunt off the bottom and is not easy to launch at all. Quite disappointing.

Mods

List the modifications on this bike: stock except for a power commander.

Carberation

any flat spots etc. there was an initial glitch just off idle, but the power commander took care of it. using the origional program that came with the programmer. power however, to put it mildly, is simply awwwwwwwwweesome!!! As you can imagine, I did ride a few other bikes and I gotta tell ya, roll on power on the freeway in top gear is mind bending. Acceleration off the line MUST BE DONE WITH CARE!!! the bike makes enough power to pull the wheel off the ground in first and keep it there, if you let it!!! really accelerates with authority. just 1 comment on the other guy who put his opinion on this page also about the zx-12, there must be something WRONG WITH YOUR BIKE!!@!!

Brakes

Feel, Strength ...very good. good modulation and bite when you need it.

Handling

handles very well. altho it felt a little tall at first, which i cured with some lowering links and raising the front forks. now it feels totally balanced.

Comments

This bike has stunned me in a way that NO OTHER BIKE HAS!!! or to put it another way, it is a very exciting bike to ride. any bike that goes through the quarter mile in THIRD GEAR AT OVER 140 MPH is anything but boring!

this bike is freakin bad if you use it in staights and want massive roll ons. you can easily cruise at 130 (but I am only 140 lbs)its a bit jumpy in the fuel injection but they fixed that in the new one and it also got 2 fans instead of 1 which it really needed cause it ran really hot

any flat spots etc. - bike is a little sluggish off idle - but seems too come alive after 3000 - have not been over 6000 yet - trying to stay under per manuf break in recs - if i ever need to go over 6000 it will probably scare the heck out of me

Brakes

Feel, Strength - fantastic brakes - pull you down quick with no wobble or fade

Handling

Good with speed - not as easy to handle at low speed as my bandit 1200 was - but i'll get used to it

Comments

great bike - awesome power - great in corners at speed - great brakes - seat and position feels a whole lot better than the busa to me - i feel like it was the best buy for the buck

Carberation

any flat spots etc.The power couldn't be more perfect and the torque is GREAT!! but the most stunning thing is the speed, just a few turns on the accelerator and your up to 155 mph!!!!!!

Brakes

Feel, Strength The brakes are pretty powerfull but they could be better.

Handling

Handling is very good at high speeds with good tires ofcourse such as pirellis or dunlop 207's.

Comments

I like the bike since i'm pretty tall but for small riders it's not as nice.speedo meter up to 350 km/h.It's nice on long trips on the freeway. On the track it's not as good cuz the tires are to wide and a good width would be 190 and the frame aint exactly ''superbike''

Carberation

The idle is driving me crazy. I hate the oscillation I will not give up on it. I bought this bike as a left over and paid accordingly. It is extremely fast and other than the idle I love it. I also think green is mean. The new ones are too bubbly looking. I retard the ignition below 4000 rpm -2 and it runs great in town. Above 4000 rpm is my secret, hang on.

Brakes

Feel, Strength Well I liked the brakes until the rear caliper split in half and got caught in the rear mag causing a lot of damage. I noticed they did not use a support like on my zx11. Now I am little scared of using the brakes.

Handling

I think it handles great. I used to think I was not a good rider but that all changed when I got on this one.

Comments

Don't know what you have until you brake 4-5000 rpm, then hold on for dear life. I'm 225lbs and it's nice to have a bike that will stand right up when your crouching down on the tank. This bike's got power.

Brakes

they're strong, I guess they have to be but it makes it difficult to ride out a stoppy.

Handling

no complaints, this machine is stable especially at high speeds.

Comments

Ever since I got on this bike I fell in love with it. You definately don't have to prove you're the fastest, if you got the balls this bike will take you there.

Stupid power. No flat spots or any other complaints in the engine/tranny.

Brakes

I'm 225lbs, and it'll stand me right up. Feels great and doesn't stand you up while braking in the corners.

Handling

Handles like a smaller than 1200cc bike. I'm big enough to pull it down in the corners though. No complaints at all here.

Comments

This is the best overall bike I have owned. (VFR, CBR1000, ZX9R, Intruder)I can take 350 mile cruises and still walk the next day, all while having the time of my life. This bike rules!

Carberation

any flat spots etc.-The bike is heavier than most sport bikes, when you ride it slow it will handle and perform sluggishly. Do we buy sportbikes to ride them slowly? I'm thinking not!! Besides its fuel injected no stinking carbs here.

Brakes

Feel, Strength - just awesome, forget the rear. When you have to get on the binders, you better hope you don't do a stoppie by accident.

Handling

I have to agree with some of the others, the faster you go the better it feels.

Comments

I didn't get to ride the bike (test) until after I bought it. But, I am soooo glad I did. I do notice a bit of vibration in the seat and grips though, Hell, who cares!!!!!
