Carberation

Good power at high end, however a little hesitation at the 3000 mark. Can not seem to get rid of that. Plenty of power when at high speeds.

Brakes

They work but it seems as if I need to use more force then on other bikes. Taken me from 60 to 0 in a very short distance.

Handling

Handles fairly well. Handles the city streets and tight corners in the Ohio State University area and where I really run it.

Comments

This is bike is the first bike I had riden. I have ridden others and I would have to say that this bike is a great first bike. It is very forgiving while learning how to ride but still have the power to have some fun on.

Mods

Centerstand removal (scraped often so I removed it) Yosh pipe Jet kit

Carberation

Smooth engine, has an incredible high rpm rush. The bike keeps on pulling even at high speeds.

Brakes

Adequate but I installed new pads and stainless brake lines to help things out.

Handling

A bit on the lardy side but seems to lose it's weight as speed picks up

Comments

This is a great bike. I commut to work on it everyday and I arrive at work without a sore back, wrists, etc

Mods

pipe, jets,

Carberation

had no problems, smooth, plenty fast for it's day.probably the fastest back then.

Brakes

good feel on the brakes till they heated up got alittle sort after that. put braided line on and it got better.

Handling

handled pretty good, nice touring bike.racing is another story. needed to raise the rear a bit.when i would put it into a corner hard it would drag everything.bodywork, levers, pipe everthing.

Comments

this bike is what i started racing on. back in 94 and it didn't take long till i was riding it to it's limit due mostly to the chassic. the motor was plenty powerful and fast.the only down to it was the shift fork for second gear it bent pretty easy.when they changed to the zx6r then they got it.

Mods

Muzzy Aluminum can, 170/60 dunlop 207 Rear (A must!), No Centerstand(the 170 rears are too wide!), Muzzy Steel brake lines, Factory Pro Jet Kit, lost two teeth on the rear sprocket, body work, and ofcourse a Corbin seat.

Carberation

Power isn't much under 4000, but thats when the Muzzy can starts to howl. Sounds just like a SuperBike, and with the jet kit, It feels like one too! 10,000 and above the power just keeps comin' so smooth... Definatley jet this bike for a great powerband, but you dont *need* it. Thats the great part.

Brakes

The brakes are adequate, as in, they slow the wheels. Nothing spectacular though.

Handling

It is a 430Lb 600cc bike, and behaves as such. Get to highway speed (75+mph) and it handles great.

Comments

This was my very first bike, and it has grown up with me. It is very versitile as a touring bike (1000 Miles in two days is no prob), as a commuter (I do 80 miles to and from every day), and just for fun (Great ridability). It is strong in stock configuration, and can be modded above a 6R level. "Above" becasue it is so damn comfortable! And it looks good too!

Mods

no mods. just a peace of shit.

Carberation

barely has ANY flats spots. only when comming on 3000 rpm, 4, 5, and 6. oh yeah, and 10, 11 and 12 rpm.

Brakes

no good. brakes are so bad right now that i scratched the shit out of the rotors. as a matter of fact, i think they work better when they are scratched....wait... maybe not.

Handling

poor handling. bike is very light at about (335lbs.) but when i get on it, it weighs about 956. so i guess it handles pretty well :)

Comments

if you get a zx6 dont waist your money. take my word for it. i only dropped it about 50 or 60 times.

Handling

a little sluggish compared to the newer bikes, but handles extremely well at high speeds

Mods

Muzzys stainless steel full system, custom jet drilling, K&N filter..

Carberation

The ZX-6E stock was decently fast however after the mods listed above, the bike became a rocket after 7000rpm. Power developes as early as 3300rpms in the right gear/speed combination.

Brakes

I weigh 175 and the front brakes stop me very quickly from speed. I have not anything to compare them to bikewise but I can assure you, these brakes work with proper human input.

Handling

Smooth and unintimidating! On the stock Bridgestone BT-50F tires I was able to confidently scrape the left peg on Angeles Crest Highway.. a definate compliment to such an old design of bike....

Comments

This bike, with the above mods, is enough to take out a Suzuki SV1000S on the highway. A good, fast bike yet still comfy enough for a 770 mile single-pass ride, with a little of the "tinglies".. try that on any other bike this fast!

Mods

K&N air filter, 165 jets, NGK Iridium spark plugs(gapped @ .042"), gutted stock muffler, 520 chain conv., 14T front 42T rear gearing, removed air baffles from intake ducts, lowered front 1.5" & rear one hole on the lowering links(2"?)

Carberation

Mild flat spot around 6,000R.P.M., fine tuning using a complete jet kit will correct.Great throttle response at low speeds, pulls with smooth power 'til an indicated 15,100R.P.M.'s.

Brakes

Good stopping power, but the brake lever gets spongy after a few hard miles(still running stock pads & hoses).

Handling

With suspension settings close to full stiffness and a set of Pirelli diablo tires(190/50R&120/70F) the offers a very confident feel in the turns. The lowered stance allows for great stability at high speeds.

Mods

The bike is total standard apart from a full nexxus exhaust.

Carberation

The good power delivery except for a flat spot around 7000rpm after that she flys.

Brakes

Feel is quite good but could do with being a little stronger.

Handling

The handling is not bad for what is tourer. Stick some decent rubber on and you can have some excelent fun.

Comments

The bike is very comfortable and can easily be ridden for 200miles plus, without a break. Can,t keep up with a supersport but they will have to make a lot more fuel and rest stops than you.

Mods

List the modifications on this bike I plan to put a custom seat on the bike, not because the o.e.m. is uncomfortable, but because it is so plain looking. The black paint has blue flecks in it and is really attractive in the sunlight. I will have a seat made with blue piping to compliment the paint. My 2003 has a full stainless exhaust system and I think they did a great job to get power and smoothness from tuning it at the factory so I'm not going to screw with it. The air induction gives me the sound I want from my bike (and the power) it's great. The front end seems a little vague and I can't get a straight answer on mods to improve it so maybe someone out there can give me some advice on that.

Carberation

any flat spots etc. No flat spots whatsoever.

Brakes

Feel, Strength is o.k. it's about average comparing it to the 6 other bikes I've owned.

Handling

Not bad, but has that vague feel in the front.

Comments

Great sport tourer and commuter.

Carberation

Plenty of power, easy to wheelie on command, really quick acceleration.

Brakes

Good brakes, never over brake or under brake, this bike brakes on command...

Handling

Great handling on the highway goin in and out of lanes at speeds above 120mph, complete control.

Comments

This is a great bike for mid expierenced riders, great to learn to pop up on one wheel and ride it out, and a real head turner...

Mods

Cobra F-4 pipes, i also cut out all the undertail crap that clutters up the rear end, now its just taillight, signal, and license plate....muchh better.

Carberation

A little flat until about 8000 then it comes alive, not as fast as my buddy's cbr600F1 which i'm kinda disappointed in. It makes its way easily to 130 with revs to spare but it takes quite a stretch of road to get it there.

Brakes

fronts are excellent and will throw you off the front if you're not careful with them, rears are mediocre...it feels as if theres nothing in between not using them and locking them up...(car sitting in middle of road about 200 yards ahead, thought it would be a routine slowdown but eased on the brakes and locked up rear end...at 90MPH! ...not cool)

Handling

for a bike in the shape mines in it handles like a champ. Twistier spots at near 3-digit speeds no problem...especially with new rubber front and rear. the 140/90/r16 was just what the doctor ordered for the rear.

Comments

About what i'd expected for paying $1800. It's a good beginner bike but i'm one of those people that will take something to its limits and if i'm not satisfied by the time 6th gear pinned comes along then it's not enough. This is not enough bike for me but has been very forgiving to learn on, also a good bike to learn to carve. This bike didnt have enough to scare me but for the right price you cant beat it. Oh well, maybe a ZX-7 will do the trick?

Mods

4 in 2 - 1 stainless exhaust with hindle pipe. not sure if the sprockets and air filter were changed by previous owners.

Carberation

Power is AWESOME

Brakes

Breaking is very nice, very very good for this bike.

Handling

I am on stock tires and I am thinking of changing to a 170 rear because I find riding at high speeds the back end feels a little loose The tire does need to be change and the rear shock needs to be adjusted to 3.

Comments

On a full tank of gas it runs great until the half way mark, then I end to run out of gas quicker from the half way to the end; maybe it just me... Over all I love it!

Mods

k&n filter, +4 ing. advance, gutted pipes, 13tooth front sprocket and 48 tooth vortex rear sprocket wrapped in a 520 pitch rk chain. maxxis rubber, and a couple of sneaky hidden mods.

Carberation

with all the above...very satisfing. looks slow, but delivers quite well. sprockets work miracles

Brakes

all stock brakes. decent i guess

Handling

a little spooky in a few turns but after the maxxis tires were added that all changed

Comments

very fun bike. definatly has flaws, like transmission cant withstand wheelies very well. really hard to find goodys for it. but i love the bike now. soon to have a 10 inch extended swingarm {chrome} and dropped a few inches.

Mods

None, I'm about to be adding a few things - I need help finding stuff though...please help me!! jedipercussionist@hotmail.com

Carberation

With a good combination of rpm and clutch, I am able to get the front wheel off the ground and hold it there with no problems.

Brakes

I have to squeeze much harder than I would really like to, and if I want to get my rear wheel of the ground I usually have to load and unload my suspension to get it to raise.

Handling

I love looking at signs that say "10mph turn" because I usually blow by them somewhere around 45 or 50. I changed over to Dunlop tires, and shortly afterwards decided that they were the worst tire anyone could ever buy. I was probably better off with the stock Bridgestone tires. If you have any suggestions, please help me! I am also about to mess with my suspension, but I am going to do alot of research on that - I hear you can mess things up quite abit on the handling side with suspension, remember you have 3 things you are controlling with each shock >.<

Comments

I've nothing to compare with other than riding my friends bikes a few short moments; however, I most definately have no complaints what so ever! I can really use help finding parts and getting ideas, any little thing helps!

Carberation

I have a severe flat spot at about 3500 rpm's...but i don't ride in that range too often....scream it up to 10,000 rpms...then shift. impressive power out of a 600...I would like to move up to the 750 soon though.

Brakes

brakes are adequate...wish the back had more stopping power

Handling

feels a little heavy...but over 50 mine lightens right up

Comments

Great reliable buke but needs rubber isolators for the bars....lots of buzz.....my hands are numb after an hour.

Factory config 10 jet kit Yoshimura Zyclone exhaust 18 tooth front gear Corbin seat w/ backrest

Carberation

Factory jet kit cured all woes (long warmup time, flat spots, etc.)

Brakes

(rear)A little spongy compared to my friend's R6 Great front brakes. They are more than adequate.

Handling

A tad heavy at slower speeds but over 80, as well as an R model

Comments

Some of the mags say it can tour, I put it to the test. 1003.7 miles in 72 hours. It performed flawlessly on the trip. Averaged 53.3 mpg. Corbin seat was a bun saver.. Really needs handlebar risers and cruise control (my next purchases). A great first bike.

Carberation

flawless compared to factory, plenty of power, hey if any of you guys have old MotorCyclist mags like me, dig up a '93 issue on this bike and check out the road test(this is the year they added ram -air- induction).... 153mph on top end! low 11 second quarter mile times...hmmmmm. after the weight shed of factory exhaust and rejetting how much faster is the R ? (not to mention the comfort factor!)

Brakes

I have to give it a thumbs down on braking though, not nearly aggresive enough... wet your leathers in a curve if youre not careful.... but i think that can be fixed with some aftermarket parts and that is my next project.

Handling

Very light and nimble, after 1 day and a few adjustments i have no complaints in this department.

Comments

Great bike! Dont think its a slug because its not, and even without mods, it is as fast as any mortal human needs to go anyway,... but with the mods i ride with a bud with an r-6 and hes never out of sight so dont think you have a dinousaur if you have this bike because nothing is further from the truth!
