Carberation

Power is fantastic, seemingly never ending power. Smooth delivery. Had carbs replaced due to one occurance of carb icing but other than that it is a faultless performer.

Brakes

Again, brilliant brakes. If you use them over and over again hard, then it can lose some feel but overall fantastic.

Handling

Had to adjust the compression a bit as it was a bit too soft for my lardy weight. Now it is OK. Could do with some more adjustments by a company that knows!!

Comments

Overall, a very enjoyable, comfortable, more than capable and extremely fast bike.

Mods

After a year I had the carbs rejetted, installed a full-system Muzzy exhaust with an oval titanium canister, and had it dyno-tuned (142.4 HP with 75.0 ft/lbs of torgue). Just recently had steel-braided lines put on up front with Ferodo pads. Also have a tinted Zero Gravity windscreen and a variety of purple parts (bar ends, brake reservior caps, sprocket nuts, valve stem caps, gas tank bolts) to customize my bike to me.

Carberation

The power was tremendous and then I rejetted and repiped. WOW! That's why I redid the front brakes, so I could stop as fast as I could accelerate. If I twist my wrist and let her rip I don't have any noticable flat spots, but if I'm tooling around town in a moderate fashion I seem to hit a flat spot around 5000-6000 rpm, or somewhere around there.

Brakes

Stock brake set-up was quite good and instilled in me a sense of confidence, especially after a couple of near misses with concrete barriers. But now... Get yourself some steel braided lines. They're the kind.

Handling

The original suspension set-up was very rigid and didn't give a good ride. I had someone set it up for me and he ran out of adjustment meaning that Kawasaki factory springs suck. If I want a set-up of perfection I'd have to get after-market springs and shock. Whatever.

Comments

How could you not like this bike? I've never owned nor ridden an R1, 929RR, or Gixxer 750/1000. What I like about the ZX-9R is that it has a wide front end for you to get behind and very stable. The R1 is very narrow and I recall the 929 seat as being uncomfortable. Part of the reason for buying the ZX-9R was it is a little more comfortable than the other open class bikes. Enjoy!

List the modifications on this bike Ohlins race rear shock, Ohlins internals on forks, Akrapovic Ti full system, 2 degree advancer, Carby factory jet kit and modifications, Full head port and flow, compression raised to 14.5:1, BMC filter, Carbon belly pan and Hugger, smoked D/B screen, SS braided lines.

Carberation

any flat spots etc. Initially the carburation was very abrupt on transition from power off to power on no matter how careful the application leading to a tendancy for high sides in fast corners. Jet kit carby mods and professional know how fixed this to give a much smoother delivery from zero to redline.

Brakes

Feel, Strength Standard brakes are strong and even but on the track after hard braking noticable fade so fitted FrenTurbo SS lines kept the standard pads haven't found anything better yet and lasted 20k on the front. back are still stock also but with braided lines.

Handling

I like my setup fairly hard the Ohlins changes made this bike drive so much harder out of corners and set up for fast sweepers so much easier it is a pleasure to ride hard and very precise on sticking to the chosen line, I had this professionally installed and setup well worth the cost.

Comments

I have had this bike 2 years on the 24th of Dec and while I have made a few it is still essentially the same great bike I bought it does everything well and with 152RWHP on standard fuel nothing short of a 12R has its measure. I have ridden all the latest and greatest bike currently available and while very good I still haven't found one that I would change to at this stage(12R included), a very underated bike in the real world.

520-chain conversion, chopped rear fender w/ custom license plate mount, short stalk turn signals front/rear, Second Look tank bra, stainless steel brake lines front/rear, Muzzy's full titanium exhaust w/ Akrapovic c/f canister, Ohlins fully-adjustable shock, Race Tech gold valves in fork legs, factory 2000 Kawi headlight/front cowl/ram air assembly, HID headlights, Pro-Tek & Competition Werkes footpegs, Marchesini 5-spoke magnesium wheels, "a work in progress".

Carberation

Pulls like a Clydesdale with stock gearing; Kawi made big improvements on the ram air from '99 to '00. Stock air filter, stock needles shimmed up 1.2mm, running 165 main jets. Last dyno run showed very linear power with a slight flat spot about 4K, which is common. Very strong on top. Power? Second gear no-clutch wheelies.

Brakes

Braided lines a major improvement over stock, which wasn't that bad either. Will upgrade stock 6-pot Tokico calipers for Nissin 6-pots next spring. Stay tuned...

Handling

About 142 bhp pulling 435 lbs w/ full tank of gas. Sweet, very sweet. The suspension makes all the difference in this bike. Currently running Pirelli Dragon Evo tires; very happy with those.

Comments

I've ridden lots of different bikes; the 9R is a very good ergonomic package with good performance potential... it just takes a little work (and ching, $20K so far) to bring it out. You can make an Gixxer 1000 faster, but it's still a rack. This is all-day comfy.

Carberation

ONE FLAT SPOT AT JUST BEFORE 4000RPM, BUT I KNOW IT'S DUE TO THE YOSH SLIP-ON. WHEN I RAN STOCK AND WHEN I HAD THE D&D THERE WAS NO DETECTABLE FLAT SPOT. ALSO THE D&D MADE THE BIKE THE BEST RUNNER BETWEEN THE THREE (NO JETTING DONE) BUT MADE THE MOST NOISE. WHICH ISN'T GOOD WHEN YOU TRY TO LOOSE THE ATTENTION THAT YOU ATTRACTED (IE..COPS). BUT EVEN SO THE BIKE IS WONDERFUL AND DEFINATELY UNDERATED. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I DON'T SPEND THE MAJORITY OF MY DAY ON THE RACE TRACK DIVING THROUGH THE ESSES. I RIDE IN THE REAL WORLD AND THE BIKES TRACK SHORTCOMINGS RARELY EVER SHOW, AND TRUST ME WHEN I SAY RIDE I MEAN RIDE. WHEN IT COMES TIME TO RACE EVERYBODY TALKS HAYABUSA. WELL I BEAT SO MANY BUSAS LAST YEAR THAT I HAVE MY KAW FRIENDS SCREAMING HAYA-WHAT?! THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT IT COMES DOWN TO THE RIDER AND YOUR AVERAGE OR ABOVE AVERAGE RIDERS WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO BRING OUT THE FULLEST POTENTIAL OF THE HEAVYWEIGHTS.

Brakes

FEEL IS EXCELLENT AND SO IS THE STOPPING POWER. ENDOS ARE A MERE SQUEEZE AWAY AND EVEN AFTER SOME BACKROAD BLITZING THE FEEL IS STILL VERY GO

Handling

MY BIKE WHEELIES WITH THE GREATEST OF EASE AND STAYS UP UNTIL I PUT IT DOWN AND WHEN I'M 2UP SOMETIMES IT'LL JUST STAY THERE JUST AS FIRMLY PLANTED ON ONE WHEEL AS IF I WERE ON TWO. NOW OF COURSE IT DOESN'T WHEELIE AS EASY AS AN R1 BUT IT IS WITHOUT A DOUBT MORE STABLE NOT ONLY IN THE AIR BUT ALSO DURING LANDINGS NO MATTER IF YOU'RE RIDING 1UP OR 2. ON ROAD TRIPS THE BIKE IS VERY COMFORTABLE ESPECIALLY 1UP. NOW 2UP IS ALSO SURPRISINGLY COMFORTABLE BECAUSE AFTER A FEW 3HR ONE WAY BLITZES 2UP I ONLY RECEIVE SLIGHT WRIST FATIGUE WHICH IS USUALLY CURED BY A 10MIN RUB BY MY PASSENGER WHICH REALLY ISN'T SO BAD IF YOU SEE MY PASSENGERS. THERE IS ONLY 1 BIKE THAT HAS PEEKED MY CURIOSITY SINCE I BOUGHT MY ZX9 AND THAT'S THE GSXR-1000, BUT I WOULD NEVER BY ONE BECAUSE ALTHOUGH IT'S MORE POWERFUL AND I KNOW I COULD TRICK BETTER ON IT I'LL BE 31 THIS YEAR AND I REALLY NEED THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS XTREMEZ AND COMFORT.

this bike is a nightmare to all thats right to all bikes out there. r1's 929, 954,i dont consider. i road race alot and this is truly the gsxr1000 killer, i can let the 1000's leave and i'll pick them back up and pass them effortlessly. hayabusa's cant give me nothing in the quarter of a mileand i'll beat them to the eighth with ease. like i said this bike have won me alot of money on the streets, almost so far paid for my work i had done. a few more races that will be paid for. any comments email me at sstockton77@hotmail.com

Carberation

I installed a Micron bolt on muffler and noticed a flat spot below 4,000 and I tuned out the low rpm jets and it seemed to work it out.

Brakes

The brakes are good but can feel a little mushy at times. But beyond that they have good feedback and response. We'll see what they do when I put on the new stainless braided brake lines, sysnthetic fluid, and kevlar pads.

Handling

Handling is great. It's not a GSXR 1000 but it was never designed to be the best of the best. It is the most comfortable bike out there and will handle its bussiness in the twisties. No doubt about that.

Comments

This bike is great! There's no second guessing yourself on it no matter what you're doing. Hitting the twisties, ridin' on 1 wheel or just crusing along. It will do it all! Let's not forget that its styling is top notch and second to none!

Carberation

Loads and Loads of power. Not for the weak of heart. Can be a little tricky when getting on the power out of a slow corner. Has a slight hesitation at low RPM's. All in all, super fun to pilot this bike.

Brakes

Braking has a great feel. Your never left wondering what your front end might do under heavy braking.

Handling

Very flickable. The riding position allows you to log in some serious saddle time and still get down and dirty in the twisties.

Comments

Overall I rate this bike a 9 out of 10 easily. If your a larger (6'2"+) you won't find a better all out sportbike. The R1 is nice but you'll need some extra cash for a chiropractor.

Carberation

With the combo of the flo-commander, K&N , RS3 pipe and the sprocket conversion the power curve is extremly smooth. The power gain is stupid. this bike is so fast.

Brakes

the brakes are all stock. that is the next item on the wish list, (Galfer rotors, braided lines and pads).

Handling

the bike as everone who has one knows , is so comfortable. Evan when you want to get alittle squirly the bike respones great.

Comments

A R1,CBR killer and with the 998cc kit and head porting surely a GSXR killer.Ideal for travel.Done 180 miles with a tank.A very underestimated bike compared to R1.I would change my 9 for any other bike.

Mods

D&D slip on. double bubble windscreen (zero gravity). HyperPro Steering Dampner. Pro-Tek frame gaurds.

Carberation

pulls like a loco-motive...... lower revs is a bit "stumbly"... stills pulls hard up to redline... still get up on top end (171 recently clocked), with 65,000 (yes, thousand) miles.......

Brakes

still on original rotars..... use EBC pads, green up front, black in rear..... excellant power with minimal fade.... great modulation...... need to install braided lines though, since original rubber ones are flexing a bit....... still have their "one finger" stopping power up front....

Handling

suspension is starting to show age up front.... rear shock holding up well.......... still stable as ever.....

Comments

what can I say..... 65,000 miles and I still luv her........ still holding together extremely well....everything still feels solid as the day when I rode her for the first time...(April/98).. even though I am extremely meticuous with her, she still suprises everyone in both looks and performance..... my buddies 2001 929 can't hold a stick to her in perfomance, even with all his mods........ If anyone is interested..... I've stuck with Castrol Motorcycle synthetic blend, changing oil and filter every 2,000 miles(usually less than that). Only had dunlop 207Rs on her... getting about 6-7 thousand on rear, and 10-12,000 on fronts... and Exxon, Shell or Chevron Super Unleaded (of course) have used red line fuel additive to keep the carbs clean....... Steering dampner was a great add on....... Can't find a reason to get rid of her!!! so I won't!!!!
