Airtech 1/4 fairing

Carberation

no problems yet. Bike isn't a rocket, but it moves pretty good.

Brakes

Fronts stop well, back tends to lockup.

Handling

Light, easy to flick around in the twisties.

Comments

Needs a fairing of some sort on the freeway, but it's a fun bike to ride. Great torque.

Mods

Pyramid Plastics Rear seat cowl -> very cool looking, but count on repainting, even if you buy the painted version Extreme Grafix underbelly -> the only lower I've found that is designed to match the SVs uppers. Mounting was not as easy as they said.

Carberation

Yoshimura RS-3 full exhaust system -> Noticed the power difference right away, plus, it's a lot louder. Finally, the SV sounds like a V-Twin. Ran WAY too rich though. Backfired at almost every shift, almost ruined the motor. See Jet Kit mod below. Stage 1 Jet Kit -> Fixed the flat spot in the RPM's between 4-6k. The bike now has a consistent power band up to 8.5k. Fixed backfiring problem created with new exhaust system.

Brakes

Braided steel brake lines-> got rid of the "smushiness" in the stock lines. Possibly the best mod done.

Handling

The handling was okay before. It was always a fun bike to ride. With the mods listed below, this bike is on a par (handling wise) with R6's etc. Penske GSXR 750 rear shock -> Great addition. The bike finally responds like a bike instead of a boat. Raised the seat height almost an inch. Not a minus for me, but some might find it too tall. Race Tech adjustable forks -> Combined with the Penske shock, the bike's handling and response is amazing. It feels like it wants to go faster and lean more!

Comments

I love this little bike. It's a great first ride, and with all the aftermarket parts available, it is upgradable for even the most experienced riders. It is not demanding if you don't want it to be, but rides like it's on rails when you push it. This is one of the few bikes that is fun at all skill levels, and one of the few bikes MOST riders have a chance to ride to it's full potential! I'd recommend this bike to anyone.

Mods

Oury hand grips, Two Brothers high mount slip-on, carbs shimmed with 2 shims and screw backed out 3 turns, upgraded headlight bulb (80/100), Suzuki sport wind screen

Carberation

Great little motor with lots of grunt right where you need it for getting around town. In the twisties the motor really comes into its own, very easy to ride. It does run out of steam after 110, but up to that point, it gets there very quickly. Much quicker than you would think. With the slip-on, it revs much quicker and the sound is very nice.

Brakes

very good brakes, would benefit from a steel braided line upgrade that would make them even better. But need to address the forks first. Rear brake seems to like to squeal, has from day one, I don't use it much anyway though.

Handling

VERY nimble and light, combined with the grunty motor, makes for a blast around town and in the mountains. BUT, the forks are crap, very soft and way underdamped (if any). Fork dive is terrible with the great brakes. Is very unsettled and does not really give you a solid feel on entry to hard corners, seems a bit vague. The rear is not so great either, but the front seems to be the biggest setback. The MEZ4 tyres are doing very well, and do not have any complaints about them so far.

Comments

Love the bike for romping around town and in tight roads, but not a real good thing for sport touring. Would need a better seat and much better suspension. Other than that, it is a great bike. The windscreen makes all the difference in going on highway blasts (on the naked SV). Was probably the best thing I have bought for it, would not ride without it.

any flat spots etc. Bike pulls excellant all the way through. BMC filter made a big difference

Brakes

Feel, Strength Great EBC pads made a huge difference

Handling

It was shakey at first Visionsports riding schools dialed it in perfect. The penski shock makes a big difference

Comments

Perfect race bike. I have not taken it on the road.

Mods

None - Stock from the Factory

Carberation

Power is nice - there is torque everywhere. It does not have a power hit anywhere in the range, it just kinda goes the same no matter how high you have it revved. One problem - the thing backfires like crazy if you use engine braking anywhere above 4k. Its good for scaring old people but gets annoying at times...

Brakes

Brakes are great, if a little touchy on initial bite. Its easy to lock the back up, but hey - it is a lightweight bike.

Handling

Very easy get in and out of turns. Again, kudos to the lack of weight. The front end feels somewhat soft, but it still works under everything I have come across so far.

Comments

This is a perfect learning bike. The power delivery is great, no surprises, and the size of the bike is not intimidating in the slightest. Plus the bike is inexpensive, both to buy and insure.

Mods

Dynojet Stage 3 & K&N Air filter. Carbonne Lorraine SBK 3 pads. Higher fork tubes (+2.5 cm) for more pre-load

Carberation

Very good. Perfect with the dynojet and K&N. Very quick.

Brakes

Sbk 3 are a little better than oem, but I'm going for braided lines.

Handling

Perfect chassis, but suspensions don't help. I'm going to GSXR shock and new fork springs.

Comments

Very good bike. Perfect for new pilots.

Carberation

carburation is perfect - no lean whatsoever. Will start with little or no choke most of the time.

Brakes

Braking is sure and inspiring...you can go from lethal to sissy faster than you need to generally.

Handling

handling is easy and reliable. On the really tight stuff at speed, the bike will bounce/wallow a bit, but nothing that upsets the chassis or that would tend to make you bail out of what your into...just keep it turned and you'll make the curve.

Comments

This bike is actually a brilliant Freeway mile eater...the chassis eats up the concrete and is a comfortable as some of the better big cruisers.

Mods: I am starting in racing in the 03' season... Hindle High mount full system, supersport 16" muffler. K+N filter, Dynojet jet kit, Michelin pilot race H2, lower fairing, seat cowl, EBC clutch and springs, 20W fork oil, goodridge brake lines, motul brake fluid, DP HH+ brake pads, zero gravity double bubble windscreen, custom aluminum chain guard, frame and bar sliders, raised tank 3/4", tank bra, and a few other things I've forgot. soon will have G-pack, or other ignition advancement, front and rear suspension changes...

Carberation

any flat spots etc. when cold, slight hesitation around 4-6000 rpm, with jetting is gone. Makes good power and torque, especially for me (i weigh 125) but even with larger riders, there is good power (low and mid mostly)

Brakes

Feel, Strength good brakes with decent power. much better still with brake lines and especially DP hh+ pads...

Handling

very good, stock front suspension is mushy but the 20 W fork oil really makes a difference

Comments

love it, my first bike and I feel it was a very good choise, Ive ridden other gsxr's and whatnot, but the SV is great to ride

Mods

Stock but a pipe and a small wind shield would be great.

Carberation

Good power from 6 to around 9, but when just crushing around the 4000 seems to chug along.

Brakes

Front brakes work very well for stock but the back still tends to lock up if you are to aggresive.

Handling

Handles great around town. When you hit the curves I would say that around 80 to 90 is a good speed. Any faster than that and the revs are to high when you use the motor to slow down when entering curve.

Comments

A great beginner bike that can take you a long ways before you max out the performace of the bike. Good price compared to the middle weight bikes with all the fun!

Mods

Racetech emulators in the front with thicker fork oil. This helped a great deal... the bike doesnt dive under brakes anymore. Stiffer shock in the back stops the back from going all over the place when you push it. New pipe...love the sound of it now. no longer sounds like a lawnmower.

Carberation

The pipe seems to have made it a lot smoother in the lower gears when you give it full throttle.. A little less hesitation.

Brakes

Brakes are a little mushy as stock. But I dont notice it as much since i replaced the front suspension.

Handling

This bike handles great. I have beaten many "faster" bikes through the twisties.

Comments

EFI .... absolutlely no flat spots.... power lives between 6,000 and red line.... Specs say rev limit is 10,500.... mine is closer to 11,500

Brakes

smooth .... have had to really slam them yet

Handling

like a toy... tosses in and out of turns turns like... like.... an sv... the handling is responsive but the bike feels like it is turning without you being involved... I often enter and leave a turn feeling like I haven't played any role in it.... it's that easy...

Comments

great power delivery for a little guy (easy wheelie in first at about 6/7k) I got the naked... very windy over 70... advise getting the S if you like the styling or investing in some aftermarket fairing/windshield

Carberation

EFI is the most bulletproof thing they could have put on this bike.

Brakes

Braking is somewhat sketchy at times. Have slid the rear wheel about 5 times under extreme braking. Want to switch to bigger rotors and braided cables.

Handling

Handles like a pocket bike. I flick this thing around back roads with ease. Only 384 pounds dry weight and it feels like even less.

Comments

Great bike, my first. Only bad thing was blew up the clutch at 7600 miles. Think I might have had a bad one from the factory because this thing is way more torquey. Also, this is not the bike for you if you are a big rider. At 6'1", 240lbs. it can be a little uncomfortable after a stretch of riding. Otherwise this bike is superb.

03 Gsxr600 front end, wheel, brakes, steering stem, dampner, clipons, Zx7 brake mastercylinder, spiegler stainless lines. In the back we have 02 gsxr1000 shock, wheel, swingarm, drive gear, and brake. Im packing yoshi titanium RS3 exhaust, Power commander, and k&n filter. Also woodcraft rearsets, shark skins solo seat, carbon fiber front fender, etc, etc, etc... And some uber custom head lights.

Carberation

Stock power was smoothish. love the torky bottom, Who's idea was it to put fuel injection in the SV? Somebody give that man a raise! Add the power commander with yoshi exhaust, "RELEASE THE HOUNDS SMITHERS" It's a whole new world.....

Brakes

Stock braking? How brave are you? In a word, scary. Stainless lines are a must here people!

Handling

out of the box handling was fair. Average. However, wick it up, and pucker up. Front end is really sensitive to climate changes. (typical of dampner rod forks). If it was too hot, pogostick. Too cold, Jackhammer. Play with diffrent oil weights, you will be happy you did.

Comments

The SV is a great little package. With even GREATER potential. Tweek it a little, live happy. Or go crazy, and come out with a unique do anything "RIGHT" machine.

Mods

K&N Filter, Stage 1 Jet Kit, Slip on Art exhaust, Some wires snipped it supposely limited something did make a difference though.

Carberation

I have not had a problem with power bothers me that the peaks are so low around 6 is the time to pull it up but that kinda of bites when second gear 6gs is only 35 miles an hour. But really no complaints

Brakes

Brakes are horrible no matter what i do the front will not stop sqeaking its driving me crazy. The rear does lock up but i kind of like that its a little fun

Handling

I don't know exactly what is wrong with it but for some reason I'm scared to come into to turns on I was fine on my GSXR but the SV does not feel as safe. Comeing out is a little fishy to I hit the gas and i feel like a little bit is giving away in the back

Comments

The power is amazing its faster than my GSXR600, I have smoked plenty of bikes but that could be people not knowing how to ride. The wires being snipped makes a big diff at top end its not slugish at all after 110 anymore if you have a 99 to 02 you want to do a search on that and do it yourself. I have topped it out a few times.

The girl just purchased with 300 miles ! Has fender eliminator, Yosh slip-on. Need source for factory lower (K4)! The $567 price tag is WAY too much ! Also considering lowering it (rear - dogbones). Any input on this ? Also considering back and up clip-ons. Any suggestions ?

Carberation

I only rode it once, double to <where else> the bike shop. It's a nice little ride ! Smooth and powerful.

Brakes

Seems a little "catchy". I'm thinking I may need to clean the pistons.

Handling

I'll have to get back to y'all after I ride it when we get somewhere to enjoy it. I did read that a guy put in 1/2 inch of PVC and went up on fork oil weight. He said it helped the front. (Although being a new rider and at 120lbs she may not know what it should feel like). Any input ?

Comments

Request input to the e-addy above for her first bike rideability suggestions. Thanks... I can only compare the bike to my R1. Not really a comparision. For her it's an "11".

Carberation

No flat spots noted. Great torque throughout.

Brakes

Grreat braking, very fast emergency braking. Rare to occasional sticking of rear brake with rapid application.

Handling

Fantastic, responsive handling. Handles the twisties beutifully.

Flush mount turn signals, carbon fiber parts

Carberation

This bike pulls all the way from a dead stop! Little bump at around 6800 where the front wheel really likes to come up, other than that, just a fast and fun bike.

Brakes

Front is good, could use a little more feel. Easily strong enough to carry a stoppy. Rear is a little more touchy, tendancy to lock up if on it aggressively.

Handling

Handles with the best of them, no problem dragging a peg.

Comments

Handling

Handling is excellent at 7/10ths. If you wish to use for track days you will need stiffer springs and possibly a new rear shock.
