Carberation

Power, Power everywhere.  Most impressed with the top end.

Still toots around town smoothly.

Brakes

Excellent brakes.  Haven't fully worked them in yet.

Handling

Surprises me.  Every day the bike teaches me more.

Comments

I was nervous about the power & comfort factors.  After owning it a week, I'm getting used to the riding position. Comfy-even...  Power is more manageable than I thought.  LOVE IT!!!

This is only my 4th day on the bike. I had a TL1000 R for 2 years. My first impression of the GSXR is amazing to say the least! The first time I got on it I about threw it over to the other side this thing is light! wow The TL was a great bike but I didnt know it could be so much better!

Carberation

Smooth, controllable and lots of it. Fuel injection can be a a little bit switchy (on/off) sometimes but it's not bad.

Brakes

Powerful brakes with good feel.

Handling

Neutral, predictable and confidence building.

Comments

I moved from a 2001 R1 to the GSX-R and will never look back. Handling is more predictable (especially under brakes or on irregular roads) and inspires confidence. Where the R1 had raw power the GSX-R has smooth power, although it seems to be more in the mid to high rev range. The Akrapovic and Power Commander have improved on a great basic product. I found a false neutral between 4th and 5th twice when I first got the bike but not since.

Brakes

Great for stoppies. a little sponge (not bad)

Handling

no brakes necessary. Twist the grip forward and it plants the front-end perfect, then twist and rocket out of the curve!!

Not a good choice for a beginner. None of the gixxers are!! An experienced riders DREAM MACHINE. BY BY R1's, 929's, ZX9R's.

Comments

The missed neutrals that people mention go away after you put some miles on. Especially if you flip things to the race pattern for the shifter for more positive shifts, or learn to get in the habit of depressing the shifter lightly first and then going for more force, just a touch, to get it into gear bike is completely manageable though it still is good advice to take it slow at first. I recommend the MSF course and Keith Code books as a prerequisite for any motorcycle riding check the gixxer.com forum for more info

Paid $10,399 + 1000 prep fee. I've had the bike approximately 4 months, during which I've accrued about 5800 miles. Careful with the throttle! Specially during brake in period and also while riding on semi-cold tires. This bike gets the same gas mileage as my 98 cbr f3. Make sure the front wheel is on the floor while accelerating towards the redline in first gear. This is where the bike is prone to uninvited wheelies. I did exp. false nuetral between fourth and fifth gears at least 8 times. My rear brake started to squeak @ 3000 miles. Experience the rev. limiter or speed governor kick in at a top indicated speed of 186 MPH on a hot (89 F) Jersey August day. Very ready for new tires. Would highly recommend. To an experienced rider that's. Definitely not an amatuers bike. Hard to drive to it's full potential.

Carberation

lOTS OF POWER. Wheelie happy. Power wheelies (no clutch just twist the gas while it's in gear) in first gear will keep the bike on one wheel all the way to 100mph which is where the rev limiter will force down the front wheel, unless you can shift into second. If thats the case, then no problem. There are a few stall zones during heavy traffic driving, but nothing to worry about.

Brakes

They feel a bit mushy. this is the bikes weakest area. Spend a few bucks on some steel braided brake lines and you'll have a winner every time.

Handling

Handles great very confidence inspiring. Igive a thumbs up to the tires.

Comments

Like I said would highly recommend. To some one with experience.Ride safe godspeed to all.

Carberation

fuel injected, lots of power, more power then the other bikes i have rode

Brakes

great braking, back brake squeeks just because i dont use them that much

Handling

turns on a dime and feels great at high speeds (no head shakes) even handles great on really bad roads

Comments

top of the line the other bikes out there dont even come close. smokes worked 929rr easy, R1 is no match, and the Zx's need lots of work to keep up. ive had the bike since june 2001 and its is the only thing i drive. but put it up for the winter and be back in march/april so if anybody is going to be around philly/south jersey maybe i will see you around. sacks96@hotmail.com

Amazing, I only weigh 150 and I cannot possibly floor the bitch in anything but third gear and still I cant keep the front end own all the time. Have brought the fucker up to 190 kph in second gear!!!! Love it more than my bitch

Brakes

Brakes are great but squeeling in the rear is annoying. Stoppies took a while to learn but now I can do them at 80kph. and I've only been riding for 6 months. This is my first bike!!

Handling

Great. Turns, stops, boots like a god, I cant get over it. Everytime I bring it home I want to take it out again.

Comments

Firstly this is my first bike I have owned and so although I cant compare it I know it is amazing compared to others. I have only been riding for 6 moths and the power is very managable. All those fags out there who say its not a begginners bike cna fu** off. They just dont want the bike to become as common as an F4i. For all the beginners out there, don't settle for anythign but the best. If you are willing to spend enough for the bike, dont be chaep. spend the extra 1 or 2 g's and buy this machine. It is too good to be true, and any of you fags out there that dont believe me email me at zuby_95@hotmail.com and I will drive out to wherever you are and show you that a novice can be the shit out of anyone out there. Mind you I weigh 150 pounds, but that doesnt matter, I will accelerate, turn and stop better than any of you boys out there . Email me though if you have any questions about anyhting though, it would make me happy. LAtes P.S The girls will follow you around for a ride, and you will be the happiest person in the world

any flat spots etc. Was Great until I put K&N Air Filter. Need Power Commander or Yosh box if you run K&N or BMC. I had to Duct Tape a Ram Air Tube. Defeats Purpose. With out Tape bike would surge and not go past 8k Rpms. Stick with Stock set up if you dont have a box to remap EFI. In Stock set up bike is AWESOME Power power power.

Carberation

Lots of power in every gear the extra 4" on the swing arm really helps with speed with out the frount end coming up. The 4 more teeth on the rear spocket makes it faster, however, the Rs are up and the bike is not as nice to ride at lower speeds like though traffic james, next to a cop.

Brakes

They suck, sure the calipers are great. The back braks are the reason I say they suck. My bike did not have 200 mil. on it and they where squeaking. Fix get Green pads from Griffen and though in some steel braided lines too.

Handling

Put a 1 liter on a 600 wheel base and make it 100 pounds ligher then 600s 4 years ago and it will handle.

any flat spots etc.NONE. I FIND THAT THE BIKE HAS A LOT OF SPENT GAS COMING OUT THE PIPE AT ALL RPM'S. I KNOW THAT I REMOVED THE SERVO(BUTTERFLY IN STOCK EXHAUST) to install slip on. WOULD THIS CAUSE THIS SPENT GAS PROB? IF ANYBODY HAS A SUGGESTION PLEASE MAIL ME. chrisfleury2001@hotmail.com

Brakes

Feel, Strength not bad. My yamaha r6 had a much better feel. I find the bike shakes when braking hard.

Handling

Good handling. My Girl and I could wheelie an easy mile on the back tire and still be relaxed enough to look arround. The bike has tons of power and helps it corner with ease. No head shakes ever!

Comments

Best bike I've driven. I tried them all. Not a beginers choice unless you dislike yourself. Good fit and finish and lots of storage under that seat. Best bike on the market. It's kick's all the other makes to the curb

Its a 929RR with a bigger bore and higher swing arm.

Carberation

This bike is a 600f4 with serious whellie power. Twist the handle and hang on, cause you are on one tire. It's not quite the GSXR, but it's not a pre-2000 900CBR either.

Brakes

Good braking,especailly on soft tires.

Handling

Handles like a 600 class bike, very light.

Comments

Only drawback is the blacken out frame gets pretty warm on hot days when your not in the wind, so be sure to wear a suit or pants. Since the frame has been pushed up close to your crouch unlike the 929.

Goodridge braided front lines EBC HH Pads Switchable TRE Dealer Mode Switch

Carberation

Very predictable, smooth power delivery, EXTREME amounts of Torque on tap. No flat spots to speak of. The stock fuel map makes for a slightly abrupt throttle response, but the TRE Mod smooths that out along with getting rid of the heavy engine braking. The TRE also gets rid of the 168 MPH Top Speed limit.

Brakes

Braking is acceptable for normal to slightly aggressive street riding, but for the track day goer or daily back road barron an upgrade is in order. During hard braking, you tend to get a bit of fade. A set of braided lines and EBC HH pads have taken care of that. Next on the list is a set of Brembo 4 pad per caliper binders.

Handling

Handling is A-1! Very stable and predictable. Confidence inspiring bike. The front end is a tad soft...Expect to crank down on the preload a bit as well as add in a couple clicks of compression damping.

Comments

Overall I would say the bike is excellent. A few minor things may annoy some people, or keep the tinkerers busy. It has a very long, smooth power delivery as opposed to the brute force short explosions of power from other bikes. I use the bike primarilly as a commuter, but it's more than capable of being a full on race or stunt bike.

My first bike, fuckin awesome, gental upto 6k then it explodes upto 12k revs. Pull from 18 mph in 6th without a murrmah. You get upto some silly speeds very quickly.

Brakes

The brakes could do with more feel but are very strong once applied, I am getting use to them. takes time to learn your bike.

Handling

Better than my standard can test. It has limits I do not think I will reach at present, only been driving 3 weeks. Have not yet got my knee down but not far away.

Ultimate machine. Know your level and you will be fine, but overextend your ability with this type of power and you will end up in a box. Looks great, sounds great, only downside is the insurance. Makes me smile verytime I ride it. Not for wet conditions.

Ive previously owned : 97,98, 2001 blades, 2002 zx12, 2001 busa, amongst others, the thou is the most awesome bike ive ever ridden, it seriously seriously rocks, and any man who claims to be able to tame it on the road is dreaming, it may not have the top nd of the 12 or the busa but 0-170 mph is quicker, and handling, agility make up for that, gold forks look awesome, it can get a little light upfront, just dont shut the throttle when lifting off crests in the road etc and you will be fine, I cant imagine any bike more capable than this. This bike should have enough power for any type of rider, no matter how experienced a rider is. The throttle is sluggish in first gear at low rpm's. This may be decieving b/c once the power kicks in it might be overwhelming for some people.

any flat spots etc. In low revs. in 2nd gear, if throttle is applied suddenly there was a hesitation before kick off. Powercommander solved that.

Brakes

Feel, Strength The braided hoses make a huge difference. Back wheel is lockable very easily, doesn't take too much pressure to kick sideways. Manufacturers should not be allowed put bikes like this on the market without braided hoses as stock!

Handling

Its a big bike and heavy too, but it handles beautifully. I surprised myself by how far you can lean it over without fear that it will slide. I run it with Michelin pilots and they feel like they are glued to the road. Short lifespan however so save money for regular tyre changes.

Comments

Its a great fun bike but when riding it for a while its easy to forget that you are actually doing 80 when you think you are doing 40. Its not fair to talk about specs. from 0 to 60, 'cos it really performs from 100 to 150. Never been in or on a machine that accelerates this fast! The downside is that it is really difficult to behave in 30 mph zones as it feels like the engine is straining all the time to get going.

Just a quick comment for anyone new thinking of riding this bike. Don't. Please. If anything get a 600, and believe me it's more than enough for you. To put it another way (if youre a new rider), if you go into a corner with this bike and give it too much throttle, it will leave you. Its an awesome bike, but learn to ride on a 600 first. Thanks, and ride safe.

I have ridden alot of bikes. As a service tech. you get to ride many diffrent bikes every day, sometimes not because you want to, but because you have to. From the big bore strokers to the XB9 Buells and a few other sport bikes. Nothing compares to my new GSXR 1000. Reliable, violent power if called for. Very, very sweet bike.

All the power you could ever ask for. Fuel injection is spot on except for a slight hesitation below 4k RPM.

Brakes

Brakes are great, two finger pull is all that required to stand her on the nose.

Handling

Suspension isn't sorted out just yet but feeling confident with stock settings.

Had a '95 900RR prior to this one. Been riding the Gixxer for 5 days now and all I can saw is this is one HELL-OF-A-BIKE!! Your never at a loss of power, because it makes it everywhere. Word to the wise, becareful in 1st gear, cuz up she comes with out even trying.

Ive ridden gixxer 750s for near 10 years, wondered what all the hype was about on the 1000s (dont ride, to much power etc). Now i believe it, absoulutely awesome and stonking bike, and yes if your a new rider be very careful...very very careful. Ive been riding 15 years and i love red lines in every gear and i have twice nearly been caught out by the 1000. Never had a prob on the 750...but would now never go back to a 750

Brakes

Front brake is great but my only doubt is the rear, seem to have to really give it a push to get any feel...Compared to the 750 i would say the front brake on the 1000 is better but the back brake not so good.

Handling

Bloody awesome, cornering is unreal as it is so light...Must admit on a 750 you can scream out of a corner but on thw 1000 you have to be careful on the throtle

Comments

Now ive owned one wouldn't ride anything else

Unbelievable power! Had a Honda RC51 and a Suzuki TL1000. There is no comparison in horsepower. The 51 definitely takes corners alot better but on the straight-aways, its not fair!

Brakes

No complaints whatsoever! I did put wave rotors on the front and rear.

Handling

This is my 1st in-line 4. I have had all V-twins (RC51 and TL1000). GSXR handles good, but not like a v-twin.

Comments

The only person that I would put on the GSXR1000 for their 1st bike is my worst enemy! But I would make sure that it is not my bike!

Mods

Hyperpro CSC Steering Damper, Yellow Box speed calibrater, steel-braided brake lines, Power Commander III r, lowering links, 1397 JE Turbo Pistons, Carillo rods; larger fuel pump, oil pump and fuel injectors, Chill Factory turbo system with Mitsubishi Super 20G turbocharger and dump pipe, Ivan's TRE.

Carberation

Yes, my bike is highly modded, but as a stock bike I feel that out of the factory the mixture is set too lean- way too lean. But even so, it is smooth, very tame and driveable until you twist the throttle! Accelleration is constant and high through all gears. I still recommend the $200.00 for a good dyno tuning.

Brakes

Because of the size and weight of the bike, the brakes seem a bit soft; not spongy. They are great all-around for normal riding, but when you need to power brake (from about 20mph), they seem a bit less responsive and need more braking effort. Steel braded lines give you almost instantaneous braking with less effort.

Handling

What can I say! It's a Busa! Even with its long wheelbase and 500+ lbs, it is smooth on the highway and sharp into corners. The stock steering damper is good and smooth, the high rear end makes cornering easier, and you can really enjoy long trips with the aerodynamics keeping the wind off your body. Oh yeah, trash the stock tires! The harder you ride, the less they perform. I ride with Dunlop D208-ZR's

Comments

I realize that I have listed quite a bit of mods. I am building a land speed racer that I hope to take to the Bonneville salt flats. This is my fifth bike and about 3,500 miles of its age is bone stock. I have ridden over 50,000 miles and I can say that I would never purchase any other bike again- other than a Hayabusa. Comfort, styling, fuel economy-around 42mpg, very reliable and effortless speed; very impressive and a great value!!

YOSH RS-3, Frame & swingarm sliders, undertail, flush mount front turn signals, braided steel front brake lines,

Carberation

Pulls good even as low as 2000 rpm cruising around town in 6th gear, the power really starts to come on about 4000 rpm in any gear, no real flat spots just smooth power that gets wicked the longer you hold the gas on.

Brakes

Excellent feel, fades a bit after stopping relly hard a few times.

Handling

fast turning but you better have a good feel for lean angle if your flicking it in really fast, not as easy to set and leave in a turn as the 02 bikes but response is better.

Comments

Around 5500 it starts gettin torquey, below that it is lacking, past 8500 its a monster.

Brakes

Strong, good bite and great progression. Strongest oem brakes I have felt. Bleed screw on master cylinder as well as caliper/Trick shit. Tokiko four piston dual calipers. 320 mm rotors.

Handling

Sharp/turns in quicker than my 02 R6. Stock steering damper helps. Have to be way smooth on throttle coming out of corners. It'll slide out real easy.

Love the bike. Got the black one. More comfortable than I expected. Smaller than my old 600. Instrument cluster is just right with digital speedo and analog tach(I hate digital tachometers),programmable shift light, and my favorite the digital gear indicator. All right, here were go...154.2 SAE rear wheel on our shops(Metro Harley/Suzuki)Dyno-Jet Dynomoter/Out of the box stock). 104 mph in 1st gear, 120 in second, 150 in third, dont know about fourth, 178 in fifth and in 6th..Well, shit, I had to make the upcoming blind right. When I see a trak day I"ll know.
