D&D Show nd Go slip-on can. Sounds mean!
The power on this naked supersport is amazing. There is a flat spot from 1 to 2K RPM, but it is still very powerful. Over 6K, hang on. 9k up is CRAZY! Ivan makes a jet kit to fix the flat spot, but I have not tried it...yet. Roll-on wheelies in first and second gear at low rpm. High rpm wheelies in every gear. Wheelie monster.
The brakes on the FZ1 are the same as the R1. You can stop two of these bikes with the brakes it comes with. Stoppies on command. Very smooth until you grab a handful. I have supreme stopping confidence with these.
Wow. R1 suspension. Holds a line. All you have to do is think where you want to go and you will get there. Two-up riding is great for this type of bike. It just feels a little more plush with a passenger. Still no Goldwing. Complete suspension control. precompression, rebound and damp front and rear.
I have been riding for 12 years and this is the first bike that I am considering keeping for a long time. The power is addictive. The more-upright riding position makes riding more enjoyable for short and long periods. Wind blast could be a problem if you are very sensitive to that sort of thing. The fairing is low, and strong winds will hit your upper chest. Light wind hits me in the head, but no bother. At high speeds, tucking under the wind is easy and comfortable. The huge rear wheel is grippy and compliments the front very well. Can't rate on the durability of the tires, as I only have 650 miles on them. I love this bike. Oh, and the blue ones are faster.
Micron Slip On
With the Slip on, Throttle Response is crisper than stock without any carburetion mods...no real noticeable flat spots.
Strong Strong 1 finger braking...Rear brake is a bit sensitive, locking up the rear very quickly
Excellent handling in light of the upright riding position...although the suspension needs to be dialed in or you can get in trouble with front end dive.
Pretty much everything the magazine reviews say is true about this bike. I'm a 235 lb rider and a weakpoint for me is the suspension, as it is very soft for my riding style and preference, especially at the rear shock. I have noticed too much front end dive allowed even under full pre-load and harder compression damping. Power delivery is silky smooth, good strong engine. Other than my suspension complaints, which probably won't apply to riders in the 140 - 200lb range this bike is the total package for someone looking for the streetfighter ride rather than the full on race-bred litre bikes available.
none , all stock
Has a bog in low rpm (between 1-2) Other than that acceleration is sweet.
Breaks are good. Just dont squeeze 2 hard or you'll do what i did and kick out the front end. resulting in O about $850.00 to fix the plastic.
Great. Bike is heavier than it feels like it is.
I gotta say this is my favorite bike ive owned. Great for wheelies and 2 up riding. Not plannning on getting rid of it anytime soon.

GREAT POWER. USABLE DILIVERY NOT ABRUBT. TWIST AND GOOOO!
Feel, Strength EXCELLANT! I FINGER FRONT ALL THE WAY.
EXCELLANT! SPORTBIKE WORTHEY.
THIS BIKE IS SO SWEET. I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A NEW 2002 FZ1. ALL THE PERFORMANCE OF A SPORTBIKE WITH-OUT THE ARM AND LEG CRAMPS,AND BACK PAIN.

All I can say is WOW. I am still nursing the bike through the engine break in period --- limiting myself to less than 5,000 rpm --- the thing is still amazing .... The power on the interstate is addictive .... 100mph comes so quick
Totally solid
Wants to lean through corners .... it begs to be driven faster through turns.
This is my 4th motorcycle, and I think it may be the bike that I keep for many many years. It is totally versatile --- sporty but with a comfortable riding position.
Micron slip on and lots of cosmetic.
Seems to run lean stock, but good throttle response.
They stop alot better then my nighthawk. I might upgrade to the sinterd hh pad for better feel.
Top notch, I am 165 pounds and have found no need to change any settings. Peg grinding is fun.
First, second, standups and stoppies with little work. I can't stop riding this bike. Must have one in the garage. Oh, this thing is comfortable. No sportbike stance. 600 miles is easy.
Corbin seat and passenger backrest.
Once you hit three grand the power keeps building right up to red line. Brings a smile to my face every time.
Brakes are AWESOME. It's almost as much fun stopping this bike as it is giving it the gas. Never had a bike with brakes this good and this is my seventh bike.
If you make a mistake in a corner, just lean farther. This bike will handle it. Tons of confidence in the corners, silky smooth, just be careful not to give it too much throttle coming out of the corners or you will break loose the rear tire.
I test rode Kawi's, Honda's, Suzi's, Triumph, Harley's, Buell's, and the Yamaha. This is the sweetest bike for the price. Paid $7000 for it. Second choice was the Kawi ZX12R. Great bike but lousy for 2 up riding. Third was the Suzuki Bandit 1200. Nice bike but it isn't in the same league as the FZ1000. The Triumph Trophy was nice but felt like an old Kawi 900 when you got on it. I was not going to pay more than $10,000.00 for a bike that had the acceleration of a 20 year old bike. I have received many compliments from my Harley riding friends on the looks of this bike. It is a real head turner. Get the Corbin seat (it is a great seat) and hours of riding are a piece of cake. As for the wind blast everyone complains about, if you don't want to feel the wind, drive a car!
Harris slip on
Relative bog at 1-2k rpm, due to the slip on. I understand that a jet kit would fix that.
Stop on a dime. No pressure needed for the front. The rear might be to much.
Feels like a much smaller bike. I am at 240lb and the suspension does feel softer than I would like. I am goint to get the shock and forks redone.
Just an all around beautiful bike. Second one big bike I've owned and it definetely feels like there is always something in reserve. Much better bike than I deserve.
Renthal bars, Streetfighter screen, R1 foot pegs, removed centerstand.
nice & powerful, no noticeable flat spots (who rides a bike at 1yo 2k of revs?) plenty of torque. for best wheelies: 30mph in 1st, snap the throttle open & up she comes, blip for 2nd 3rd fourth etc.
Plenty strong enough, a touch of fade on trackdays & not enough initial bite for my taste. but not a problem on the road - just a bit more civilised than I am used too
Rear shock is too soft. I way 12stone & it needed a stiffer spring (65 for a k-tech unit). I find it holds a much better line on the exit now & doesn't bog down when hard on the power. it's too soft for a proper track tool (obviously) but on the road with the crapy surfaces we have in the UK even pals on gsxr1000 are scared of the humiliation I can inflict on there "sportsbikes" ;)
if you are secure in your manhood & don't need a fairing to be fast - this IS the kiddie. Only other mod I'll do is put on a high level road exhaust. sometimes I need more ground clearance (hence the r1 foot pegs) but the power level is plenty for non race applications - anyone who thinks otherwise needs to learn to carry more corner speed ;)
Micron High Mount Slip-On 15 tooth sprocket Ivan's Jet Kit Suburban Bars and GYT-R low risers
Smooth exceleration to about 6500 rpm, then tremendous power increase through 10500 rpm. The jet kit smoothed the power band to a more ridable state.
Front brake works magnificently. The back brake, however, seems a little weak.
I've had no problems keeping up with the GSXR's or the R1's on the curves. Shakes a little on tight turns but manageable.
This is a beautiful bike and extremely comfy on extended rides.
List the modifications on this bike LOTS>>>>>>>>>>>> The best one is the 48t and 15t sprocets slows her down but still does 240 k/ph

Great Power. Throttle is smooth above 2k (though who cares about below that)
Awesome front, thought the rear is too sensitive.
Really good, loves the twisties.
Never ridden a 'true' litre bike, but I've yet to find one faster than me on the street; even after I've already crossed 2 state lines that day....;)
Yamaha GYT-R slip on can & larger Yamaha FZ1 windscreen.
More than enough power is available for passing when you roll on the throttle. Carburetion seems spot on.
Confidence inspiring. Yamaha did not skimp in the brake spec on this bike. One finger braking is easily achieved.
Very stable handling, almost to a fault.
I've been nothing but impressed with this bike. It has turned out to be exactly the bike I was looking/hoping for when I bought it, with lots of power, great handling, good looks, and comfort to boot. Long days in the saddle are easily accomplished, as this bike can be set up to be a very competent sport tourer, with the emphasis on sport. I can see putting 100K+ miles on this bike.
No performance modifications. Added SW-Motech AluRack luggage rack and a Givi E360 trunk, but I normally ride without the trunk.
I use the choke to start it, but only have to run it choked for a few seconds. Slightly rough idle, but not bad. I don't feel any flat spots in acceleration. Over about 2000 rpm, acceleration is immediate. In high gear at 70 mph (about 4500 rpm), twist the throttle and you're doing 90. From a standing start to 60 mph, you get that "going downhill on a rollercoaster" rush.
The brakes are better than I am. I commute in Houston traffic (I-10) and on occasion have had to haul it down pretty quickly. No problems whatsoever, and there are no unwelcomed surprises with the brakes.
Sticks to the pavement. Freeway traffic is less scary on this bike than it is in a car.
I'm really glad I bought this bike. It has more power than I could ever use, handles instinctively and flawlessly, and it comfortable to boot! Who could ask for more? It is exactly right for my purposes, and surpasses my needs by a wide margin. See my website for photos and more information.
Upgraded suspension (California Suspension Works), jet kit (Holeshot), 15t front sprocket.
Mine was good stock, but I added the jet kit anyway. Made the power delivery even smoother and added some extra pull.
Absolutely excellent stock brakes (same as R1). I have not felt any need to modify or upgrade.
The stock suspension is fully adjustable but a little soft for a heavy rider. I weigh 215+ with gear and upgraded the suspension. I ride hard in the twisties and can stay with sportbikes no problem. For a big bike the handling is excellent.
This bike is durable and with 39,000 miles there have been no problems. Valve check is every 26,000 miles and they were OK at first check. Plenty of power for any type of riding. Engine vibes are not a problem on mine. I often do 300-400 miles in a day and the bike is fine for longer rides. The headlights are excellent.
tail bag and sliders-carbonfirber tank protector do't touch the power you'll just f&&& it up
hang on, crack the gas at 77 in 1st its up and over if your not carful, shift in to 2nd and at 88 same as first.
braking is great . maybe a little slugguish in the rear
wow nothing like it at 379 lbs. 180bhp its a dream
this is my 39th bike, and the only one that I just can't keep off from. YAMAHA to day is the day""""
No mods. IMHO none necessary.
Power is well balanced. It comes on hard and fast when you need it but is easily controlled through the excellent carbs. It builds steadily to seven thousand rpms and then rockets to 10000. Bottom line a very exciting motor.
The brakes inspire confidence. Good bite with a just a little numbness. I've hauled it down in a couple of fast stop situations with one finger and a little bit of toe to the rear. Some say the rear is too touchy, but I haven't found that at all. It's not the brake, it's the rider.
No doubt it's a big bike, but with that in mind, it handles very well. The fully adjustable suspension takes just a little tweaking. I haven't touched the factory rear shock settings, but have fiddled with the front a couple of times. Now it takes corners very well no matter the road surface.
The FZ1 is a great bike. It's not a Gixxer, and it's not a cruiser, but it has the best of both wrapped up in an all around star. You can ride it for hundreds of miles but it will do nice wheelies too. It's very forgiving at speed, which is good, because speed is always available, and you won't be holding anyone up on a ride. Check out the FZ1 Owners Association web site for more.
NONE. no need
3-4k dips a little. but after that, hold on. smooth as butter
great brakes, front and rear. although anything would be better than my 1975 z1 stock brakes(SIX FINGER BRAKES).
Lean and go this bikes knows where you want to go and does it on the double. stable on rough Cincinnati terrain. This bike thinks it's a unicycle. It is always trying to ride on the rear wheel.
I have been riding for 14 years /over 100,000 miles and have owned all vintage hondas and Kawasakis so far. I have been dreaming of one day owning a bike just like this. I was set on the zrx12r but one ride on this baby and my 6 year dream instantly changed. An 01 with 6200 miles for $4200 I couldn't afford it but I also couldn't resist. I am glad I bought "yamzilla". I hope to have it a very long time. good show yamaha.
none
The bike has two distinct personalities. 1. very easy to ride smooth power to about 6k 2. Holy !@#% above 6k. The power just keeps coming.
very very strong, easy smooth braking will stop you in any situation.
Feels light & flickable, holds any line. It loves twisty windy roads! I am 170lbs and the stock suspention works great.
this is my first street bike in many years. I have been activly riding late model dirt bikes. Everything I read said this was the right bike...It is! Very easy to ride, does everything effortlessly including leaving everything on the road behind. If the wind shield were just a little taller it wood deflect some more of the wind pressure in the chest area above 75mph.
everything still stock
totally a good handling bike! my weight is 96kilos it goes good on corners,i can still keep up with the fz cousin = R1.
front brakes are good as said it similar to the r1's. i did an emergency bake while accelerating to 140 km,lean my body back and it did a good job.seldom uses the back brake.
i ride to the rurals here in brunei, and there are only 2 seasons here rain and dry season.well when it rains this bike still handles good.did a ride to sabah which is a 100+ km ride one way and the only complaint is my butt feels sore.well it was raining then did corners at 140km and straight lines at 160km still handles good!just fitted it with Metzeler Z6 tires and the handling is more awesome! this bike is totally addictive!.
this bike is awesome don't know about the 2006 fz1.i like the easygoing riding position and the secret engine under it. overall it has a racing heart but the streetfighter looks.
None
There is a flat spot right off the start, like what the others have said. Between about 7000rpm and 11000rpm the front end will become light because of all the power it's pushing, not a bad thing in my opinion.
Brakes are awesome. I have had some close calls in traffic and had to brake quite hard and they really do the job fantastically.
Sportbike handling all the way. I've dragged the pegs on this bike and didn't feel an ounce of instability. I've also had this bike up to atleast 130mph and it's like glass. I also know a guy that has had his 2002 up to about 175-180mph and says that it's just as smooth at those speeds.
I highly recommend this bike to just about anyone. If you want a sportbike, without the hand cramps and lower back pain, than this is the bike for you. I've run with other liter bikes, such as GSXR1000 and CBR1000RR, and even though they are tuned more for the track than real world driving, the FZ1 runs with them in most aspects except top end, which you will never be able to compare anyway. And when I say except top end, it is not a drastic difference.
