Yosh Slip-On, Metzler MEZ1 Tires one size larger than stock.

Carburetion

Hesitation off Idle. Needs minor jet work. Maybe just shim the needles. Nice top end rush. Faster than you think. Dusted some major bikes from light to light.

Handling

Great in transitions. This bike feels light and narrow. New tires make for much better stability over stock. Ran about 50 laps at Mid-Ohio. I was definitely the limiting factor on the track performance. Get the wider tires with a more round profile. Bridgestone BT56 or Metzler MEZ1 both work well.

Comments

I couldn't have asked for a better first sportbike. Not very comfortable but quick and easy to learn on. Paid 4200.00 (slightly used 480 miles) and sold 3 years later for 3800.00 If your a smaller rider and on a budget. This is your bike.

Yoshi Slip on, stage 1 jet kit.

Carberation

It dosn't like to be cold, It bucks as low constant speed (below 15-20MPH), running carb cleaner in the tank once in a while seems to help. Not much power below 6000rpm, buft will pull hard from 6000-13000 with out any problem.

Brakes

Brakes are great, Just the rear brake may stop a little too easy, It will lock up the tire very easy.

Handling

Very stable, just start to get head shake above 125MPH, that could be because of the age and mileage. plus I purchased it right after it was low sided,

Comments

The one bad thing that I've heard alot and experenced on this bike is the Votage/Rec is not made very well and been the cause of many battey problems. ($110 to replace) I also has an clunchy transmission but from what I've found out about it thats normal for that bike.

Vance & Hines SSII.

Carberation

For a 1991, with 35,000 miles, you can beat it's ability. It lacks a little on the low-end but will still run great top speeds.

Brakes

Great breaks at low speeds. When at top speed the brakes fade fast in a hard stop.

Handling

Great bike for the twisties. Bike is very light compared to the big boys. The bike wil go here ever you want it to go.

Comments

WOW! What can you say about a bike that led the 600cc revolution where it is today? This bike was the first sport bike replicated from the GP bikes of it's time. The FZR was not designed to be comfortable, it was designed to be raced. It was not designed to be pretty, it was designed to make you look and feel like a racer. If you want a great bike for the lefts and rights with good high speed and plenty of muscle getting there, then this is the bike for you. Plus, you can't beat the price... Depending on age, they go from $2500 to $5000.

SS2R pipe, Metzler ME Z1 front tire

Carberation

Below 3K the engine is a bit weak, therefore making low speed riding a bit rough.

Brakes

Great breaks untill the speed gets really high. Coming off the highway the fronts fade rather quickly. The backs like to lock up but offer fair feedback before so.

Handling

Simply fantastic, I can out carve my friend's CBR F2 with ease.

Comments

This bike demands high revs but after 6K it's in the zone. At high speed (125+) it's super stable and around town, besides the lack of power, it's a blast. The perfect build up to an R6.

Factory Jet Kit, BT56 ss tires (150 rear), Targa 2nd seat cowling, custom graphics, gutted stock exhaust

Carberation

Power is a bit lacking in the 3-6k range, the stage 1 jet kit helped slightly, but from about 7-8k on the power just builds.

Brakes

Excellent braking capabilities, only slight fade under very hard stopping... aftermarket pads would probably fix that.

Handling

Wow. For a bike that hasn't been redesigned since 94' the handling is phenomenal. The limiting factor is definatly my riding abilities. The only downfall of the bike is the soft front end and lack of adjustment in the rear suspension. Race Tech is fixing that this winter though!!

Comments

This bike was a steal in 2001 at $4k with only 2000 miles on it and no modifications. The biggest improvement was the new rubber. Currently working to fix the suspension problems with Rach Tech Gold emulators and springs in the front and a Fox Twin-Clicker rear shock.

Battlax BT-56 SS front and back, Progressive fork springs, Barnett clutch plates and springs, SBS brake pads (front only), Factory shift kit, stage 1 jet kit, pod filters, and a number of other misc. upgrades.

Carberation

Great power delivery and sound carburetion. Yamaha is known for their smooth acceleration and the Fzr 600 is no exception. This bike has enough power to get anyone into trouble.

Brakes

Not as strong as I normally like but it does its job. Brakes fade a bit under heavy use but other than that see mto be okay.

Handling

Wonderful handling (especially after I added the Progressive fork springs). Carves through the twisties like an R6. This bike was made for racing so with a little tweaking you can have the perfect bike.

Comments

Great bike, Yamaha really did their job with this one. You can pick them up for fairly cheap as well, anywhere from 2,000 to 5,000 will get you a good bike. Also this bike is good for a novice rider.

Stock standard condition

Carberation

Surprisingly good power from a bike of this age, especially at the top end. Down low was occasionally a bit wanting, but you can't have everything.

Brakes

Brakes were fine, front ones were prone to squealing but otherwise very good.

Handling

Brilliant handling even in stock form. I'm not a heavyweight so the set up was fine for me. Very occasional head shake on some less than smooth Australian roads, but nothing serious.

Comments

Overall a great sports bike. Vibration became tiring on longer hauls and caused the odd bolt to come undone. Occasional starting hiccups would see it run on 3 (or less)cylinders for a couple of kms, never really got to the bottom of why. Recurring stator problems saw one replacement fitted. Seeing as the bike was used for commuting, some touring as well as scratching/track days over the 3 years I had it I have no major complaints. I've sold it now.

Gear box is a clanky but with no real operational problems. Bucks a little under 2-3k RPM; 6k RPM and above the bike is pure pleasure.

Brakes

No complaints so far - the front brakes squeak a little occasionally.

Handling

All stock handles great. I might contemplate a wider rear tire at some point.

Brakes

Feel, Strength brakes are ok but seems to fade quickly at high speed, heavy breaking.

Handling

Feels light and agile without being nervous. Comfortable in steep lean angles. Very basic bike not a lot of 'comforts' noisy gearbox and can be a little gerky in low speed situations. Stable at high speeds (I've had mine to 145)

Lockhart Phillips Stuff: Dark Smoke Windscreen, Carbon Fiber Flush Mount Turn Signals Front & Rear, Carbon Fiber Gas Cap Cover, Carbon Fiber Gauge Overlay. Rear Frender Shaved off. Battleaxe Tires Front & Rear.

Carberation

Power Stock is a little slow going through the gears. I would recommend putting on sprocket, then you can really notice the bike pull right throught the gears hard. Carbs need a little ajustment. Starts Pulling hard from 75-145 MPH.

Brakes

Braking is good at lower speeds under 75 MPH, higher speeds braking can be scarey sometimes. DOn't Panick.

Handling

Bike handles great throught twisties, great handling over-all.

FZR-600 is a great starter bike I would highly recommend it to anyone starting out. It is a perfect starter bike.

Mods

Uni air filter, dark smoke Zero Gravity windshield, Bridgestone Bt-010 front and rear (150 wide), H4 lightbulbs, otherwise, bone-stock.

Carberation

Makes a decent 80 hp which is decent for a 390 pound bike. Bike tends to buck at low revs. Excellent power surge around 6000 rpm that keeps on until 10 000 rpm. Got up to 150 mph on a cool crisp night, wich is rather fast for a 600cc.

Brakes

Brakes give good feeling and are adequate for this bike.

Handling

Handling is this bike's strenght. You can throw any curve at it and it will lean easily and keep up with more expensive bikes any time. Make sure you go for a good set of tires with sport compound (Bridgestones BT-010 where excellent) and a rear tire that's 150 wide, rather than the stock 140.

Comments

An excellent first buy. Strong points : handling, build quality and reliability, price, overall useability. Weak points : clutch started slipping when engine is cold, 18 inch rear tire availability, a little low on torque (reportedly 45 pd/sqft). Looks are distinctive, especially if you get the model with 2 round lights that give it a "caf racer" style and reveals it's true racing nature. You will get respect from knowledgeable riders, if not from your average poseur with a bike-of-the-year... Enjoy.

Full D+D exhaust, custom solo race tail, jetted and tuned, sprockets, carbon mirrors, levers, polished heel guards, fork sliders, gas trim ring, engine covers.

Carberation

Slight dead area around 4.5-5k, mostly under mild acceleration, but have gotten smooth predictable power since last carb rebuild due to correct shim placement.

Brakes

High speed braking with confidence, has handled panic stops with no problems, but rear will get light under heavy braking.

Handling

Will hold a line well in the curves, even with the light weight, and has never shaken me off, but heavier fork springs will greatly reduce the front diving under braking.

Comments

Best bike ever for the money. I own several bikes, including a 2003 BMW, but can always be seen on the Fizzer. Small, nimble, light, quick and cheap. Might not beat any new 600's in a drag race, but you'll enjoy new gear with the money you save.

Vance and Hines full exhaust, 13 tooth sprocket

Carberation

Ive noticed what everyone else has, lower power at lower rpms. But hey, throw a 13 tooth sprocket on and watch out any R6's in my way. Above 6k rpms is where i really wish i had the 15 tooth. This bike screams up to its 10.5k rpm redline. Try not to smile too much, takes away concentration at these speeds.

Brakes

Fades a bit at high speeds. But all in all, not too bad. A bit creepy trying to stop for lights when cops are around and your doing 70.

Handling

AMAZING!! This bike is one of the best handling bikes ive ever ridden. It cuts through corners like none other. Insane leaning is way more fun than i ever thought it could be.

Comments

Great freking bike. Only problem is that it tends to go through plugs like nothing else. Nothing a little sand paper cant fix. This is my second bike (first being a 73 CB450) and even with the slightly higer miles, this bike feels like it will go for ever. Great bike for the price, in my opinion a way better bike than the R6 for the price.

Brakes

Good, definatly could be good with some upgrades

Handling

Great, not a heavy bike by any means, the wider and stickier tire definatly helped with my confidence when leaning this bike into a corner.

Carberation

considering the age and mileage i feel the bike has good low and top end power. i'm not too fond of the bucking at low speeds (under 15 mph) ive ridden lots of bikes but this is my first bike ive owned and its definitely a keeper.

Brakes

braking is good except for the bike wanting to take a dive under hard front braking. i hardle use my rear brakes.

Handling

the bike is so well balanced that handling is superp. i couldnt ask for anything better. especially since the tires are so undersized compared to newer sport bikes.

I have a 92 fzr 600.I bought it while it was still bone stock w/9000 miles.Since though I have removed the emissions crap, put a kn filter & jets. I wrode a few months and was really happy, but I wanted more of a GP look so after my nabor ran into my bike I was forced to order new body work. I ordered stock (race) front & sides and a TZ250 solo tail. I then cut off the "non"removable subframe and made a new one that is removable and slightly skinier.for lights I put a skinny rectangle head light and a led brake light.I then mounted 03 gsxr600 foot controls and front brake res & lever.overall I have lightened the bike almost a full 58lbs.

Brakes

The brakes are responsive enough, but not really 'grabby'. They've gotten me out of a couple of tight spots on road trips.

Handling

Handling is excellent, I've never really had any problems after I switched from the stock tires..the stock size seemed to 'run out of tire' before the bike was ready to give up.

Carberation

Power is pretty good, but doesn't really scream until past 7000rpm. Below that, it's a little slow and stutters below 3000k.

Brakes

Braking is pretty good, but better the EBC pads and steel-braided lines.

Handling

with a 110/70 up front and 150/60 rear, it's pretty flickable. Only problem, zero suspension adjustments. That right there should make you want a CBR of the same year.

Comments

If i could go back, i'd buy a CBR. The suspension adjustabilty on the CBR makes it a better bike. I put on a R6 tail and that really updated the look of the bike. Horsepower could use a little bump, but for a first bike, it works.

not fast at all compared to todays bikes. I didnt really notice any flat spots when i had it stock. The power delivery was smooth all the way around but very sluggish under 8500 rpm. Take off always required a few extra revs to get a smooth start. On and off throttle was pretty smooth and predictable even at high revs.

Brakes

The brakes needed alot of tlc. It definantly worked around town but for high speed riding (track) it needs help. The brakes responded quikly to input but without alot of power.

Handling

Very nice. Extremely confidence inspiring. The seating position is extreme enough for hard riding and more fogivable on the street compared to todays bikes. The suspension is mushy yet works well around town and still inspires confidence until metal and body parts scrape around corners at triple digit speeds. It steers lighter than it actually is.

Comments

I love this bike. Nothing like handing a $ 30,000 ohlins everything and carbon fiber everything else Ducati rider his ass @ the track. All for under $5000! This bike gave me a new perspective on sport motorcycling. Modifications are fairly cheap and easy to do. A little tlc goes a long way on this bike. It has issues that need immediate attention, but so do i.

Kerker Carbon Fibre Exhaust Silencer on Kerker header

Carberation

Myn wouldn't pull the front wheel without using the clutch, which was dissapointing after stepping off my Yamaha RD 350, but 80 km/h in first gear was impressive. Stronge in high revs but my clutch would slip under too much load, but with the Kerker she was LOUD!

Brakes

Braking was powerfull, my front end dove a ton when appling the fronts, possibly the forks where low on oil, that would give the explanation of why im limping and have a mucked up FZR sitting in the garage.

Handling

I bought it with a tall tire, which gave it a very nervouse feel in corners, especially higher speed ones, tires make or break these types of bikes.

Comments

Excelent power, very uncomfortable for long rides, but it wasnt built to go cross country, very light nimble feel, and a great ride when set up properly, great bang for the buck, untill you call the insurance company that is...

Carberation

not much bottom end, picks up 6000, flyes 8000 to just over 10000,

Brakes

exellent front, back locks up a little too easy. feel is damb good for the age of the bike. r1&r6 blue spot calipers fit.

Handling

absolutly no problems at all, live in the forest and kept up with the modern bikes no worries. r6 rear shocks fit.

Comments

er.. saying all that my second gear failed and cost 420 to fix and 3 days after i got it back it threw a conrod and wrote off the engine. still have the bike tho.
