Mods

15 tooth front sprocket, flush mount front signals, short stalk rear signals, hacked off rear fender, Vance & Hines SS4 Ti, 7mm of fork tube above clip-ons.

Carberation

Pretty smooth overall, excellent power that's easy to handle on the backroads however lacks alittle mid range but who cares.

Brakes

Great on the street both front and back, just grip the lever on the outer side rather than near the apex of the handle.

Handling

Better than the average riders on the road.

Comments

I love this bike, it handles great stock but I am looking to do some work on the forks and possibly an Ohlins rear shock.

Mods

license plate holder off, flush turn signals, Carbon Fibre Akrapovics slip on, Zero Gravity smoked screen.

Carberation

low end flat with original exhaust. crazy power after 6-7k and up. Bike begs to be revved. Strech the gear till 13k and then, only then , gear up.

Brakes

Awesome binders. You demand, they perform. Braking limit only in your fingers.

Handling

Noble chassis. 200% predictable,it forgives to the max. turning, braking, a deligth. Rarely a little headshake under super hard acceleration.

Comments

Balance to the maximum. thats the name of the game in supersports bikes. Ill kick R1 and 929 asses in the twisties any time. maybe they will make up in the open, but only maybe.

Mods

Aftermarket parts includes a M.Toby steering damper kit to calm the front end, flushed front & rear blinkers, bar & fairing sliders, PowerBronze red tinted double bubble screen & light protectors, yoke & tank protectors, CNC machined alloy paddock knobs & Bagster color coded leather seat covers. I'll be installing Factory Pro's ignition advancing rotor kit & K&N air filtercharger kit soon. Getting Factory Pro's billet engine covers too. Lastly, b'cos I actually use my R6 for long distance touring, I'm thinking of getting a Scottoiler auto chain lube kit too. Hhmm...

Carberation

All-round smooth power delivery, though after installing the ignition advancer, should see a more eager response at low-mid rev ranges.

Brakes

Braking feels very well modulated & offers a good initial bite.

Handling

Very agile, turns on a dime. But in cases of high speed corners on rather bumpy roads can cause the front end to shake. Which is why I fixed a steering damper. :-)

M4 stainless slipon, silkolene full sinthetic, emgo high flow oil filter, k&n, fender completely gone (tag just dangels), no mirrors, blinkers, passenger pegs, horn, rear brake switch, or kickstand switch, and all uneccessary bracketry, steel braided lines with race pads.

Carberation

Power is awsome when it hits 9,000. NO OTHER 600 WILL EVEN ATTEMPT TO KEEP UP!! Had bad sputter at mid range. K&n fixed it. With only M4 slipon (no k&n, no silkolene and a wore out back tire) the bike made 102 horsepower with a very dirty filter and with 22,500 miles on it!!!! (I can't wait to dyno it with changes!!!!!!!)

Brakes

The brakes are utterly awsome. One finger is all you need!

Handling

Ther is no other!! I think turn and I'm turning. Suspension is awsome. Been set up once, gonna have to change it(skills have improved). Race tech front, Fox Shock, maybe ohlins.

Comments

I have ridden all the 600s and nothing compares. The only reason I would sell is to get a 2002!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yoshimura TRS Race slip-on, Front clear flush mounts, rear fender eliminator kit with clear short stalks, K&N air filter, Factory ignition advancer and Factory jet kit with #40 jets.

Carberation

Stock bike had a flat spot between 4 to 6 rpm's. Jet kit fixed that. Bike is like a woman. It needs warmed up awhile before you get on it! After that you will wear out before it will. As far as power goes, I have had to check my shorts a couple of times!

Brakes

Great brakes, saved my life a few times.

Handling

Excellent handling. Only other good R6 riders can keep up in the S's!

Comments

Can't wait to change sprocket. Of course it will be another unfair advantage to other bikes(he,he). What can I say,it is a beast needing set free. It even out does the CBR F4i and mine is carburated. Just imagine what the all new efi R6 will do!

Brakes

Plenty of braking power. But I wouldn't mind some braded lines and race pads. thats comeing up next.

Handling

I used to own an SV650, among other bikes. I know what handleing is. And this bike tops all the current 600's. Quik and lite turn in's. feels like a bicycle.

Comments

I have rode every new Japanese Sportbike on the market. The R6 has all the trates that I wanted in a bike. Agressive seating , Great exceleration, Looks great, very light and slim feeling, very flickable. And wheelies are a blast on it. All it needs is a steering damper for its lite front-end.

Ohlins Top-Mount Steering Damper Frame Sliders Swing Arm Sliders Custom (smallest i can come up with) license plate holder Flushmount Rear Signal Lights Clear Tank Protector On the way: Akrapovic Titanium Slip-On Exhaust Pipe

Carberation

Ever so slight and very negligible hesitation below 3,500 RPM that'll most likely disappear after putting on the Akrapovic pipe. Very powerful tug on all gears all the way to around 14,000 RPM (with 1,500 RPM more to work with due to the 15,500 RPM redline)

Brakes

Great stopping power but would be perfect after upgrading to steel-braided brake lines.

Handling

Ooooh-La-La!!! The R6 slices and dices through most anything thrown its way and it'll allow you to take on twisty roads like you've never done before. My friends keep telling me i've become a better and faster rider through our weekly canyon carving but i tell them each time ... it's not me, it's the bike.

Comments

Sections that are not here but are decision criteria: LOOKS ... the sexiness factor alone of this bike is enough to make it win over any other bike in the market today. FEATURES ... built-in rear hugger, body-color painted undertray, clock, 2 trip meters, fully adjustable good quality shocks (both front and rear) and it's race-ready straight out of the crate! ERGONOMICS ... despite looking like a full-on race bike in stock form, the R6 is surprisingly comfortable enough even for 3-5 hour rides. FUN FACTOR ... pardon the cliche but this bike makes you feel like a hero. Or a super hero, even. It effectively delivers the goods whether you're a racer or a poser. it'll help you go fast both in the straight and on twisty roads if that's what the situation calls for and it'll make you the center of attraction on bike-week nights at your local Starbucks cafe if that matters to you.

I put a Micron slip-on on a few weeks after I got it. Cosmetics include smoked windscreen, carbon fiber stuff, fender eliminator, and crash pads (a must have item).

Carberation

This thing makes some sick power. Carburetion is smooth and quick to respond when you snap the throttle open. Wind it up past 6000 RPM, and you cant help but grin like a fool.

Brakes

Its the braking on this bike that has gotten me out of some bad situations. (I hate deer) Braking is solid and strong. You dont have to squeeze the brake lever very hard, and you get some great braking. It beats the hell out of a CBR 900RR that I have ridden.

Handling

Smooth, quick, lite, all in all very great handling. This is a great bike for blasting the twisties.

Comments

I love this bike. I have ridden the 2002 ZX6R(my brothers) and 2002 GSXR600 as well as a 2000 GSXR600(my dads) and a 1998 CBR 900RR, and none of them are comparable. My dad and my brother have both ridden my bike, and the first comment they both had when they got off my R6 was "God Damn that thing is quick." The R6 is the best. Enough said.

Stock engine and chassy Michelin Pilot Sport tires

Carberation

This bike could be likened to a 125cc motocross bike on steroids. The bike has little bottom end to speak of, in fact, it actually has a little hesitation. I'm fairly confident however, that a jet kit will eliminate this problem. The flat spot at low RPMs, albiet still a problem, is hardly noticed though at regular riding. After about 7000 RPMs, the bike rips. Which is why I compared it to a 125 dirtbike, which reacts the same way. Once the powerband kicks in, it's a whole new bike, and it makes tons of snappy, high-revving power. No complaints in the poney department.

Brakes

Superb feel, with easily the best brakes I've ever had. One finger braking is the norm, and wheel stands are but a squeeze away. Definetly the class leading brakes - I've ridden ZX6s, GSXRs, and a YZF600R.

Handling

Great handling, but comes with tires that hate the bike. The bikes steep rake allows for sharp corners, but long sweepers and straights are still extremely stable. The bike will also hold a line very well, and doesn't tend to dance around on the exit of corners. However, like I said, the Dunlops that come stock are crap - no question. The almost 'bounce' in and out of corners, and you may as well slide the rear end around corners instead of trying to grip. Basically, these tires are "Slicks" with tread, and I don't mean the racing kind of slicks either.

Comments

Great overall bike. At home on the twisty backroads, and works as a decent commuter bike. The riding position is just relaxed enough for longer rides, but you can also still tuck down and lean it over. More comfortable than the GSXR or ZX 6, but still allows for sport racing. In fact, the stablity of the bike actually makes you want to go faster, even though the GSXR is more 'racy'. Now, if commuting is the primary use for the bike, I would suggest the YZF600R, as the riding position is a little less aggressive. This translates into a much longer riding deration, and it is also much easier for 'two-up' riding. Yet, the R6 manages to turn more heads, attract more women, and it is definetly more fun to ride.

Carberation

Very smooth power, with a big rush after 9,000 rpm. Stock system actually very good, although nothing much happens below 6,000. Akrapovic has helped mid-range, and the sound is great!

Brakes

Superb. Need nothing more than one finger. Easy to stop in a hurry; new people to bike can easily send themselves over the front due to the fantastic stopping power. Nice feel back to the clip ons. For racing, I suppose braided lines would be a logical addition

Handling

Wow! Think and it turns. Especially good once speed gets turned up a bit. Only at slow speeds is it less than telepathic. I will replace stock tires in the next month and will get either Michelin Pilot Sports or Pirelli Corsas; stock Dunlops are not that good.

Comments

A truly great bike. And the 2003/04 is even better, as is the 2003 ZX-6R and the CBR600RR. Amazing what these bikes can do. To be fair, I do not really push this bike since I have not gone to any track days. But for street riding, it is still a huge amount of fun. It is so well mannered in the city while trying to escape to less crowded roads. Once you get to the twisties, oh my.....

Carberation

Great bike for slow wheelies and showing of for the bitches

Brakes

Feel, Strength, not to good for my stoppies

Handling

very tight on cornering and agile. Awsume

Comments

I bought this bike because is wanted a different bike for stunts but ended up liking it more than my Ninja. If someone was wanting a good bike to learn on it would be a good choose because you can get them pretty cheap and it still handles great

Mods

Bitubo steering damper, otherwise everything is stock.

Carberation

Bit flat and unpredictable when pulling from a stop. Once you get going it is smooth and easy to control. Open it up and it just keeps accelerating.

Brakes

Good strong brakes, but don't feel as strong as my CBR600. There is braking power there, but I have to put in more effort to get it.

Handling

Turns in really quickly, but rear has a tendency to go wide. Can slide the back around for sharp turns - behaves nice and predictably while sliding the back. Can be very badly behaved under heavy braking - bike feels like it wants to fold in half; steering damper made a huge difference to overall stability, but especially under heavy braking.

Comments

Very nimble little beast, will go as fast you want. Lots of fun. Stock screen is a bit small, but otherwise far more comfortable than it looks. Stock Dunlop tyres are the worst tyres I've ever had the misfortune to have on a motorcycle.

Mods

15\50 520 chain conversion, two bros. racing slip on, huge industries short stalk blinkers & fender eliminator, synthetic oil every oil change, memphis shades black to smoke fade windscreen, factory jet kit.

Carberation

Noticeable flat spot around 5000 rpm, but once you get past that it's balls to the wall.

Brakes

Great feel and bite. They do what they're supposed to do - stop you without fading.

Handling

After setting up the suspension for my weight, the ride was a little harsh but well worth the added handling. Turns good out of the box, carves like a dream after setting it up to your riding style and weight.

Comments

I've had this bike for 4 years, and many people say that you'll outgrow a 600 within a year. The people that say that and buy themselves a literbike either don't know how to ride a bike to it's potential (you'll never do it on the street), or are squids trying to show off to their friends. If you buy an r6, learn how to ride it correctly, and set it up right, you'll never need anything bigger. Happy riding!

Mods

Bone stock. First thing to go will be the license plate bracket and stock turn signals. I'm happy enough with the stock performance that I don't feel the need to install a slip-on or any other mods. I like the quiet sound of the stock pipe over more throaty, noisy aftermarket ones... Keeps a lower profile on the streets (less police attention) and pisses off less people late at night. Pulling up in front of my girlfriend's house at 2AM won't wake her parents :)

Carberation

Extremely smooth delivery - gotta love fuel injection! At first, maneuvering in first gear at slow speeds was a little jumpy, but I got used to it quickly. This is my second bike, first without carbs - learned on a '94 CBR600F2. Once you make the step up to fuel injected, it's hard to go back to a carbureted bike.

Brakes

No complaints. Excellent, smooth feel and enough braking power for most any situation with minimal input. I bounced a deer off my front tire two weeks ago and have the brakes to thank for helping me to stay up. I was able to slow down from 50 to 25 at the point of impact in less than 50 feet. Good brakes (and good luck)!

Handling

I can throw the R6 into turns almost without worry. I find myself taking curves faster than I ever have with other bikes. Right now I'm finally learning to wheelie, and it's mind-numbingly easy to do - one of the lightest 600's out there. Sooner or later I'll figure out how to shift gears and keep it up there for a while.

Comments

One of the first quirks I found with the '04 R6 is that your throttle hand can bind up with the fuel tank when taking right turns at slow speeds. I nearly dropped it in a parking lot when I figured that out for the first time - luckily I put my foot down and avoided embarassment & shame. Riding position is a bit more aggressive than for touring or long-distance commuting, but the stock seat is much more comfortable than the CBR600RR or GSXR-600. I've taken the R6 on a nonstop 5-hour ride from Eastern PA to Upstate NY and it wasn't overly uncomfortable. I did have to sit on my leg at one point for a couple minutes halfway through the ride to give my ass some bloodflow, but after that, it was smooth sailing til the end. Overall, the nicest bike I've yet ridden. I don't think I'll ever need a bigger bike.

Mods

List the modifications on this bike Rear fender was easily modified and plate moved up to show off that sexy back end. Smaller blinkers all the way around. Stage 1 jet kit w/slip on titanium akropovic pipe.

Carberation

Great after the jet kit and pipe. Power comes on clean(though still a little weak compared to big brother) from 4 grand. Noticeable "bog" below four.(Hey it's a 600) Power through mid-range and to the top is great. Pipe and jet really smoothed out the power delivery.

Brakes

Good progressive feel. Good inital bite and feels confident trail braking into the corners.

Handling

Front feels a little vague and light after rolling on the gas coming out of corners. The bike really wants to fall on it's side without a fight. You can almost hear it saying "Is That All You Got?"

Comments

Great bike if you have some twistie road close by and your not afraid to let it hang out. The more you put in the more you will get out of this one. If you are into the "straight-line" thing...go by a Busa.
