Carberation

A slight flat spot off idle (cured by Jet kit and K&N filter), okay until 8K rpm, excellent from 8K to redline.

Brakes

Great rear and front ...a liitle soft on front requiring a stronger pull to engage... good feel once engaged.

Handling

Excellent for a heavy sport bike ... fully adjustable suspension (changes that you can actually feel) really a plus

Comments

Extremely reliable (so far) and versatile, not much after-market parts ... ergo probably a little crowded for those over 5'6" .. great bike for those short on the legs (like me - 28" inseam)

Brakes

soft Feel, medium Strength

Handling

average. needs some work to run it hard.

Comments

best thing to do is hook a chain to it and use it as an anchor.the form wont let me put a zero in the rating box so i put a one.

Mods

No Modifications have been made to the bike, this was the last year the YZF750 was made. I am currently using Bridgstone BT010 tires and they are excellent on this bike.

Carberation

Factory settings for idle mixture caused engine to hesitate or stall when starting from stop (ok with higher revs)fix was to turn mixture screw in one turn on each carb. has been fine since then. sweet spot for power is 7000-11000

Brakes

felt great until I tried an R6 with braided lines. Brakes still very capable at any speed.

Handling

Suspension can be set up to make the freeway expasion joints disappear, or firm for a day at the track.

Comments

A very good all round 750, touring and track days are both well within this bike's capabilities. The motor is strong in the upper rev range if you want to go fast, but not intimidating to ride if you are just getting your first real ride on a sport bike.

Mods

DBR Rearsets, Akrapovic Sports Production 4-2-1 Ti system.

Carberation

None whatsoever with the Akrapovic system and 3 hour dyno session. Its all spot on!! Did have a flat spot at 5,000 and 8,000rom with the stock system though, but this may have been a sticking EXUP valve.

Brakes

Not sure about the others, but mine seem to lose the initial bite early on. Running stock discs, Dot 4 fluid, braided hoses and HH Carbon sintered pads.

Handling

Absolutely awesome. Prefer early-mid 90's bikes over new ones as you need to ride them properly. Goes viffing out of corners like now ones business. Handles well enough to get it over and scrape can and bellypan (or at least I did)

Comments

Quite a lot of decent bike for the money - and a 500 Akrapovic system really is a good investment!!

Mods

race can, braided hose at front, subaru black & blue paint job and a thunderace engine, carbs, cdi, and exhaust

Carberation

750 engine good but lacked real power. however the ace engine with 750 gearing pulls your arms from thier sockets although the top speed is only 165 mph it gets their very quickley. the 750 gearbox fits straight in but is a pain to do.

Brakes

dunlopads improve over stock items as does braided hoses

Handling

superb. even with the ace engine in. some say it is slow but this is mistaken for stable as most modern bikes are twitchy aka r1

Comments

fit an ace or exup 1000cc engine and beat almost anything on an 'old' bike.

Mods

No modifications

Carberation

a bit soft at low revs but cool between 5.000 and 8.000 , beyond that its a bit nervous

Brakes

a bit soft at the front but not so bad, very powerful on the rear tyre

Handling

Very easy to handle for a heavy sportbike, better than some of the new ones

Comments

Good bike for the money, very decent handling, good performance and a hell of an engine very reliable

1994 Chassis (limited mods) 1000cc engine Sugo Airtech bodywork R1 front end (brakes, disc, wheels) D&D pipe Powercommander (I think, can't remember) Some other TZ/GP parts

Carberation

NA, this was a shake-down test session (GTU 30 minute race)

Brakes

We had on AP or Brembos (forgot really)

Handling

Sweetspot on this chassis. Being I was only on this machine for on weekend (not my bike), it took about 7 laps to start understanding where it wanted to go. But transitions, switchbacks, and mederate sweepers the bike was pretty solid.

Comments

Actually, after looking at all these reviews... I wonder who is writting them. The YZF750 frame was designed after the GP YZR 500 bikes. I can not tell the stock-trim as all I have been on has been racebikes, but when I flick this bike into turns (Summit Point Raceway, VA '03) it seemed like my trusty TZm 250GP bike. So, this says ALOT for ths chassis. I had a 1000cc engine in there so I have NO IDEA what at stock bike feels like. I know when ridden fairly quickly, it behaves like a solid bike. Keep in mind, YAMAHA never relies on brute HP, that's Honda's department.

Mods

aftermarket can, 110dB (had to get it quietened for legal but it sounded unreal) streetfightered (bought it accident damaged) paintwork (done by previous owner loud paint & polished frame)

Carberation

fantastic, smooth, endless. still have the exup valve!!

Brakes

lot of feel, front requires more pull than you think but worth the effort.

Handling

handles spot on. steers excellent, turns quicker than you think, gets better the faster u go. have not quite worked out the suspension yet for bumpy corners but i'm sure it will come good with more effort & adjusting.

Comments

this is the best bike i have ever owned, a keeper. the only bug is the clutch, its v hard to get neutral when its hot. intend to get it looked at, may just need a bleed.

Mods

Standard apart from Dynojet stage 1 and foam filter to improve airflow.

Carberation

Spot on, goes mental at 8000rpm, still makes me laugh like a loony.

Brakes

Best brakes I've ever used, way better than Kawasasaki ZX9R brakes and that was only 3 years old.

Handling

First bike to get my knee down on, and again, and again, etc... Nuff said, it's the business, even today.

Comments

Why did Yamaha stop making them when they started winning with them? Maybe it's time for a re-vamp?

Mods

Braided lines, hh plus pads thundercat shock( ride hight much higher) Duke 996 discs, dynojet, k and n and art racecan. The skins are Pirelli dragon evo supercorsas.

Carberation

Problems initially with flat spots after idle running too rich, which was worn emulsion tubes, wear accelerated by dynojet needles. Float heights need setting on these bikes. If exup isnt set up right the bike will run really poorly. A bit of tlc and you will have a smooth runner.

Brakes

Moderate as standard, but with the harder pads and braided lines they feel as good as r6 and the six potters feel as they should do. Awesme when set up right.

Handling

I think the handling is totally predictable and sure footed. You never feel like you would need a damper as the bike is great in high speed corners.

Comments

Good riding position, and very rewarding bike to ride. I have had one for years, never liked the fire blade stying at the time and loved these bikes. My engine gives out 116.5 bhp on the dyno with only the moderate tune. Easily dusts modern 600s with the solid stable feel. I would never bother with the 1000 as the engine is like a sewing machine, good spread of power and has loads of go wehen you need it. I think anybody slagging these bikes above probably has an old bike that needs some tlc.

Stage VII - individual foam pod filters, serious jetting and race exhaust. SS brake lines.

Carberation

Yeah, they're a little flat when stock, but if you open 'em up and let 'em sing, they absolutely rip! I had 104hp and 44lb-ft at the patch and she was such a rush. There was really nothing much going on below 7-8k, but 9 - 13.5k was explosive! What a blast when you tuned her right!

Brakes

Eh...this is one surprising weak spot. For such huge brakes, they're pretty mediocre. SS lines and pads help a ton, but there was some weird problem with getting air totally out of the calipers, so it's best to junk them. I bet if you slapped some Nissin calipers from a 900rr, you'd be in business!

Handling

Fantastic. Forgiving. Total Confidence. What can I say? This chassis saved my rear many times. Once sorted, even with stock hardware, the handling was truly excellent.

Comments

The YZF750 is an awesome bike. Those of you ragging on her never knew how to ride her. Mind you, I abslutely hated the bike....for the first few days!...she was slow, the seat was made of stone, kind of finnicky. I was actually headed back down skyline South of San Francisco to return to the dealer and try to get my $$ back. On the way, I got mad and just caned her. That's when I "got it". At 9,500 rpm, she just went beserk! Charging forward in a manic cacphony of cams and gears and (barely) controlled combustion! I was totally hooked. Needless to say, we didn't make it to the dealer that day.

Racing clutch and the rest stock. Stage II jet and full Akrapovic coming soon.

Carberation

Pretty flat under 5k 6-7 are decent past that are unbeleiveable.

Brakes

Brakes are great even with stock lines and pads, they just have a good bit of leway before they buckle down.

Handling

Fantastic. Taking turns at 80+ and hitting the pegs on the ground, cant be anything but fantastic.

Comments

If you dont keep up with the EX-up and keep it running the 3-5k can be pretty unbarible but with it working correctly the low end HP can go up by 1/3. This bike is heavy but just loves the turns and loves to be flicked around all sorta twisties. I've hit my pegs and still gone further without worry. Never worried once in a turn.

Lil hesitant at take off. You have to give it a little throttle to get her going from full stop.

Brakes

Good brakes. I've heard people bitching aboout the brakes but no worries here.

Handling

Lil top heavy but front to rear balance is spot on.

Comments

This bike absolutly screams at about 8k and on. This will catch you by suprise the first couple of times.

Carberation

Common flat spot off idle, but will put a grin on your face that you can see thru your helmet starting at 8000 rpm!

Brakes

I've always been happy with the brakes. For mid-nineties standards they were great.

Handling

AWSOME! Once dialed in, one of the best hanldling bikes I've ridden. I always know whats going on up front. When leaned over in a corner trail the rear brake to keep the bike settled.

Comments

This is my 4th YZF750 and I need no other sportbike; it's comfy for touring, sporty for track days. I owned a 94 model that I modified with K&N pod filters, jet kit and D&D slip-on pipe. DON'T REMOVE EXUP VALVE! With these mods the 94 was easily the most powerful one I owned and plan to modify my 1996.

Me and a D&D slip on. That is it.

Carberation

This is my second yzf 750. My first was a 1997. For some reason or another I want to say that my 97 was faster. I used to drag my 97 which had a yoshi slip on for mods and that was it. The 97 pulled like nobodies bussiness from start to redline. The 96 that I have now seems to wake up after about 6500. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make it better, email me at oddjobs@netzero.com

Brakes

It stops when I need it to. Cant ask for more than that.

Handling

I havent found any bike or anyone on said bike that can catch me in a set of corners. Could just be how I ride. Ride it like you stole it!

Comments

I love this bike. If it were a chick I would marry it. It gives me what I want when I want it. Cant ask for much more than that.

vance&hines pipe, k&n filter.

Carberation

Great power up to rev limiter at 14000rpm, measured 112bhp at rear wheel on dyno. EXUP great for low to mid rpm, copied by honda and suzuki later. Only two gears needed on track due to cr box. 39mm Flatslides can bog but they really SUCK when open

Brakes

had hard race pads that didn't bite till warm so street braking adequate rather than good.

Handling

solid as a rock in corners, bit twitchy on hard exit, would have fitted steering damper if kept. At 180kg was still not too heavy.

Comments

bike was written off, otherwise I would have kept it forever. Hard to find in NZ.
