none..stock bike
Not a 'off the block' monster, yet the power delivery is scary and the bike is a great source for thrills. Dont yet know what the top speed is, but should be about 100-110 mph.
Even with drum brakes at both ends the bike stops wonderfully well, and is quite reliable even at high speeds.
Handles reasonably well, but is full of surprises. Its best to know the bike well, before u start to burn the tarmac with it.
Probably the most exciting bike in its class, great feel to the machine and has the most wonderful exhaust note.
Devil exhaust, with K&N jetting and filter changes
With proper jetting on the aftermarket exhaust the power is smooth and tractable.
Brakes are a bit soft but this is an all purpose sport bike. It will stop when needed, but not like a superbike.
Solid at moderate riding pace, but at a hot race pace the stock forks and rear shock are overwhelmed.
Great bike for long rides when the straights and corners are mixed up throughout the day. Loads of fun when the pavement ends and a gravel road excursion lies ahead. Visions of Paris-Dakar dance through my head on occasion.
Slightly larger, aftermarket front disk. Adjustable monoshock rear suspension 130mm travel.
Needs at least 3,000rpm to get moving off smoothly. Liquid cooled 4cyl DOHC 250 with 4 x Keihin carbs. On full throttle the exhaust valves fully open and power comes on smooth between 4-10,000rpm. There is a slight boost at 12,000 then power increases gradually all the way to 17,000. Theres probably not too much more power beyond 15,000.
Very soft application gives smooth braking with good feel. Hard application is needed to get stong braking. If the front suspension is firm enough the bike can do stoppies.
Had a brand new headstem bearing put in when I bought it. I have never ridden a bike that handles so well. Precise entry is easy and depening on tyre condition, the bike handles as good as any fine sportsbike. At 142kg the bike can be literally thrown into a corner with little trouble.
This isn't my first bike but for most it would be. It is a very fast 250, close to the RGV & KR-1S. Given high reving and full throttle it should obtain 0-100kmh in 4.5secs. Certainly not in the league of it's bigger brothers power-wise but looks, sounds and handles similarly, if not better.
expansion chambers.
no flat spots, Amazing response!! and a very scary bike.
very powerful
A++++++++++++++++++++
the bike has excellent pickup, uncontrolable on the 1st and 2nd gear, can do 120mph easily with chambers. The fastest in its class.
Air filter chanced to sport
Very cool motorbike its only 125 cm3 but it drives like ~250 i drive it bike 185km/h its ~135mph
Brembo braking disks and supports
Very good motorbike i fink it's first in this 125cm3

1985 Yamaha rz350....its a 2 stroke incredible little bike. weighs around 300lbs and out about 60hp to the rear wheel. so far i put in a barnett clutch. factory pipes race chambers and i try to keep sticky tires on it.
not much in the bottom as typical with any 2 stroke, but watch out when u hit 7K
actually for 1985 it has exceptional brakes dual disks up front with a single in back...good enough brakes to do stoppies
the frame is derived from the ealrier TZ models, still nice and rigid, geometry is great for mid sized people..people with shorter legs may have trouble touching the ground or reaching the rather lowish bars
I have logged about 20,000kms on it in the past 2 years, it is a pretty reliable little bike. Its a blast when u wanna blow someones old katana off the stoplights. www.geocities.com/damianefarnham/yamaharz.html
Cosmetic
As with the FZR series the bike when in 3rd or above dose nothing unless your above 6000 rpm And cold weather is no friend of this bike, when cold warm up takes some time, and alot of choke, also the bike slowly creaps from 115 to it top speed
Beware the rear tire lock up, why because its FUN!!! Front can be a little weak (I lookin in to gettin some EBC brake pads for better response)
Well due to age im thinking of new front fork springs, cause the front end is now mush, even after a seal job, but man o man dose this bike love to carve, Ive only been ridin for 4 months so im tryin to keep up and learn all this bike can teach.
Comfort is not a plus on this bike, the banana must of been desgned by a woman cause my johnson dose not like long trips. Had the seat re-upulstered and more padding added, so things are better but the seat is narrow, there are no two ways about it.
Braided S/S brakelines, EBC pads, powder-coated bars, S/S fittings, rear seat cowl, etc.
Good, old, reliable, aircooled, UJM, 600 motor gives good torque across rev range with totally predictable delivery to top speed. No flat spots, no vibes, no hassles!
With the braided S/S brakelines & EBC pads, the brakes are up to sportbike strength. Two-fingered stops no problem at moderate speeds, great feel. Rear brake - forget it!
FZ400RR frame with XJ600 motor shoehorned in - need I say more? Perfect compromise between nippy 400 & longer-legged 600!
Bought 3 years ago to return to motorcycling; ideal machine, whether in city traffic or a for a day's blasting out in the country. Despite sportbike geometry, handles a good 2-3 hours in the saddle without drama. Good economy, ~200mph main tank range.
None
no flat spots
Powerful..a bit inadequate after 140 kmph
Mind Blowin
A must buy ,wheelies on the 1st and 2nd gear..,,pretty economical,,and a trouble free bike..
No mods
The power really only starts to come on over 7,000rpm with a 'powerband' between 12,000 - 16,000rpm. There is nothing really useable after this. I weigh 58kgs and the bike gave me a top speed of 175kmph at about 15,500rpm by memory (it's been a couple of years since i had the bike). With the help of a hill it easily reached it's 18,500rpm redline in top gear which I estimate at 205-210kmph. In comparison to CBR250, ZXR250 and GSXR250 the power is very similar, the exup valves may give the yamaha a little more of a flatter power curve and maybe a small increase in mid range but the differences between all of these bikes are down to individual condition and age. The Yamaha motor amazingly never gave me any mechanical problems in the 70,000km of riding that I did despite a very pronounced lack of maintenance and an ethusiastic throttle hand.
Front brake would be best described as adequate, it had a good deal of feel yet wasn't manic nor spongy. Fitting braided lines might be a good idea if you want to ride hard. The brake pads lasted phenominally well, despite a large build up of carbon on the rims they never seemed to wear, even though I occasionally got them smoking after a hard ride. The front and especially the rear did tend to fade a little after about 20-30 minutes of hard riding on twisty roads. The rear (brembo) was crap. It was very easy to lock up and gave very little feel.
The handling was quite good, it easily found the limits of the tyres and it was easy to control slides using the throttle due to the good level of feel coming through the bike. However the front could be firmer - but that said the bike did feel better with a pillion (I weigh 58kgs the pillion 46kgs). The handling of a CBR250 is better and can generally get another 10-20kmph out of most corners.
I owned this bike for three years and added 70,000km to it's original 22,000. It was my main method of transport around the city of Auckland, New Zealand and my toy for the roads of the Coromandel Peninsula. For city riding it was quite comfortable and easily had enough acceleration, handling and brakes. Open straight highways were literally a pain in the arse (and wrists/back) to ride. After about thirty minutes pain and boredom easily sets in. Due to the small motor and high revs a good cruising speed would only be 120-140kmph. The same factors which make this bike unsuitable for highway riding make it a weapon for tight twisty roads, it happily screams it's way through the twisties leaving tire tread and bigger bikes in it's wake. I have beaten a few GSXR750's and a fireblade through the tight turns of the Coromandel. Of course given any long straight the bigger bikes will blast past it but the trick is to maintain a high corner speed and get back on the power as soon as possible (which is generally a lot earlier than the bigger bikes). I was amazed at the strength of the motor and dissapointed with the crap clutch, clunky gearbox and crap rear brake. It is better in every way to the GSXR250 and VT250, and my choice over the ZXR250 which seems to be all show and no go (the handling is no better, the power is the same and the ergonomics suck if you aren't the perfect height/weight and on a race track). I would choose a CBR250 over the Yamaha due to build quality and handling, however I do recommmend both bikes and am sure with a little care the Yamaha would be bomb proof - you may just want to spend some time setting up the suspension and keeping an eye on that clutch.
V&H SS2R pipe, rejetted carbs. 153hp.
From 2,500 rpm its partytime. thank you, EXUP!
Quite strong enough, Im going to change to steelembraded wires though.
Good enough for me! (0-60mph - 2,6sec)
Not the best on anything, but the best together. Its my bike, and I love it!
The person I bought the bike from had spilled pretty bad so it took time to restore it to its nautral state. Modifications include a new modified seat(capable of holding a NOS tank), rebuilt carb, new paint, and new exhaust. In order to improve speed I rebuilt the engine to 300cc and added a NOS tank under the seat
Relitively slow bike, yet a decent canyon carver. Top speed around 100 mph, 75 mpg.
Dont need brakes, race on strip.
Only goin one direction.
Well, before I had put 2000 dollars into the bike it was a real peice of shit. Now I go on the drag strip and race other vintage 250's.
Kerker 4/2/1 2.5" comp baffle Dynojet stage 1 K&N drop in removed Y from air box
Very good pwr curve up to 8500 rpm and runs flat across the chart to 9500 redline.120.4 hp, 78.0 torq.Carbs are 35 mm down draft mikuni's w/ v-boost,requires some cleaning from time to time and keep in sync.Stage 7 is even better but requires more maint. and flow meter for sync due to removal of v-boost and replace w/ tubes.
Braking is good, can be upgraded w/ R1 master cly,ss brake lines F/R.
Well not the greatest but can be done if you're good.
The Vmax has explosive power from off idle up to and past redline (no rev limiter)not a sport bike in terms of handling but sport bike performance in a straight line.Sounds more like a pro stock drag car than any motorcycle.I would compare the Vmax to a TILT-A-WHIRL canival ride thats out of CONTROL!
No modifications, bone stock.
Bogs below about 1500rpms. Power comes on after that, really strong above 5500 up to 8500. Torque monster, will bring up the front end. Freeway speed throttle roll-ons are great, no shifting just passing cars. Tire burning 50mph first gear cruiser/sport combo bike.
Braking is good with twin discs on the front and single on the rear - stiffen front shocks to avoid front end dive.
Handles like a tank!
Bike is Stock
The power was moderate below 4000 rpm, above 7000 rpm the power really kicked in.
Brakes are a weak spot on this bike, they fade rather quickly.
Handling was superb, I never had a problem keeping up with the gsxr750's of the day. I loved the handling of the bike.
I've owned two 1987 FZ 700's. I put well over 100,000 miles on both of them and never once had a problem. Tuneup's weren't required till around 30,000 miles and even then they didn't need it. The bikes were very comfortable to ride on long freeway trips or through the mountains. A tank of gas would go over 200 miles before going to reserve.
Stock
Fuel injection works great. Will write follow up when more miles on bike. Too cold and wet for enthusiastic riding. Plenty of power.
Reported as having less than great brakes. Time will tell.
Too early-too cold. Very stable and predictable. No surprises.
I can't wait for some warm and dry weather. First new bike ever. Effortless operation. Probably the best value bike on the market. Act fast as the U.S. will only get 3-4 per dealer this year. Good buy at $6499. Anything less is great. The Blue is darker than standard Yamaha blue. I don't care much for silver, too easy to be invisible in the fog or dusk.
bigger jets one restrictor taken out
pull off power is exellent for a 50cc beats every other geared 50cc ive raced for example RS50 cagiva mito 50 and most rev and go's as well
really good brakes quick sharp and comfortable
its a light bike so it handles pretty well never had it jump out of gear
the TZR50 is a good bike for begginers like me especcially if you want to get the feel of a big bike but i have had my fair few problems nothing serious but still its a problem like the temperature light was out i had a crash dew to a loose chain im ok bumps and bruses
Turn lights smaller, the old ones was like becons. Double snail horn sounds much better. WP springs for front suspension.
For a two-stroke is very linear and torqey but scare comparing to a four-stroke. the kick is spread between 5k-7k rpm. Max speed I ever see 153mph. Accelerate litle slower than a today 600 sportbike.
The front is spongy because of anti-dive system end the stopping power is just fair. The rear due to a very large disk is dangerously strong, I fell once cause of it.
The overall handling is just fair. Rear suspension is excellent. Front the WP springs is a must, next step is lowering the front from the triple clumps at least 2cm. The greatest flaw that the bike have the tendecy of standing up during front braking on a corner. Ideal bike for an Indian
Very reliable except of carburators float needles, and the corrosion of fuel tank which is made from scrap. That's why I sick end tire Yamaha.
Corbin gunfighter seat - firm padding - wider than stock and awesome feel. Added 6-pot calipers from 94-95 fzr1000. Running 180/55 and 120/70 of course. Lifted rear with shorter dog bones for sharper handling. D&D exhaust. V&H Powerpak brain box.
Bike retains ExUP and is well carburated from off idle to 11,500 redline. Stays with any new R1 and stuffs anything else except the big dogs. Honda CBR's need not apply here. Exceptional for a bike now nearing 14 years old!
After adding the 6-pots from a 94-95 the brakes are superb. The stock units were ok - just these 6-pots are smooth as can be and no fade whatsoever. One of the better upgrades I've done.
After raising the back end with new shorter dogbones, makes all the difference. This bike is not light at 525lbs wet, so you'll give up alittle to the srads and cbr9xx in the twisties but more than make up when the road straightens.
There's a reason this bike was voted in 87-88 as machine of the year and again in 89-90. Yet it was still on top of the open class warfare as tested in 1996 (when they tested the 95 fzr against all the newbies) it still was on top. Have you ever wondered why? Ride one you'll appreciate the chassis, engine, ergonomics and power. It handles like it's on rails, due in no small part to the genesis design, including the permiter frame which was pioneered by yamaha in the first place. More comfortable than an R1, yep it does give up a bit of power, but in serious roll-ons the FZR stays with ANY mildly modified R1. Will absolutely roast anything less than a litre bike, no suzuk srads here, no cbr900rr's, only thing I find interesting are the zx-11's. Oh and if you come across a 1990 issue bike mag check out that the FZR1000 was the FIRST bike ever tested to go 10.3x at 134 in the 1320. Yes. Fact. Look it up. Good source of info is mcreports.com.
DYNO JET STAGE ONE,LAZER RACE CANS,TRIUMPH FRONT END 17" FRONT WHEEL 170 REAR TYRE
AWSOME POWER FROM 0-150+ ITS A DRAG BIKE WITH ROAD TAX
SHIT ! BUT WHO NEEDS BRAKES ONCE UR ON U DONT WANNA STOP, BUT THEY DO WORK IF U NEED THEM
NO WIMPS PLEASE TAMING THE BEAST NEEDS MAN, DONT LISTEN TO ALL THAT CRAP THAT THE V-MAX DONT GO ROUND CORNERS ITS AS GOOD AS ANY OTHER BIKE I'VE RIDDEN
I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED WHEN I GOT MY MAX IN-FACT I CANT IMAGINE WANTING TO SELL IT FOR ANYTHING ELSE. IF YOU LIKE THE LOOK OF THE MAX THEN I WOULD RECOMMEND IT BUT IF YOU HAVE A WEAK HEART,WEAK BLADDER OR ARE A WIMP THEN GET A MOPED
EBC Pads and Brembo calipers.
Power curve is pretty linear power stops in all gears around 8500 RPM but in 5th and six gets a kick around 9200 RPM. Top speed is about 130mph
Original calipers were great but the Brembos are on a dime.
Great stearing response. Foot pegs stick out a bit much I have dragged them on the ground a couple of times grinding out curves.
Overall this is a pretty well rounded bike. I am hoping to get on a Yamaha FJR1300 soon.
Totally stock, although I plan on putting a Maxim round headlight on it
The choke usually has to be played with before it starts up. Once it warms up it runs beautifully. The engine only puts out 55HP, but power delivery is very sharp, particularly in the lower gears. It revs up high and has a great sound. Fuel economy averages about 45 miles per gallon.
The rear brake is a drum, and could use a bit more grab. However, the twin front brakes work pretty well, and you can adjust them how you like.
The front fork could use a suspension adjustment. You can adjust the back shocks (somehow- neither the Clymer's nor owner's manual tells you how to do it). You can get a fairly good amount of lean out of this bike if you push it hard enough, although it's not hard to scrape a peg. It only weighs 434lbs wet, so it is very easy to move around. It is still pretty stable on the highways despite its lack of fairing. It also rides two-up very nicely. The passenger and operator can both sit comfortably. I have ridden two-up over some very bumpy streets, and the Radian does a pretty good job of absorbing the impact.
I bought this bike for $500 from a friend. It had been sitting up for 10 months and had only been started three times in that time period. I put in a new battery, drained out the old gas, and poured some B12 in the carbs, and she started right up. This is my first bike, and I would highly recommend one to anyone without a lot of cash looking to get one. You can usually find one for about $800-1000. It has enough power and versatility to make it worth keeping for a while. Maintenance is pretty easy. Overall, a very meat-and-potatoes kind of design. It's air-cooled, so there's no radiator to flush. If you're learning about motorcycle maintenance, this is a good bike to do it on. Parts are resilient and cheap. It's a pretty solid construction- especially the engine casing. It has been dropped on the left side and crashed on the right, and there is still no significant damage. The seat is also relatively low- I'm 5'9" and can sit on it pretty comfortably, but I know someone who is 5'2" and could handle hers fairly well. 16" tires can be hard to find, but Cheng Shin and Dunlop both make replacements. My only real gripe is that the three-gallon tank can be a nuisance on long trips because of the constant need to refill. Overall, it is a good, rock-solid, easy-to-work on, versatile bike. There are current, superior designs available, but for ease of operation and especially value, I have to give the bike an 8 overall.
STOCK JUST WELL TAKEN CARE OF
THIS BIKE CAN REALY GET UP AND GO FOR ITS OLD AGE
THE BRAKES ARE PERFECT
THE HANDILING IS PRETTY GOOD FOR HOW OLD IT IS
IT IS AN EXCELLENT BUY AND AN EXCELLENT BIKE IT CAN OUTRACE MOST NEW 600 AND ITS OVER 20YEARS OLD
Several cosmetic mods (Chrome windscreen, Aftermarket mirrors, repainted plastic, fender elimination kit, flush mount blinkers, chrome OEM wheels, aftermarket seats) Micron High Mount exhaust, lowered 3", Power Commander.
Low end and high end power is more than sufficient for a 600 cc sportbike. I have noticed a flat spot going from 3rd to 4th around 110 mph, but quickly clears around 125mph. Very tight out of the corners with plenty of crack.
Smooth breaks with plenty of stopping power. No complaints here.
One of the better handling bikes of its class. Drops into the corners like a dream and leans over very easily. I've noticed the most impressive control at 120 + Very smooth if you can keep the RPM's up!
Great bike for someone who wants to learn how to ride and increase their overall talent. If you're looking at getting your first bike, this is it. This bike will ride as hard you can you push it.
comleteley re-jetted, absolutley stock exhaust system (inconsicuos!!!!)
blows away any other 50cc on pull away powerband kicks hard
super strong front and back disks
very easy to throw around weighs nothing

This bike is has an all around power delivery i was impressed.
Above 120mph you are gonna have to down shift.
Great
I've only had it for a week but as far as I can tell it is good, fast, comfortable bike to ride esp for the price.
leo vince exhaust system totally rejetted new reeds and reed block ecu de-restricted k&n filter and some blue Neons
