Dunlop D204 Review

  • Tire: D204
  • Name: geo
  • Bike: VTR1000F
  • Rating: 5

Surface

Type of surface tested on. Temp. Weather Conditions 4,500 miles in changing conditions

Grip

Average grip in the dry, lower than average in the rain

Stability

Stability etc. Moderate profile and stiff compound gives it good stability

Handling

Quick or slow to lean in or react to changes. Slow and heavy steering

Comments

An average commuter tire in the dry, poor performance in the wet. Tread life is average but there are others than offer much more grip and last almost as long. If this is your OME tire, keep them for the break-in period then get rid of them.

Surface

Type of surface tested on. normal everyday riding conditions and the occasional blast out of town

Grip

at first i thought grip was okay until i rode a cbr with pilots on it. for example: i couldn't do stoppies on my bike. in the rain they are absolutely terrible: front wheel slides and rear wheel spins everywhere.

Stability

they feel stable although my bike isn't exactly twitchy by nature

Handling

bad, real bad. i thought i had a slowturning bike until i recently bought a set of bridgestone bt-010s. my bike now fals into corners (almost litteraly when i first rode them) and i can do a front wheel stops now real easy.

Comments

they suck. if you have these tires do yourself a favor and buy a set of bt-010 or pilots or... your bike will feel a 1000 times better

Surface

Streets of Los Angeles and Angeles Crest.

Grip

When warm is okay. Take a while to warm up, when they're still cold, they slide too easy, they even slide when you gear down to slow down the bike. When wet, it is very very bad.

Stability

The feedback is very vague when you lean the bike (50mph +) at angeles crest. Still have 1/2" chicken strip on the rear tire.

Handling

Setting the pressure at 34psi at front and 38psi at rear should help the grip a little. Setting a lower pressure will make the suspensions feel even softer than they already are, and the bike will fall too quick when you corner at slower speed (<40mph).

Comments

Avoid getting this tire. I can't believe some of the newer bikes (such as 2002 VFR) come with these tires as OEM.

Surface

everyday use. average road condition. many different Weather Conditions.

Grip

better than average grip. A bit stiff for the cooler weather though. only fair grip in the rain.

Stability

very good Stability.

Handling

the 204's handled well in warm dry weather. quick and responsive. only fair in the cool and wet.

Comments

the 204's where on my bike when i got it new. at that time they where the only one that came in the 190 series so that's what i got. they really only would have lasted for about 6,000k. but cant be sure a trip to Daytona bike week and a few smoky burnout. seems to have done them in.
