Dunlop D205 Review

  • Tire: D205
  • Name: Kawiman
  • Bike: Kawasaki ZX-10
  • Rating: 6.5

Surface

Type of surface tested on, smooth surfaces to rough roads. Temp from the 30s to 95+. Weather Conditions all types from balmy sunny days to cold wet misrable.

Grip

Grip was fair up to half tyre life after that tended to fall off a bit. Ran the tyre down to the edge but 100% confidence wasn't quite there. Easy to spin up exiting out of corners when hard on the throttle.

Stability

Straight line stability was good, full lean thru corners was off just a bit. Complaint overall soaked up rough roads well.

Handling

Overall steering was neutral but under braking thru corners the bike tended to stand up so always found breaking a little early was best. Handling was generally good for this tyre.

Comments

Ridden up to 80% tyres were decent after that confidence tended to fall. Ridden during hot weather tyres heated up fairly well and had decent grip, cool to cold and the tyres were less inspiring. Wet weather handling was very good but didn't make it a practice to try and be M Doohan in the rain. Milage was 8500 and they were slick, front went off before the rear, front started cupping around 7000mi mark and as the wear increased the handling quickly decreased. If you commute 60+% of the time and keep the "pace" at 80% then these work pretty well when the pace picks up they reach their limits quick. 205s are discontinued and being replaced by the D220s if you can find a set for cheap then get them but for the performance they give it's not worth paying the same amount as some of the other newer compound tyres out there.

Surface

Type of surface tested on. Temp. Weather Conditions

Grip

When the tyres finally are up to decent temperature the tyres are quite grippy. At least under dry conditions. In rainy conditions they underachieve big time. Exciting tyre to use since the tyres tend to slip without any warning. Tyres also do not deliver the goods during fast rides on twisting roads during a hot summer day.

Stability

Tyres feel stable on straight roads, but are not the tyres you want on a winding roads.

Handling

Average overall handling, nothing special.

Comments

These tyres do not deliver. Keep away from them. Bad grip and an average mileage. Just spend a few euros / dollars more for the GREAT Bridgestone BT020s and you will get those footrests grinding! With these crappy tyres you will not.

Surface

Used on a huge variety of roads in any condition you can name.

Grip

Slippery in most conditions, though in the wet they were pretty good. Cold grip was similar to warm grip.

Stability

They were stable in a straight line, but not very stable in corners. Stability went down with cornering force. Road feel and the feel for what the tire is doing was pretty good. Unfortunately, the feel was usually "I'm about to die."

Handling

Slow turning, tended to either fall in or stand up with braking or throttle. Not confidence-inspiring.

Comments

A terrible tire that I would only recommend if all you care about is mileage and not performance. Decent for touring and in bad weather. Gives very high mileage, but handling gets even worse at about half its life.
