Dry Roads
Fantastic grip. Equals some race compunds.
Extremely stable and neutral. Better than the Mez 3 race tires. Way better the pilot race or sports.
Excellent overall handling. Very neutral and responsive. Tolerates front braking in a turn.Makes you love your bike.
These are the best sport tires I have ever ridden on.
1. Type of surface tested on? asphalt 2. Temp? 43 degrees 3. Weather Conditions? overcast, winds at 12mph
The grip was awesome I was surprise how good they stuck to the road in 40 degree weather and at that i was draggin knee. I really can't wait till it warms back up then it really going to get interesting.
The stability was there especially at full lean angle but on the freeway the ride was a little bumpy but with these tires my bike won't be seeing much of the freeway, mostly the track and backroads.
The tire was really quick to lean in and react to changes compared to Dunlop's D207ZR I ran previously. It also held the line very well and another thing is the tire will warn you when its at it limit.
Best tire my bike has seen yet would'nt choose nothing else. The tire heats up really quick, had a hard time keeping the front down on the ground because the rear was hooking up so hard.
I have used these tires on dry cold to warm roads. I haven't hit the hot tracks yet. cant wait til summer!
The grip was outstanding. they gave me a confidence that was unmarked. i hit some roads really hard after getting them scuffed in real good. never broke on me at all. i am usually really hard on tires.
Stablitity was excellent during all types of riding.
These tires turn in QUICK. it made my bike handle totally different than the 207ZR's that i have ridden since they came out. it took a lot less effort to corner. by being sticky, i have found that i brake later and plow into a corner and lean the hell out of the bike with no fear. the rear tire was excellent as well. even when hard throttling out of a corner, they kept traction great. i am not big on power slides so i dont do them. but when i came out of the corner and hit it, the front end came up easier that i remember.
The best tires that i have ever rode on. i have been riding for a little less than 10 years and i have found a new tire. i had originally only ridden dunlops. well i am a BIG metler fan now!!!!!
Generally dry riding so far. In my style of riding, if it rains, I don't go out full tilt on my R1, It takes too long for me to get well anymore.
I rode from Portland, Or. to Laguna Seca for the WSB races. The tire were bran new and grip was great. My R1 was lightly loaded with full tank bag and tail pack. We rode down the coast and back up the freeway. Great tires.
I was completely comfortable at full lean. No rain but had a lot of fog/mist, I ran full tilt thru the red woods and never felt loose.
I reduce from 190/50ZR-17 to 180/55ZR-17 and found the turnin to be noticably smoother and quicker
Only have a few rides on these tire, but would recomend them to sport riders.
Type of surface tested on. Temp. Weather Conditions-Sothern California Summer/Fall Dry and Hot
Fabulous grip.Like glue!
Stability etc. A very stable tire from straight up to full lean. Great feel on the brakes. Tough to fault.
Quick or slow to lean in or react to changes. These tire really quickened up the handling on the Triple. Very predictable in transition and at the limits of adhesion. The rear slides out very controlled and predictably. They brought the Speed Triple to a new level of handling.
Great tire. Be warned though, if your looking for mileage these are not your tire. Expect 1500 to maybe 2000 miles from the rear if you are fairly agressive and about 4000 from the front tire. I have a friend with an R1 and he burned the rear up in around 1200 miles. My new R1 has Dunlop 208's and they are holding out much better with around 1500 miles on them already and they handle and grip very well. I would estimate at least 3500+ off of the back tire. If you don't mind the quick wearof the M-1, you'll love a set!
Type of surface tested on. Dry Roads. All surfaces from freeway to back road abuse. Temp. 25c - 45c Weather Conditions Dry
The best examples on grip are these. 1) When launching from a red light with a 207 or 208 could easliy result in a long burnout if I so desired (hot or cold tyre. Using the white line to get it spinning). The M1 will not spin up hot or cold. It will spin on the white line, then emit a loud chirp as the tyre meets the bitumen again. I have tried to light it up, but it will simply wheelstand. 2)In the early hours they water the grass where I live. This water finds it way to the road and with a dunlop at 60 kays in 2nd gear cracking open the throtle would spin up with ease. The M1 will wheelstand in the same conditions. Excellent! What is interesting to note is the wear factor. I would waste a 207 or 208 in sub 3000kms. The sportecs have been on my bike now for 4000 kays and have about half tread left. They don't scollop out or tear like dunlops do. I used to buy a rear 207 every 3-4 weeks. I'm glad I've found out about the M1's. The best thing you can do is try them.
Stability etc. Confidence inspiring. Truely an amazing compound tyre. Steering at low speed dramatically improved for me. With 207's 208's it was slow and heavy at 25 - 35 Km/h turns, hair pins etc. With the M1's, KILLER! High speed freeway corning is outstanding. Turn in, roll on, hang on! These tyres hold a line well with the added benefit of grip not normally found on a street tyre. Flogging thru quiet country roads, again grip steering and stablility are all ten outta ten.
I think that the M1's turn in faster and have enough grip to take obsticles such as rocks or sticks that happen to be in the way, on the inside or outside. They steer extremely well.
Let me know when there's a better tyre! The value for money is excellent. $30 per set more. 3 times the usable life. Ten times the fun! A friend said "I've waited all my life for these tyres". I couldn't agree with him more.
Type of surface tested on. Temp. Weather Conditions
I used it on both my bikes, never slipped on me yet. Even when its raining, you still have traction. Tires warm up fast enough for street riding, not too good for the race track, they tend to melt.
Feel great when you first get them. in about 1000 miles, if your bikes a daily rider, they tend to bald in the middle pretty fast, especially on the bigger bikes.
I give them a 9 out of 10 for the street 6 out of 10 on the track
Awsome tires. Perfect the street racer.
Type of surface tested on. Temp. Weather Conditions
Not the best grip by far.
Good.
Good / Average
Average, but give me a dunlop over this anyday.
streets, canyons. fair weather and hot weather alike.
unbelievable! quick warm up and softer than the stock dunlops my bike came with. this made for a smoother ride
excellent feedback. confidence inspiring and stable.
very quick to lean. the profile of the tire contributes to this a whole lot. one thing about them though is this...unlike many tires where the bike wants to stand up when you gas it while leaned over, the sportecs stay planted. they love being in corners. grip is excellent. in cold and in warm / hot weather.
they are the bomb!
Street riding on first rear and half of front. Temps ranging from 35-75F. Trackday on the second rear and used front, temp 70F.
Excellent, far superior to the 207ZR & BT-010. Initially wasn't too sure about running these tires on the track, however by my second session I was letting it rip. The front pushed on me twice, very minimal slide and hooked up again. The rear will spin up on full lean, as expected, yet its easy to handle.
Great feedback in the front and rear. Breaking in the corners, trail braking, is not a problem on these.
Tires turn in just right, the bike was really easy to set up with these on.
Never immagined having this much traction. Great tires.
Surface: Street and track Temperature: Cold to very hot Weather Conditions: Rain to sun
Amazing grip under nearly all conditions, wet or dry, cold or hot. Traction wavered slightly under extreme heat (+90' Farenheight air temp).
Good steering response, nice compliance over bumps. Somewhat numb under hard braking.
Keeping in mind this was on a YZF600, very good feel in quick direction changes, very stable trail braking. Rode a GSX-R600 with these tires and bike was quite light-footed.
Amazing tire, amazing lifespan, great deal considering this tire is at home on the track as well as long street life.
Had the tyres for approx 1200km. Rode in the dry, wet, on the street, and at a couple trackdays.
Grip on this tyre is fantastic. Heats up very quickly then sticks like glue. Even when cold the grip level is very good compared to Dunnys and Mich... At the track grip is still very good taking into consideration its "street" bias.
This is where this tyre excels for me... the rear end is very predictable and hooks up extremely well driving out of corners. Front is responsive and very confidence inspiring...
Overall best handling tyre I've had to date... turn in is very quick and responsive to input. Off the line the tyre grabs freakishly well and makes for quick starts. Superb at all lean angles and provides excellent feedback front and rear...
Can't say enough about the Metzlers. I've tried Mich Pilot Sports and Dun D208 on previous bikes and D207ZR which came on the gixxer. The Sportecs are without doubt the best of the bunch. The difference between the 207s and the M1s was like night and day and changed the handling characteristics of the bike incredibly...On the street they are good for twisties or general duty. The traction is outstanding and you will never have troubles with front or rear grip on the street. At the track they still perform well and when the tyre does slide it is reassuringly predictable. Wear has been about average but I have had them out at the track a couple times and they still have a bit of life left in them yet... Rest assured I'll be purchasing again when they do! Great tyre... Can't fault!!!
Type of surface tested on. Temp. Weather Conditions 2400 miles ( shagged at about 2k). All in warm waether, very little rain - got lucky
Very good but not exceptional. I've slid front and rear in banked sweepers on the street. I'd rate the rear grip midway between the 207rr and BT012ss
Stability etc. Front is very compliant and that makes it very stable over all sorts of pavements (raing grooves, cracks etc). The downside is that they convey very little feeedback at the bars - the opposite of the BT012ss in every way. Rear is another problem, with street psi 36 it walks all over when you're riding on the edges, I've tried everything and the only thing that calms it down is to drop the psi to 32psi - that sucks for a street tire. The rear outside edge also gets shreded in layers and you feel it.
Quick or slow to lean in or react to changes. Slower than the BT012ss, more progressive than the 207RR. If you adjust the ride heights for the rubber they're all pretty close afterwards.
Fast but vague feeling and a rather short life for the level of performance they have. I liked the front, hated the rear. I wish people would stop rating every single a "ten", it makes this worthless.
Type of surface tested on. Road and Track Temp. 26 to 32 degrees Celsius Weather Conditions Road - Both dry and wet Track - Dry only
Superb! Planted feel. Period!
Stability etc. Way better than the stock OEM Mez 4. The latter sucks.
Quick or slow to lean in or react to changes. Neutral handling. The bike handles the way you want it to on these tyres. Very much unlike the Mez 4s.
Great tires. Get it and you won't regret it. Well... maybe the mileage. But then again you can't have the best of both worlds... or can you?? Best tires I've had. Period!
Type of surface tested on. Temp. Weather Conditions
Grip is very impressive! Usually on my busa I can break a tire loose pretty easy when powering out of the end of a corner. These tires just seem to grab hold, sqwat down and forward I go.
My bike likes most is a 190 but for the M1's I went with a 180. Not as stable in the corner but you can ask these tires to do whatever and they seem to mind pretty well.
I'm not sure if it was my change to a 180 or what, but the bike is very flickable but it seems to take a bit longer to react to the turn.
This is quickly replacing the Pilot Sport as my favorite tire. Just have to wait and see on the durability of them.
Rear Sportec M1 has been on concrete at temps between 20 and 95 degrees and unfortunately in the rain a few times. Never have I had incidences of slipping in turns or inability to grab on dry concrete. Highly recommend for overal handling and appearance.
grabs hard, on all surfaces.
Quick or slow to lean in or react to changes.
This is my first sportbike, was riding "customs" before. I tested them on dry pavement at temp. ranging from 22 to 30 degrees celcius
Grip is far better than the Brigetones 012 that came as original equipment. These tires beg you to lean the bike hard. Two words describe the grip : Rock Solid !
The bike feels much more secure whether in a staight line or leaning hard. Even if they grip much better than the Brig. 012 they are just as comfortable over bumps (if not better). One complaint : they are very noisy ??? Sound like mud tires on a truck when you come to a stop sign !
They are much quicker to turn in and out, and once leaned in a corner they track perfectly. These tires have improved my average speed on my favorite twisties by more than 15 mph. Turned what some call an almost sport tourer (bastards !) into a true carving machine.
Love the difference these tires make. Makes me much more confident on the bike because of the solid tracking. Take into consideration though that these are only my second pair of tires that I've "tested" and that I'm farely new to the sportbike scene. I'll give room in my rating for the next pair I'll try ! If these are 8.5 the brigestones are a 6.5
generally dry twisty backroads
excellant. high confidance level on both dry and wet roads
super
a little slow into turns, but acceptable
poor tire life. I get 1500mi maximumon a rear tire
Type of surface tested on. Temp. Weather Conditions sunny california weather. fast sweepers (hwy 9). highway commuting.
better grip than the stock dunlops my bike came with. i'm way more comfortable at low lean angles on the m1 than i was on the 207. but the added grip comes at a cost... more wear.
Stability etc. road feel is good. u seem to feel what the tires are going through.
Quick or slow to lean in or react to changes. good handling especially at lean angles.
as a round town/twisty tire i think it's the best tire out right now as far as performance goes. but the tire only lasts around 1500miles (lean angle miles). after that they're good for another 1000mi. on the highway only. if u do more commuting than twisties, i'd recommend dunlops.. they seem to last longer.
Highway from Phoenix Arizona to Huntington Beach California. 400 + miles each way. On the way to cali it was dry with temps from 44 degrees F to 65. Return trip was raining and about 52 degrees F . AVE. speed 85- 110 mph both ways
Best grip I ever had. Stopped well when wet and held firmly in the corners
Stability was awesome. At 140mph coming through the mtns. It felt like I was glued to the road.
Lean angle on these tires is perfect for my bike. Flicking from side to side it was very responsive.
I did use one size wider than staock in the rear But this is the best tire I have found for a VTR1000. Only thing next is the full race slicks on ultra soft compound to compare.
The weather this tire was exposed to was spring, summer and fall. Little wet weather was experienced.
The Sportec is good. The tire felt like an improvement over the stock Dunlop 207. It warmed up pretty quickly and when it did it performed.
Stability etc. Great!
Very good!
Type of surface tested on. Temp. Weather Conditions - Hot smooth surfaces, mostly highway and back winding roads.
I mounted the M1's on my CBR knowing that the bike was heavy and didn't know what to expect from the tires.
Stability etc. - The tire is very stable as long as they are warm.
Quick or slow to lean in or react to changes. - Leaning on this tire is great. Esp when they are new, fun fun fun.. Suprisingly, the tires handled very well!
The only things I found that I didn't like in the tires was the fact that they have a tendency to get cold on the sides while the center is hot, and the fact that I roasted the rear tire in less than 2 months. I'm use to running the Dunlop 208's, and they warm all the way across, and I normally get over 3,000 miles out of them. I was coming around a U-turn on the M1's after doing some 60 miles on the highway, and the back end fished around the u-turn quickly because the sides were cold. Once warm though, not many tires are better for grip
Type of surface tested on. Temp. Weather Conditions: 90-95 degress Thunderhill raceway tires worked very well until the afternoon session they became a little greasy as my lap times increased. For the street canyon riding all temps the tires worked very well. The back was predictable when stepping out, the front was forgiving when mid corner braking

Quick or slow to lean in or react to changes.
Concrete, asphault, gravel (oops); 60-110; Rain, Sun
WOW, the grip on the tires transformed the bike. From take off to corners the flat-out stick! Excellent Stopping at all speeds.
Very Stable at high and low speeds.
Very easy to throw the bike around on these tires.
I can't stress enough on how much I enjoy these tires. Rumor has it that mileage is poor on them, but 1500 miles down and they look like they'll have another 1500+ left.
VIRGINIA YEAR ROUND RIDER
SPRING ONLY SO FAR DURING BREAK IN TIRES HEAT UP QUICK......THEY STICK WHEN MY DUNLOP 208 WOULD SPIN...AT FULL LEAN ITS LIKE THEY TALK TO YOU THATS FEED BACK FOR STREET TIRE....UNDER PRESSURE THEY STUCK WHEN NOT FULLY BROKEN IN ie...FLASHING LIGHTS AND YOU GOTTA GO.....
YOU CAN SLAM THIS TIRE IN A CURVE AND FEEL THE ROAD THE ENTIRE TIME
THROUGH TRAFFIC AT 15 SECOND MILES ROAD IMPERFECTIONS SEEN AND UNSEEN STILL LIVING
ITS NOT A RACE TIRE.....ITS A RACE TIRES STEP BROTHER.....I'LL TRY THE QUALIFIER NEXT TO COMPARE THEM....BUT SO FAR THIS IS THE BEST TIRE I HAVE HAD
Type of surface tested on: City streets - asphalt and concrete. Temp. Stinking hot - over 100 degrees F. Weather Conditions: Hot and breezy.
After getting them scuffed in a bit, the grip is outstanding. Taking corners at a "warm" pace, which was fairly entertaining on my old tires was boring. Even after picking up the pace a fair bit, the tires are unimpressed. I think my limits are too far below the bike, and the bike's limits are below the tires...
Very stable and secure - especially mid-corner, but also going straight.
I found that, initially they seemed much slower to turn in than my old tires, but then found that the shop only had 25psi in the front and 28 in the back. After inflating to 36psi front and 38psi back, they were much better - but still a touch slower on turn-in than my previous tires.
So far I am thrilled with the M1's. At normal speeds they give me a HUGE safety margin. At higher speeds they give more grip, stability, and confidence. I wonder how long they'll last...
