Michelin Pilot Power Review

  • Tire: Pilot Power
  • Name: Sean Buchan
  • Bike: 2004 Honda CBR 600RR

Surface

Type of surface tested on.: Highway Temp.: High 90's Weather Conditions: sunny

Grip

Great grip and very sticky. I ran race tires that were not DOT approved before these, and the Pilot's handled just as good as the race tires.

Stability

These tires want to lean.

Handling

Michelin Pilot Power's are quick to lean and will lean as far as you want them too. You can drag knee with these just like race tires will. The BEST DOT approved tires I have ever rode with.

Comments

My buddy works at a Honda Dealership and recommended these tires to me. He hooked me up on the price, but I would have been more than happy to pay the price for them. Anyone who rides a sportbike should get 2 sets of these, that way you won't have to wait once you wear the first one's out. Not that they wear quickly or anything, but you will never want to get off your bie. Go and get some TODAY!!

Surface

Type of surface tested on. Street Temp. Moderate Riding Weather Conditions Wet and DRY.

Grip

Great side lean

Stability

Above average.

Handling

Quick to lean in or react to changes.

Comments

These tires were no good. I burned them up quick. The side rubber held great through the turns (although no better than the old Sports). The Powers are too soft in the centers and wore out quick. I would not recommend this tire. I've used Michelins for over 6 years, and now I'm changing.

Surface

Type of surface tested on.Michigan roads. Temp.50-75. Weather Conditions cool to moderatly warm.

Grip

Amazing. I just switched from junk dunlops, and these things hook. Even on my first ride, they felt good(unlike the d208s). Break-in went quickly.

Stability

They don't seem to need much warm up. The bike always feels planted now, very confidence inspiring.

Handling

Turn-in is fast, and cornering is precise. You just point it where you want to go, and that's where it goes. It will lean as far as you want it to and still feel great.

Comments

I think I'm in love.

Surface

On street only and a few gravel roads not by choice.

Grip

Love the grip never had any issues with traction. Great lean angels as well with these.

Stability

Excellent and very responsive for the street.

Handling

Everything is smooth and right on. No surprises.

Comments

Only had a few times in very light rain so not sure about riding in the rain. For dry conditions I love them. I've gotten great miles out of them as well. I will continue buying these no need to change. 3000+ miles and going.

Grip

I have been riding on Dunlop D208s until this last tire change when I decided to try the Pilot Powers. I was surprised that from mile 0 they felt sold and grip was excellent. After a hundred miles of break in and now 1K miles of use the tires have performed well and the R1 seems to handle better during turn in and under heavy braking. Now to see how long they will last; I pushed the D208s beyond 3000 miles and never felt a loss of grip, I expect that the Pilot Powers will do the same.

Stability

Stability etc.The Pilot Powers seem to be very stable in the warm temperatures, requiring very little warm up. I did manage to break the rear loose on several corners; I think that was from trying to throttle up too hard to early.

Handling

Quick or slow to lean in or react to changes. These tires seem to inspire the rider to greater lean angles; they are solid on hard breaking and transition well to power when the bike is exiting corners. Feedback to the rider is good. Traction is excellent in dry conditions. I have not yet rode on them in wet conditions, but I would assume they will grip well at legal speeds.

Comments

For street riding, I dont think any of the sport bike tires manufactured today by any of the major tire companies is a bad choice. The Pilot Powers are a good choice for quick warm up and grip. Longevity under hard riding conditions; we will just have to see. But so far I am impressed by their performance.

Surface

I've ridden these tires in all kinds of weather conditions now. Thunderstorms with gully washing rains at 60-80 mph never had an issue with loosing traction never hyrdoplanned either. Just like any tire I'm aware of gravel on pavement bikes don't like it period.

Grip

Excellent never have they let me down. Love them and see no need to buy anything else. Also I have gotten excellent tire life out of these tires as well as the other post has mentioned.

Stability

Can lean very hard into corners with these tires no chicken marks on them. Stick like crazy once tires have warmed up and they warm up very easy.

Handling

Excellent for a street use and Rainy Track conditions
